It's an over the counter(or in many cases, truck stand/shack on the outskirts of the only county within an hour or twos driving range were its legal to purchase fireworks) IED, minus the shrapnel.

@@ryanbauer3680Well, some still have shrapnel. I had illegal firecrackers that were basically a baby grenade. I got pelted by the clay/ceramic and it left a massive bruise. It easily traveled 20 feet from where we threw it and hit me in the torso. Hurt like hell. Comment: more like 20 yards. I forgot how short feet are.

My very first job was working part time at a big fireworks store around New Year’s. You would not believe the amount of people who truly did not get why it was a bad idea to bring their lit cigarettes into the warehouse of gunpowder.

If it doesn't go off stand back and let it cool off. After 30 minutes or so, when you're sure it's safe, soak the dud in water for at least 24 hrs before disposing.

This guy is one of the best PSA experts for EMT's and the wider medical community ever (rn...ik times change, but he's our Charlie Champlain ad-mixed with some notes of George Carlin & Lewis Black rn...a primo combo), one that they never knew they even needed! (But they do!) So true, when I worked at a firework stand, I told people that once that firework is lit, if you want to keep all of your body parts attached, don’t put it over the launcher. Had a guy with a nice 3 inch hole in his hand after he decided to put his hand over a canister shell that was lit. He still comes by for more fireworks. Edit: Also make sure the firework is secure for when you launch it. Don’t have it like he is showing in the video here. Drill some screws into the sides of its base and attach the tube to a large piece of plywood. Then you can add more mortars as you purchase more fireworks yearly, and you have a stable base that will never fall over and a nice firework launching station. You do not want it falling over with a lit firework. That’s a nice fast way to be meeting someone like our friend (first responders) in the video here to talk about your stupidity. Edit number 2: For those of you who use cakes and not mortars (the boxes that are basically a show in a box, with one fuse that will light all the tubes in sequence), or fountains,(shoots up showers of sparks), remember concrete is your friends. That nice little casing around it has a decent chance of catching on fire after it is lit. Having it on concrete can save you a lot of trouble. Always have a hose our water bucket ready to put it out. If your launch locations is on grass, make sure to water the grass in the surrounding area before launching, wet grass = takes longer to burn= more time for you to fix your mistakes.

We had one fall over a couple years ago, luckily it went away from all of us but yea, nowadays we have a 2x10 that has the mortars drilled into it and is angled so they’ll fire away from us…. Also let’s us shoot off a couple at a time.

my parents would always keep a hose nearby when lighting fireworks and they always made sure to never throw those boxes directly in the trash when they were done, always giving them time to be done burning, sometimes spraying them down with the hose just in case

Ive seen neighbor igniting a fuse on a cake that was droped before, after few shots it kinda slumped over sending a barage inside 4th story apartments we lived in through open balconies where people were standing. Only minor damages and injuries but dude got to move asap. So another rule would be make sure your fireworks are undamaged and structurally sound!

That smoke turned into flames that reached the second story windows FAST. We called the fire department and filled up everything in our house that could hold water and dumped water on the flames until the firemen arrived. The flames were already melting the siding off the house, the fire was right next to a truck that would have caused serious damage if it had exploded, especially since it was only a small fence away from our vehicle, and the elderly neighbors were still inside the house. They couldn't hear us banging on the door without their hearing aids. The firemen said that if we hadn't kept controlling the fire with water then the house would have 100% burned down. Then this year after we moved my brother came upstairs and told me a tarp under a truck in the backyard caught fire and he put it out himself. Apparently the neighbor knocked on the door and was like "oh hey just wanted to let you know there's a fire in your backyard :)" AND LEFT A 14 YEAR OLD TO DEAL WITH IT. Needless to say I flipped out. If the truck would've caught fire and exploded he could've died. I had no idea anything happened until afterwards because my room is in the attic. I never know whats happening since my room is on the highest level the house. I told my brother I was proud of him but to never do that again because it wasnt worth risking his life. The truck was in our very large yard. If it exploded it wouldn't have caused too much damage all the way back there. And if it had only caught fire I could have just called the fire department if he got me first. Anyways, I hate fireworks not handled by professionals and I have anxiety each 4th because of fires 😂

@@lynnz7501if there is fires all the time, then people should be waiting until a night it rains, so a fire don't start because they shot fireworks, then again some people here still shot them in a heat wave in hundred degree weather after it hadn't rained for a month

I was around six years old and my firework wasn't launching. I did every conceivable thing wrong, including grabbing the burning-but-not-firing explody thing and running towards my family with it weeping about how my firework broke. It did burn out without launching, but the screams of a whole neighborhood as little EXPLOSIONDEATH ran towards them crying made me very passionate about reading safety warnings whenever I encountered them since then.

It's always interesting listening to the police scanner on the 4th. You hear all kinds of calls, but the one I remember best was an ambulance call for a hand injury. We figured somebody must've decided it was a good idea to hold the fire works. About ten minutes later, we hear the ambulance request assistance from the fire department, followed by, "Be advised, patient has stapled their hand to a fence."
