The easiest way to go back to the selection tool is to hit Esc. Just make it a habit to hit Esc every time you are finished with a text or a graphic. I learned I have been placing photos wrong without a box first. That is why they are placed with very very large size. Now that problem is solved, thanks! :)

Yes, exactly! I always encourage students to develop that habit :) you can also use Esc. V also works (unless you’re on the Type Tool) :)

@@katesilveradobe The Esc key sitting by itself in the upper left corner you can hit it without even looking. But the V key needs to be located first. I had this problem probably a year (or more) before I finally found I could use the Esc key... Another "problem" is when you inadvertantly hit the TAB key and all the toolbars disappear. The first time this happened I got freaked out, and I struggled to find out what happened and how to get the toolbars back. Solution was simple, just hit the TAB bar one more time:)...
