That's so awesome that you're able to do the pilot group thing for Math with Confidence! I really think it should be no problem to combine them for grammar, especially if he already knows some of the grammar basics.

Thank you for sharing your picks 🙂. I've been homeschooling for 6 months & trying to figure out what to do for my upcoming 4th grader in the Fall. We are just starting AAR level 3. Thinking about IEW. My daughter also LOVES Science.

I'm so thankful my son is on track with Math with Confidence releases. It's been a godsend for him. We tried SO MANY math curriculums with my older daughter and it can be overwhelming. Love that program. We are also doing IEW + Fix It Grammar with my upcoming 4th grader. I'm pretty nervous- very reluctant writer. Hoping it's a good fit! Also using AAR + God's Design. You are making me feel more confident about my picks. Definitely following for the upcoming year!

Thank you for sharing your picks I LOVE to see what others are doing. It often inspires me. I have a 4th grader, too. We are also going with IEW. I didn't think my daughter would be a reluctant writer but she is and IEW gives her the steps which helps her not to be overwhelmed ( we started Bible Heroes). We are also doing "Fix it Grammar". I just started using Harcourt Family Learning, "Spelling Skills" and I like how it emphasizes phonics. So far, that is working and therefore we will stick with it for fourth grade. For reading, she will read aloud the McGuffey's Revised 4th Reader for skill building. Otherwise, I will assign some books for her to read and she will be allowed to read what she wants to as well. We will continue to discuss books and what we are reading. For Math, we are sticking with Easy Peasy Math level 4 (It has worked since level 1 so why fix what isn't broken?). We did take a month off to do multiplication facts that stick and that helped. We might do the same for division in 4th grade.

@@JoyfulNoiseLiving Thanks! We are having a really hard time finding a language arts program that we enjoy and is thorough so we are trying to decide what to do for the rest of our school year and for next school year (finishing 3rd grade now)

We are looking at Kate snow math for my youngest daughter!!! We love combining kids. We love all about reading!!! We love masterbooks science!!!

We actually like textbooks for science, starting around third or fourth grade. I've tried a few other things over the years, but that's what we all prefer. I use mostly living books for history, religion, other subjects like that, but we like science textbooks. We do have lots of science books and project books in the house that they use in their spare time.

Your son sounds so much like my 9 year old son and your daughter sounds like my 7th grader into nature. New to homeschool all the curriculum choices are very overwhelming!

Awww! I'm glad they sound similar :) I know, there are so many choices these days. It's only increased with the availability of digital/pdf resources. It may be good for you to start with a box or all in one curriculum, and then over the next year look around a little bit as you go. I try to remember that all curriculum is GOOD. There is no perfect curriculum out there, and they all have something to offer that's good. :)

I’m prepping for our 2nd year of homeschooling, and I also have a 2nd and 4th grader. I love your videos, as we have similar tastes in curriculum. I’m considering trying IEW with him this year too! I really think he could benefit from copywork, and I’ve been looking into cottage press that you talked about for your 2nd grader and love what I see. Do you think it’d be too much to do cottage press and IEW?

Well, I don't plan on using IEW with my 2nd Grader, just my older two (4th and 6th Graders). I do think it would be too much to do both, but you could always loop it and do 2 days of cottage press and 2 days of IEW. There's no race, it's a marathon, but I have love having copy work for my kids these past several years.

my upcoming 3rd grader struggles with Math and I have been thinking of keeping her "behind" in Math in order to use Math With Confidence. She is very visual and still struggles with math facts.hmmmm waiting to see what 2nd grade looks like!

Right Start Math tutorial books with the card games could be really helpful. We started out third grade playing math card games and using their abacus. Within a couple weeks her math fact accuracy, fluency, and number sense had dramatically increased.

I'm planning long term and am trying to make decisions on math... We're currently using MWC 1 and plan to use Level 2 in the spring. Question, do the lessons after Level 2 lessen in teacher involvement? Does it allow for more independent learning? My 3rd grader can basically do math independently with Math Mammoth (watches a video lesson and checks his own work). MM does not work with my younger student so I'm hoping MWC builds those independent learning skills. Thanks :)

GREAT question! With MWC, I found that level 3 and 4 still has mom leading the lesson, but it does not take a lot of time. I do a game, explain a few practice problems, and then they do two pages of independent work. So, about 10 minutes with mom, 10-20 minutes on their own (depending on the kid and the lesson topic).

I wish I could get her 3rd grade math! Were using it for my Kindergartener this year. Does your 4th grader have his math facts down at this point?

I’m sorry 3rd Grade math isn’t ready 😢 My 4th grader is doing really well!! Kate Snow’s tips have helped him so much, and the games… you can get all those in Kate’s Math Facts that stick 😁
