Rathmines is an affluent suburb of Dublin City. It is situated south of the city but is in walking distance (3km) of the centre making it a desirable location to live. The housing consists of many period homes and some very expensive and exclusive streets. Many of these period homes, particularly near the main street, were sub divided after the 1930's and now contain small studio flats giving Rathmines the nickname of "Flatland". Property values have increased greatly in Rathmines along with it's desirability and in recent times it has even been referred to as the "Belgravia of Dublin".
Two of the most expensive streets to buy house in Ireland are located here. These are Temple Gardens and Cowper Road. A house in Temple Gardens recently sold for nearly €6 million. Rathmines Road Lower is lined with many small and independent shops, cafes and restaurants as well as the Swan Shopping Centre.
The walk begins at the junction of Grosvenor Road and Rathgar Road and continues along Rathmines Road Lower and is followed by a coffee at Ernesto's Coffee and Artisan Foods.

Welcome to Ambient Ireland with Peter.
Ireland is an amazing country that is full of history, culture and friendly people. Join me on my travels as I explore and document my hometown of Dublin City and the rest of Ireland. Dublin City is a bustling place that is famous for it's cozy pubs, Georgian architecture, intriguing history and of course creamy pints of Guinness. My walking and driving tours are mostly in 4K UHD and are carefully edited to ensure the highest quality possible. If you are planning to visit Ireland or are curious about what street life is like here what better way to discover The Emerald Isle than through a 4K Walking or Driving Tour from the comfort of your chair.
So hit subscribe and follow me as i grab my camera and gimbal and head out to explore what Ireland has to offer.
