We have wanted to organize our lighter cargo (jackets, blankets, sleeping pads, sleeping bags, gloves, and miscellaneous soft cargo) for quite some time now. After researching the 4Runner Attics from Blue Ridge Overland Gear and Raingler Nets, we decided to see what it would take to make our own.
For excellent install information (and a great cargo attic), check out this video from Raingler Nets:
• 2010 - Newer Toyota 4R...
...and here is a good video explaining how to make your own BOX KNOTs for this kind of net:
• How to tie the box knot
Here is the gear that we used in this video:
"Blackish Green" Paracord: amzn.to/3mVoxVu
"Oil Slick" Paracord: amzn.to/3n5YOcN
25 Feet of 1/4" Elastic Cord: amzn.to/2WZ9iQU
Carabiner and Keychain Cables: amzn.to/3pAbdHN
Dog River Stainless Steel Tie Downs: amzn.to/380VKe3
1/4"-20 by 1/2" Pan Head SS Screws: amzn.to/2WZL9tw
We also used a 1/4"-20 hand tap to create threads for the screws similar to this tap: amzn.to/3n407Jr
All video was shot on an iPhone 11 Pro.
All editing was done on Final Cut Pro.

Thanks! I just wrapped up the second version of it, but I need to do some more tweaks before I make another video on it.

Wish I would have seen this before I ordered my raingler nets. The raingler attic is nice but it took 4 months from date of order.

Oh wow!!! I didn't realize it took so long. Then again - everything in 2020 seems to be taking longer. Yeah, I built this in about 2 hours (figuring it out as I went). I'm going to redo it and make another video for version 2 soon.

You get a rear view mirror cam. Then you wont have to worry about blocking eyesight. Also, records while driving of drivers behind you and parking incase of a hit and run.

That's definitely an option, but I still prefer to have my visibility unhindered.

Great topic ! Gear organization is probably my biggest problem right now. The middle points are a home run ! Great video. As always, you've got my sub. I've clicked all the right buttons to keep up on new content. Cheers!

We really appreciate the support! Whether you buy one or make your own, this little organizer is a game changer for all those things lying loose in the back!

@@TrailorSailYT Totally agree that it is a game changer. I have one in my 4Runner but like you said, it sits forward over the rear seats and does not come back far enough. Since I've, removed the back seats, I'm ok with it being positioned forward but I really want it to cover the back cargo area. So, I'm going to do an expansion project following your video. The idea is to get coverage over the very back of the rig like you do. Awesome video !! Perfect solution for me. Thanks!

Nice video. Regarding the two mounting points center front and the one at the rear center near the hatch, did you pull out three of those plastic round head liner plugs, then hand tap 1/4-20 the existing holes that remained?

Right now we have a backlog of videos that we are making. So, for now, we will need to pass. Thank you, though!

2:00 This never made sense to me. You are putting after-market, foreign objects in the path of an airbag. This could seriously impair the deployment of a safety feature and potentially injure a passenger sitting its path. I see this a lot with people routing GPS/Camera power cables along the the A-pillar, impeding the airbags there.
