I bought a 2010 cobalt at the auction a few years ago it was listed as a transmission problem. When I drove it to my shop there was a noticeable shutter that most people would think was a torque converter. I put on the lift and noticed a new torque converter, axle seals, case gasket and a new Tcm so I thought man it looks like it was rebuilt. There were no codes so when I drove the car I seen that the converter wasn’t slipping so I looked at the fuel trims and noticed it was running lean when it did the shutter. I found the mass air sensor was dirty, air filter was packed with dirt. Put a new air filter in and cleaned mass air and problem fixed. That customer spent thousands of dollars on a rebuild and tcm but it needed a 10 dollar air filter and clean the mass air. Lots of customers don’t want to pay for diagnostic fees but when you bring your car to a quality shop like mine who can properly diagnose your car yeah ur paying for a diagnostic but I will save you money by fixing the problem not guessing or throwing parts at it.

I have this transmission, you cannot see the torque converter by just having it on a lift.
@stevemccauley5734 Жыл бұрын
@@barryaiello3127 you are correct sir. You have to pull the starter just to get to the torque converter bolts because there is no inspection plate. So I call BS on his comment.

How are you dear. I have a 2008 Cobalt with a 2.2 engine and an automatic transmission. There is a problem: when I start driving the car, the transmission gear becomes hard shift after driving for 5 minutes. and then When I turn off the car and restart it and drive it again, the transmission becomes normal and smooth shift. But after continuing to drive the car for 10 minutes, the transmission returns to becoming hard shift , knowing that there is a code p1811( maximum adapt and long shift). what do you think about this problem?

When you take these apart, what usually goes bad? The fluid valves cracking and not enough pressure? Do clutches really get worn out in the every day transmission? I got a 4T45E and its shifting hard, i almost think the inside will look brand new and its just a cracked valve line or a melted solenoid. Then again I dont know much about this stuff, just seems to be the overall theme

Hello Hiram : I am very pleased to see this type of videos, great job ! I am curious to know if you have one on a GM Oldsmobile 88 Royale with a 4T60E transaxle, recently the transmission cooler was leaking fluid into the radiator ,around the pressure line hook up to the cooler on the radiator side where there was a flat rubber washer that was split in the middle, causing a lost of fluid and overheating of the tranny.I replaced the radiator.I was advised to flush the converter as well as replaced filter and fluid. When flushing the tc, I ran out of dextron oil and added some mercom Ford type that I had, when I installed the filter I couldn't get the old O ring sleeve that holds the filter in place against the valve body, so I installed the aftermarket filter leaving the original gm bushing or O ring in there so as not to damaged the bore trying to pull it out . I don't think it was a perfect fit.Now I have to wait for the tranny to warm for about 20 minutes or so, before it goes into gear, Sometimes if the car sits on a rolling hill and I let it rolled back in reverse it would engage into reverse and forward,with no problems, Once is warm the vehicle runs great it shifts fine, But after is sitting for hours it would do the same. I am seeking some advise if you have the time, Also the throttle body positioner sensor is disconnected now because is acting up reving to high, Don't know if it should have a tab where it connects to the throttle plate shaft , I don't see it there. Called GM but is discontinued. Why is it not priming or loosing pressure, Thanks for you help and input Any insight on this issue would be very much appreciated .Keep up the good work, Reinaldo.

Great video! I have a 4T45e in my 2006 Chevy Malibu 2.2L which won't shift into 4th gear. It has 154,000 miles on it. The fluid color looks and feels good, but it's obviously not new. It doesn't smell burnt and the level is good. I bought this car at an auction. From what I have seen online, the no-shift condition is likely caused by a failed 3-4 shift solenoid. I plan to replace it myself, maybe next week, but I don't have a garage or a vehicle lift, only a hydraulic floor jack and jack stands. Is the takedown exactly like the 4T40e? What else should I replace while I'm in there? I have another car to drive and will decide later which one to sell and which one to keep. Also, is it possible to do the job without removing the transmission? I sure wish that I knew what you know about transmissions.

How did you install the torque converter
@MattsRageFitGarage8 жыл бұрын
Hey, got a few questions for you. First off, I was given an 01 Saturn L200 from a family member because the transmission slips in all gears very badly. It has the 4T40-E transmission in it. When it was first purchased, it worked fine, then it started slipping in all gears, (trans pan leaks fluid from the gasket) it was sent to a shop and I'm assuming they just topped off the fluid and it worked perfectly fine for a good while, then started slipping very badly again in all gears, and they drove it this way for about 20,000 miles.(idiot niece) Now, if it were really the clutches slipping that badly, how in the heck would it last that long? could this transmission just really be low on fluid and or have solenoid problems at the same time? When I say this thing slipped badly, I mean it was damn near redline to get it to take off in all gears, 1, 2, 3, R. But, when the shop did whatever they did to it, it worked perfect until I'm assuming the fluid level got low again. It doesn't leak fast, just very slow drips.
