(Active duty 1978 - 80 Korea and Fort Polk) Those caps go back to General Ridgway in the Korean War. (we spelled it with an "e" as in Ridge). The "Ridgeway", as we called them, is the origin of the "patrol cap" versus the (base)ball-cap, but "blocked" (made stiff). We wore them as upperclassmen in the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M. They look a lot sharper than those low-bidder ball-caps the Army gave us. The Corps wears the traditional uniform of the Army during WWII. At 1:34 you can see the extremely dark-green shirt and light-gray pants with a pinkish hue; we called those "midnight and pinks". At 1:05 you can see the man with a 2nd Infantry Division "combat" patch (worn on right shoulder). This means he was in the Korean War in 1950 - 1953 (1950 - 51 was the coldest winter in a half-century there) and then to Graf! (That doesn't sound right; surely he rotated to a stateside unit...) Perhaps he served with 2nd ID in Europe during WWII. Either way, I'd like to hear that story.
