A great finish to the season, and with almost 900 views in less than 24 hours I'm looking forward to what you'll come up with as we're all sweltering through mosquito season. The buildup to The Black Wall, especially that tunnel and its entrance, psyched me up to see a slope resembling the south face of Everest. Challenging, true enough, but no skeletons, damaged ski equipment dumps, nor graveyards. Would love to see you do that slope on a really good snow day and break your kph record. Thanks for all the great videos, stay in shape, and hope to see you next season.

Hi Barry, well I have to say that this run really scares me, it needs total respect and I don't think I'll be breaking any speed records there, at least voluntarily. It starts extremely steep, goes very narrow then steep again with a sharp left at the bottom. I have no idea where I could slow down and I'm barely preventing myself going into freefall. Most people I've seen venture into the off-piste section to the right, where it's much easier to control. In fact, I would say this is the first video on KZfaq that stays on-piste from top to bottom. It's a new run, supposed to open earlier in the season but due to weather it opened only a few weeks ago (end of season). I have other videos of this run that I'll release later, I was the first down when it was groomed and hard, then went down again only to have a scary "free-fall" crash where I was stopped by the nets and the previous day when it wasn't groomed. The sign at the tunnel entrance says "Expert Skiers Only" and "Point of no return". Well, as this video reached 1000 views in the first 24 hours I'll have to prepare my next one. See you soon...

@@leej5842 Hi Lee, thanks for your comment and as you have experienced it in real life, you know what you are talking about and I agree. I have watched your video and can relate to the path you took. In this video the conditions ended up being good and I had been down a few times so knew what to expect. The telemetry data is not so accurate as the slope (grade) is an averaged percent. I made another video with real (not averaged) degrees here kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jLagirqd2Jy-hKM.html and it went to 51°. I also spoke to a cable car operator who mentioned they measured 48° during the summer so it could very well be steeper than the advertised 46°. In that video I slipped but managed to recover. However, the next time down I wasn't so lucky and crashed, fortunately into nets but those nets weren't there the first time down. You can see the crash here kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hNCceq9l39bZiGQ.html where I went into freefall, it all happened so quickly, no chance to recover. I really hope the resort have done their due dilligence and risk management to prevent serious injuries (nets need to be in the right places on time) as from my research, it is the world's steepest groomed black so under icy conditions will be one of the most dangerous pistes not only in the Alps but in the world. You can see here www.skibum.net/do-it-up/comparing-steepness-of-ski-trails/ that only Jackson Hole (which is practically a cliff) and not groomed exceeds it (in North America).

Hopefully I can do it this season when I visit Portes du Soleil but that one is off-piste whereas the Black Wall is a groomed piste...

@@ChasingSnow Nope it is not a hors-piste, it is shaped by the skiers as they go while it is groomed every now and then !!! I have been doing this one repeatedly during the day as it was the one that had most fun technically to me…wish you can actually go though the snow might be pretty heavy now (slushy) as the temperatures went a bit high lately…I hope it will snow enough again…starting today !😉

Really very cool piste! ⛷👍 Looks like snow conditions are much better in this run than in another video.

Yes, that was my last run of the season in the afternoon so the snow was much easier to ski on. The morning was not so easy.
@Puzzoozoo

Yay, instead of a controlled slide you finally skied it, *and* you got past the netting where you crashed. Compared to last time it didn't look as icy, and had a fresh thick dusting of snow. Anyway, well done. n time in the future if I'm not to old and at level 9 in skill by then, I might try it myself, at the very least I'll go to that tunnel entrance on the red run for a selfie.
@ChasingSnow
@ChasingSnow Жыл бұрын
Once the snow softened up, it was much easier. If you go through the tunnel, you can't go back and have to commit but the off-piste section to the right is less steep.
@Puzzoozoo
@Puzzoozoo Жыл бұрын
@@ChasingSnow Yeah, as you commented below, the entrance to the tunnel is the point of no return. As for going off piste to the right for the wall, it'd be a cop out in my mind. If I was skied enough i.e., level 9 and could do ordinary black runs comfortably, scary or not, I'd do it on piste, then I could truthfully say even if it was just a once and done that I've skied The Black Wall.
@ChasingSnow

@@Puzzoozoo Well, my advice would be just to make sure the snow is good and grippy.

Hi Jaka, thank you for your nice comment. Yes, ski season in Europe ends very soon, only one week left for practically most resorts to close (except the all season ones). The image of the bridge is at Glacier 3000, Peak Walk, Video Link kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n56iga5y0s6tg3k.html. Damn thats a lot. I once tried an alternative by connecting my gopro (on chest mount) with a cable to a powerbank in the jacket's chest pocket. Is not ideal for rainy/snowy weather though haha
