We'll be taking a trip in the French speaking part of Switzerland today along the lake of Geneva.
I ended the recording in Bussigny due to the weather. I was expecting the snow we see at departure to be more present along our route, but a few stations down the line it was just raining. Nevertheless, I kept recording because of the construction works along the way - which show the line in a unique condition.
There is construction work at the stations of Montreaux, Cully (1 track missing) & Renens. Between Lausanne and Renens a rail overpass is under construction and 2 of the 4 tracks have been completely removed for their renewal. You also might notice the cable channels along most of the line are also being renewed.
For those who don't like the weather, the complete trip from St-Triphon to Basel is coming with sunny weather.
I hope you enjoyed the video. If you'd like to donate, please click the following link. Donations will be used for equipment and software in order to bring you higher quality videos. www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr... Thanks for watching and have a great day!

Thanks for filming and uploading this. It brought back many memories of my years in Vevey.... and how cold and wet it was all winter long! I didn't know my wife could swear until then... she was not a fan of the grey (I, being Scottish, found it pleasant).

Many thanks. Greatly appreciate all your work. It was fascinating to see colour slowly fade in as you left the snow. It reminded me of something you may not be aged enough to remember: the introduction of colour TV in Australia, March 1975, when the ABC's Auntie Jack show began in b&w and slowly bled in the colour.

As always, great video! I wonder what kind of passenger car is the one "parked" (4:41) on what appears to be an industrial building (Right hand side, almost in line with the speed boards). May be an old ASD car? At any rate -- and odd place to find a railway car!

Thanks for sharing this - the Swiss flavour comes through regardless of the weather - interesting to see where the system upgades are at right now, the complex between Lausanne and Renens has been a building site for what feels like a decade - also good to see references to Denges and Sébeillon, we don't see those as much as, for instance, RBL or Muttenz - look forward to you filling in some of those gaps - meanwhile, would be interesting to know what grade of fuel was being delivered via this route, as you were clearly hauling empties in this direction - anyway, thanks again \m/
@lorirocks777

It's usually either Diesel or Petrol - I'm not sure about the octane level though.
@officialmcdeath
@officialmcdeath Жыл бұрын
@@lorirocks777 intriguing, thanks - this might be an irregular spot load, depending on the current price - reason I suggest that is that Collombey tank farm, just across the river, has a pipeline direct from Genoa, so anything your train might have delivered would probably be above and beyond the normal base load \m/

So from just before Villeneuve (around11:00) we switch to ETCS signalling? I presume that's intended to be gradually introduced for the whole route? (Probably when the upgrade works are completed?)
@lorirocks777
@lorirocks777 Жыл бұрын
Maybe that was the plan, but at the moment there doesn't seem to be any more plans for ETCS Level 2 lines in Switzerland. For the high cost, it doesn't have many advantages.
@dellacapaolo
@dellacapaolo Жыл бұрын
Is a big disadvantage. The capacity of the line drops with the use of ETCS L2. Especially for freight trains.

@@LB767 the safety space is much bigger. With a freight train you have to slow down a lot to red signals or for lower speed limits.

That was a well orchestrated run with a clear route to the entry to Lausanne then only one full stop for the rest of the route. Is the lake level controlled to maintain a minimum change throughout the year? Was this train destined for the refineries on the North Sea coast, Hamburg, Rotterdam, Antwerp, Le Havre, or just a short run to Cornaux?
