Great episode. Man I wish Jim wrote 5 3 1 back 10 years ago. Just knowing that you can make a lot of gains without maximal weights and not rushing my weights to maximal weights so fast would've made me so much stronger over the long run.

I wrestled for 7 years and I wrestled heavyweight for 6. First heavyweight match I was 160-170 pounds and for the next 5 years I lost way more than I won to guys up to 100lbs heavier than me. My Jr year that all changed, I was only like 6'3 at the time but I finally got up in the 240's and ended the season 12 and 2. Winning after all those years of grinding and struggling was great but all those ass kickings and all that hard work was what stayed with me to today.

over a year late watching this video, but I just started 531. It's easy to want to add a bunch of bullcrap to the program, but Jim is right about the long term goals. This is really a turtle race. Don't become impatient. Good stuff guysBTW, I'm definitely gonna read the book he wrote to his sons. I respect this man. I want to learn to be a father like that yo, for real

"The best thing you can do as an athlete is not get hurt." So true. I've been seriously hurt twice over the past five years and have only made about a year or two's worth of progress because of recovery and rehab. Constantly starting from square one is demoralizing and depressing.

Jim Wendler's 531 was very effective for me personally, the Max reps sets allowed me to shoot for rep PRS multiple times a week and were insanely effective. I dabbled with starting strength and got nowhere near the results. My only thought was it could stand to benefit from a little more emphasis on pulling muscles for complete strength. Anyone interested in getting seriously strong should give 531 a shot.

I'll be honest here, with the title, I was expecting more of a discussion on the program other than "Google Jim Wendler." I get that the goal wasn't to read his book online, but a little discussion on the topic of his program or philosophy would have been nice. I enjoyed the jokes and knee slapping, but the content just wasn't there.

havent even watched this and I already came. Also, I dont think they should have elliott hulse on, obviously they've probably considered it but he pretty much had a nervous breakdown on film and has no professional credibility anymore. He became a salesmen and thought he was a messiah, and i'm not saying this hatefully or degradingly as I watched his videos for years and he helped me alot. Omar Isuf would be dope. Dan Green would make me cry tears of pure bliss.

I used to watch the Hulse a lot, cause he gave what I thought was pretty good advice. he then made a video called"how to take a dump" or some shit like that where he spent 5 minutes explaining how to squat down to properly take a shit to open the colon or something. I unsubbed and he has since proceeded to unravel. if it was still 2010 Hulse would be a great guest, but not in 2015

@brettlarson3801 9 жыл бұрын
cheloox7 might not be up anymore, called "frightened little king" or something like that, directed at a guy named elgintensity who got famous for trolling crossfit. When Elliott started getting pretty out there with his shit Elgin made a satire video on him, Elliott responded with aforementioned 20+ minute video where he said things that made me realize the money and fame had gotten to him. I stopped watching him, he stopped making videos a few weeks later. Watch his video called "ignore everyone", he basically did the opposite of that video, which still has great advice

Killer episode of Barbell shrugged. These guys are the real deal with strong inspiring attitudes to training and life. When someone references down and eyehategod in a training related interview you know you're on a winner. There doesnt need to be a seperation between training, music, work and so on. Its all just fucking life. Great work. And if this episode teaches us anything, its that bledsoe needs to listen to more metal. Get on it man :)

+TheBadGuy Usually everyone adds volume because intuitively you know it's not enough. Same with the Texas Method. I add two, tree, sometimes even four accessory lifts after the end of each workout, also do GPP on my off days and I recover perfectly fine. I'm not lifting 500+ pounds either, but the majority of intermediates doing these programs arent either.

"Dave Tate's Periodisation Bible" is probably a version you'd quite like, by the man Dave Tate himself, another world-record veteran Powerlifter, who's trained under Louie Simmons (so you know he's got all his ducks in a row), it's a version where it goes: Main compound 5/3/1 Accessory 5X10 Accessory 5X10 Accessory 5X10 Heaps of people do better with volume, and that's what Tate is cracking into You still on average walk out of the gym in 45 minutes/ an hour, but this way you're still sticking to the plan.
