The really good song that begins at 3:27 does not come up under that artist/title; instead I get "Moral Code-First Snow" (which is not bad!) or something like that. Is there another with that exact artist/title?

The Soviet Union was the greatest experiment of human kind. Bounded with internationalist spirit, it was a hope for the opressed, weak against the powerful opressor. Whatever it may have degenerated into later, people will be always attracted towards Soviet Union for what it did for humanity at one point. That's why even after not living near Soviet Union, you may feel nostalgic about it. It's not connected with us racially, nationally... But humanly.

"for what it did for humanity at one point." You mean death camps, unlawful executions, coming *this* close to nuclear war, suppression of any thoughts and actions that didn't fit with the Communist agenda, etc? Yeah, most people are glad that it died when it did. Most would also have prefered that curse of a country to have never happened at all.

well, as a Russian (living in Russia too) who studied its history since school years and now studying a political sciences in University, i can say, that you`re deadly wrong. And i`m sorry to say that, because your words sound sad and frustrated - and that`s the way i feel about Soviet Union. But the difference between the one who know History of Russia, born in Russia and living in Russia - one who understand this country really well and the one who is not - is in idealizing USSR. Soviet experience feels so fantastic, frustrated, hopless now and hopeful back then at the same time for both sides - me and you. But knowing that even the "fact", that first Bolsheviks wanted best for the workers/discriminated ones is just the myth - ruins the hole image of Soviet system, which in fact was brutal, founded on lie and dogmatism. My grand-grandfather was fighting in WWI against Austro-Hungary till he was captured by Austrians and send to the prisoner camp. But after he escaped and reached and crossed the front-line. Soon after that Russia got out WWI and the Russian civil war began. He joined the Workers-Peasant Red Army and fought against White army and other forces. But because bolsheviks were not recognizing international law-principes they practice denunciation system - which is obviously insn`t fair, he was pursued by bolsheviks and again escaped, at that time - to the Northen Ural. Then his daughter - my grandmother and my grandfather met get married. They rafted on the Kama river, hided on the passenger ships, floated down to the Middle Ural, there they stopped, hoping they can`t be found there (because Civil War brought real madness in Russia). Soon they became wealthy peasants (kulaks) with hired labor. But when Stalin`s collectivisation started - they lost there house (which was turned to a village club by local authorities) and the farm. They were just lucky to escape prisoner camps (GULAG) and after that there wasn`t any really serious attention to them from the Soviet system (soon WWII broke out and my grandfather got to the war, and then country was build-up again from the ruins, and soon Stalin died and with that, more liberalisation came into public life), but that repressions says a lot about "Soviet dream". Yeah, most of the people praising as a "best" time of USSR - 70s-80s years, but if you look closely to the political and economic system of that time - you`ll understand, that already in Brezhnev`s era in started to collapse. That image of USSR is more like unfulfilled dream of the world there all people are equal and have same rights, because the real Soviet system was full of totalitarism, lie and uneffective methods of ruling the economy.

@@user-jp3wl4fg2h "Bolsheviks wanted best for the workers/discriminated ones is just the myth". You have no proof for this. Bolsheviks followed Marxism and later Lenins leadership. They were de facto defenders of workers rights. It seems you're the frustrated one because of what happened to your grandfather.
@user-jp3wl4fg2h
@user-jp3wl4fg2h 6 ай бұрын
@@iflycessnas4707 Well, you comment is actually the example of "regular man" thinking and how divided are people who actually studying and analysing history, and people who just pretend to do it. If you studied history of RSDRP-RKPB-VKP(b) closely, you will clearly understand, that bolsheviks really have there dystopian fantasies (and they shouldn`t be judged about there delusion, since back then there was no practical experience of socialist state and economy), but much more of that, they wanted power, and Lenin or Trotskiy were ones who were just obsessed with power - and that shaped there politics and how they got there power after de-facto collapse of the Russian Empire. This is very big topic to just say: "You have no proof" - you just manipulating: don`t say that in any decent discussion if you want to be respectful. And also, i strongly doubt, that you can reed my brain just like a book and conclude, that my view on the Soviet experience - it`s just my "frustration" - it`s just funny to hear. You know, sometimes to fully understand history of country - you just need to born in it, and Russia is no exception - real picture of Bolshevik`s motives comes from there inner circle letters, little known details, rare documents, that you can find only in State Archive of the Russian Federation (where obviously not that much people comes to study history, because you need to be really fanatic with that) and so on. And still, there some missing spaces on that picture, that can be only filled by knowing Russian mindset and people`s past stories about their ancestors. My conclusion of what i`ve studied my previous years: sadly, Bolshevik`s gain of power was enormous catastrophe for Russia, which, again, can be explored only by going deep down in details and all of that stuff. Almost all of our nowadays problems, except of geography and climate, which could simply not exist, are the consequences of Soviet brutal transformations. That`s what i`m really frustrated about - the lost opportunities to be close with Europe and competitive, but not hostile with USA. It feels for me like lost empire/super-power status of Great Britain - like Margaret Thatcher once said.

I smoked weed a few times in high school and it was interesting-weird. Somewhere in my 30’s i’ve discovered how magic weed can be. One year later, after smoking it daily, i was in hell. I’ve heard someone say that you can take almost anything, minus love and good food, and turn them into shit experiences. My compulsory irreverential use of weed turned abruptly and it’s perhaps a very rare situation, but i know several people who say that for them it’s a matter of losing its magic. Either way, it’s unfortunate. Use it wisely 🤘

The classical civilizations were a long way back for the medieval Europeans. These pictures from the USSR are visions of my childhood and I'm not even 50 years old. A lot of them remind me of the kind of architecture you saw in the 80s in America and can still find. In other words, its recent and we know about it and understand it. I wonder how much Europeans from the middle ages understood the Roman Empire when the only trace of it they might have seen is a vine covered ruin or Latin spoke in church?

Meer (MIR?) Zero is a great song at 11:44 timestamp. Very moving in a wistful longing kinda way. If anyone wants a real trip down memory lane look up Soviet Afghan war music specifically anything acoustic made to remember the war by those who fought there. It was very sad war music but also somehow defiant and triumphant in a way as well.

Probably. With images of typical suburban American houses, once bustling with life but now abandoned and decrepit. The once tidy lawns of Ivy League universities overtaken by weeds and their campuses now quiet, with busted out windows. Pictures of an Interstate falling apart, Amtrak trains still barely moving, NASA's facilities all worn out and rusty, the collapsed Arecibo telescope, or manufacturing plants operating at a tiny fraction of their once huge capacity. And the nostalgia would be about the times when summer movies became instant classics (the 1980s and 1990s), when it genuinely felt like whistleblowers and activists in the 2000s would bring about justice, when Facebook was just a startup and, for a few brief moments before the 2008 crisis it felt like things would change for the better, before they took a huge turn for the worse. Not much unlike this.

@@TheGPR101 I see your point, but I raise you another: If you live in a semi-rural area anywhere in the US, this is already a reality. There is massive land flight in the fly-overs, abandonment of industry in the rust belt, slowing capital investment in state universities and municipalities all throughout the country. I did an internship with a local health department, and their office furniture was taken from a 1960/70s Steelcase catalog. No nonsense, local agencies in small states are already there, suffocating under the burden of outdated and oversized infrastructure and waning populations. Has its perks though.

People, I can so rarely experience emotion. Usually, half of the people I meet online begin to hate me or make fun of me, if I just tell where I come from, I’ve gotten used to it for a long time. Here I saw a grain of something else. Thank you for this tear. I'll try to give you this in return. A small look from the inside. One of the reasons why I am writing this is because my pain vessel is filled to the brim and spills a little. Everything has its cause and effect. When you say that the USSR collapsed on its own or for economic reasons, you are dissembling by missing key historical facts. The word "WAR" has a meaning. Even if it is called cold. Even soft, even quiet, even wet. The losers in the war have the same destiny, there is usually little fun in it. One of my first conscious memories, as a child, I was sitting with my grandmother, watching TV, an orbital station called "PEACE" on the screen against the background of the clear azure sky. Which burns out with a candle in the atmosphere, losing pieces of the skin, before sinking into the ocean. My mother was an engineer for electrical lighting systems for spaceships, working on computers while they occupied an entire room, before everything went to hell. Now from the building of that institute there are bare concrete walls from which people, in order not to die of hunger, have long cut off even the supports for the cables. Throughout my life, I have seen history being rewritten right before my very eyes. For some reason, people who have never been here know better than us in all the details, about the Holodomor, repressions, the Gulag, the bloody dictator Stalin, who in the mass consciousness has long become = Hitler. At other times, these same people have no idea about the name of the first device launched into space and launched the space program of all mankind. Nor do they know the name of the first man to go into space. I am not talking about the fact that these are exclusively Russian merits (the fact is that more than 100 nationalities lived and worked in the Soviet Union). And I don't care which of the thousands of "-isms" you believe in today. But please. Keep at least part of the history unchanged, and do not offend the memory of people whose meaning of life was that humanity would fly higher and higher to the stars. Sorry for my English.
