As a drummer and a jeff fan i really don't understand how anyone can criticize this. This guy is putting a spin on a great groove to make it his own, which he has mastered. If Jeff Pocaro had not put his own spin on the Purdy shuffle, then there would be no Rosanna shuffle. Reinventing great grooves is how new ones are created.

You said exactly what I've been trying to articulate. This dude is just giving us drummers some ear treat and all good muso's can separate flaring up on KZfaq to grooving on a record and always knowing when to do so.

I’ve heard a LOT of versions of the Rosanna shuffle... One thing that caught my eye... THIS GUY DID A F***ing POLYRYTHMIC PATERN incorporated with the Rosanna Shuffle on the first instrumental!! It’s not the Rosanna shuffle... Its the POLYRYTHMIC shuffle! AMAZING!

Totally true. And easily the best version of Rosanna on KZfaq even if didn't flare up wits fills. He is world class. Most drummers could not play what this guy is playing.

It’s incredibly refreshing to see a drummer play such a classic groove but feel comfortable enough to put their own touch on it and not play it exactly as Jeff did, hit for hit. Well done buddy. This is awesome.
@theaterdreamer5 жыл бұрын
Rossy_P maybe he can’t play it the way Jeff did, hit for hit. There’s a reason why so many have tried, and failed.

Exactly how I thought of it. He help down the Jeff Groove perfectly and through in some real tasty tech stuff!

@@theaterdreamer. Of course if can. He's just adding to it. You can hear that he's grooving just like Jeff. He's adding to it because it's not a studio track. Jeff was always smart to keep simple and not over play hence why he was hired so much. Of course this guy could just sit back and play it like Jeff did but he's just adding some flare!

After reading some of the comments on here prompted me to chime on this young man's performance. Everything he added to the song was amazingly tasteful. His groove was infectious. Pocket for days. The sound of his drums was on point. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. As I stated earlier this young man is smoking. I believe most who gave somewhat of a negative comment probably couldn't carry this young man's stick bag. lol!!

@@briangilbert5595. You said exactly what I've tried to say in about 5 comments on this video. 👍 You just articulated and mailed the point much better and I couldn't agree with you more. He's clearly a fantastic drummer and can hold a solid groove. Any good musician knows when to be busy and when not. This is KZfaq. As drummers it's exciting to hear people flare up but they know there not going to do that on a record as they are playing for the song. This guy is playing for drummers and showcasing his skills. What drummer would ever do a clinic for drummers and just groove a shuffle. No, groove is for the song. A+ to this guy as it's like a clinic and he has skills that could only take years of practice to get tight. His fill leading into the keyboard solo is just fantastic and something you would hear from the likes of Weckl, Chambers or Vinni. Love this vid!

@@colinsburghlibrary2632. Yeah it's just so fun to listen to and how clean if plays on each 3rd of every other triplet on the bell. Disagree. I enjoyed this less, because of the extra notes. This song has established parts, and my brain struggled to enjoy the song because it wasn't hearing them.
@bwolohan185 жыл бұрын
@@ryancox5097 Yeah, there's an element that too I think. We're so used to Jeff just being and absolute "groove king" that it's unusual to hear. For me, 'real exiting, love how he's just flaring up for the sake of it. Any good musician certainly knows not to bring it into the studio unless you're Carter Beauford (completely different style of music though)

A good musician has to be mature .I used to get told "I was a great bass player" all the time as a teenager. If I listen anything I played on in the late 90's I almost cringe at how much I over played. I played disco/funk/slap in nearly everything and it was cool to hear as a bass player. As I got into my 20's I got less and less busy but with the same and more tech ability. I just matured. Listen to my cover of ("Ryan Adams, let it ride, Brian Wolohan) I'm playing so little that I'm just playing one note on each downbeat of the bar but I'm playing for the song. I'm not showcasing my playing. I'm showcasing the song. That maturity took me a few years to get to and I'm sure you guys would have similar experiences. This Rosanna vid is great and I'm sure he is mature and knows he's showing his skills which are brilliant.

If I thought i was never going to learn to play this groove properly, I think after watching this I wont even bother trying anymore. In My humble opinion, he just took the standard and kicked it up the street. For those who don't approve of this cover, see it for what it is.... someones interpretation of a classic with their own flair added. It should be respected and appreciated as such.

The groove is on, and he’s nailing it with some rudiments and over the bar line fills. It’s very funny to see all the criticism here. I’m very confident about 90%of those saying negative comments here don’t have nearly the skill level as our gifted player has in this video. Relax people and enjoy the artistry!!!!!!!!
