Today we are heading towards the beautiful ancient town of Kullu district called Naggar, Himachal Pradesh. The town was once the capital of the Kullu Kingdom, until Raja Jagat Singh moved the capital to Sultanpur in 1460 AD. Naggar was the capital of the Kullu Raja's for about 1400 years.
We visited the Kullu Monastery - Dhakpo Shedrupling Monastery, situated in the left bank road towards Naggar and treated ourselves to a delicious plate of Laphing, right outside the Monastery.
Laphing - A traditional Tibetan cuisine, It's a spicy, cold plain flour noodles preparation. We just love it 😍, and keep a lookout for places to have a yummy dose of this beauty.
Luckily we found this person who sits outside the Monastery and serves delicious plates of Laphing to savour your taste buds. Do give it a try when you are around Manali and I can bet you will not regret it.
The Dhakpo Shedrupling Monastery, systemized the great pioneers of Buddha Dharma”, The great Tsong_Khapa presented scholar, Je-Lodoe Tenpa Pel Sangpo a Dharma book titled “Greater Graded Path to Enlightenment” and instructed him to establish Dharma Institutes along the Dagpo region. The precious Dharma flourish and founded the monastery. he was the sixth succession among the seven linkage of Manjushri origin. He took hold of the power of Golden throne of second Buddha Tsong Khapa. The monastery is well known for strict discipline and quality monastic education. There are fifteen levels of classes. Many learned scholars and Gaden Throne holder emerged from this monastery.

We then visited the Naggar Castle - The Castle once home to the Kullu Raja's, was converted into a luxury boutique hotel in 1978. This ancient building was handed over to HPTDC to run as a heritage hotel. This medieval Castle was built by Raja Sidh Singh of Kullu around 1460 A.D. The hotel overlooks the Kullu Valley and apart from the spectacular view and superb location this has a flavour of authentic western Himalayan architecture - Kathkuni Architecture. Here, a gallery houses the paintings of the famous Russian artist Nicholas Roerich.
