Oh…and the best snorkelling is going left from the jetty. That where I filmed most of the video. Go really early (6-7:00am) for turtles :-) And thank you for the compliment!

Hi 👋 It was filmed near the jetty of the Makadi Grand. Some turning left from the jetty heading towards Sunwing, and some turning right. There is lots to see all the way along the reef and it can be different every day.

Hi…it was filmed in May. I have not visited in winter but know it is windy and that makes the water choppy. I have visited in late October and the water is lovely and warm. We did have that particularly calm day on this video which was amazing - no movement in the water at all. Does that help? Regards, Kirk & Bear.

Hi and thanks for the questions. There are dangerous sharks in the Red Sea and there are cases of attacks (search for shark attack Hurghada) but they are very rare. This video was made on the house reef in Makadi Bay and so we were very close to shore and carry no protection. There are boats and other people around so this is usually a deterrent to any sharks that come into the shallow water, but it is can happen. We have snorkelled in the very early morning to see turtles and we were very much alone - and saw the Whale Shark. In open water I assume divers would carry some protection but I don’t know for sure. The water is always clear and we have been in March, April, May and October. If it is windy a lot of small bubbles are mixed into the water which can reduce visibility, but this can be any time of year. I believe the snorkelling is good in all resorts, but not all hotels or areas have a House Reef, which means you have snorkelling available without taking a boat to a reef and we like this as we can enjoy the sea life every day, but there are some fabulous reefs accessible by boat if you want to do this. We haven’t been to other areas for snorkelling (we have been to the valley of the kings and other historic sites) as Sharm was closed to British tourists for a few years, but others tell me they are excellent. @@juarezm.6737 Flights from the UK to Sharm stopped for about 4 years after a Russian plane was bombed in 2015. Its open to I’m tourists now though - since 2019, but then travel was hard due to the pandemic. Our first trip out of the uk was to Hurghada last year when I recorded this video. We’ll visit Sharm at some point though :-)

@@juarezm.6737 Lots of hotels have a house reef - it usually says in the hotel details. Many of the Makadi Bay hotels have direct access for snorkelling along the shore line in the Makadi Bay. As we haven’t been to other resorts I can’t say about these other ones, but we stayed in Hurghada town once and had to take a boat for snorkelling so since then we have preferred something with a house reef just so we can spend lots of time in the water and film when the conditions are good. If the sea is choppy it is harder to film, but still excellent for seeing the fish. One day it was so still I shot most of the video you watched and it was amazing - we were in the water for about 3 hours.

Hi…we stayed at the Makadi Palace and have stayed at the Makadi Grand, but many of the hotels nearby have access to the same stretch of reef so you can get the same view either by walking to the jetty or swimming round. Check Maps - you will be near the hotels we have stayed at, so should be fine. The only thing that changed recently was they closed access going left (away from the hotels around the bay to the North) from the Makadi Jetty. This may be because of the shark attacks. Our most recent snorkelling videos from this year were all taken with this restriction in place, so maybe check those out. After 9-10:00am, once boats have started operating, then I think any sharks are deterred, but one never knows for sure. We have not seen any dangerous ones, however had a fright as you saw in the video. I hope you enjoy your trip! The reef is beautiful and we saw lots of amazing marine life.

Hi, and thanks for watching. I use a GoPro 10 in a super suit mounted onto an El Grande pole. Seems to work well for me :-) Filmed in 4k at 25fps with bitrate set to high for maximum image quality. Does that help?

Hello, and thank you for watching. It is ok to swim, and you are asked to use reef-safe sun screen to help avoid pollution. Touching or standing on the coral or touching the fish is very harmful though. Most people are very considerate about it, although I understand your concern - it is a delicate and valuable ecosystem.

Coral reef are not like glass that they are fragile. They can regenerate and tolerate stress. Actually intermediate stress is good for the ecosystem because it will encourage resilience and increase the biodiversity.

Hello, and thanks for watching. When we landed at Hurghada Airport the transfer to our hotel at Makadi Bay took 30-40 minutes, so not very far away.

Hi…yes…it was the House Reef at the Makadi Palace / Grand Makadi. It is also accessible from the Sunwing Waterworld. All hotels are in ther Makadi Bay. Does that help? We recommend it! K&B

What camara did you use, please and was you snorkeling or scuba diving. Its amazing quality, btw. I go soma bay in September, I am not an expert snorkeling and a little worried about the stingrays and lion fish. Do you find that they do not bother you 😉
