TESTIMONIALS
‘Started hitting the moves laid out in these courses the very next class...extremely uplifting to have such a quick improvement in my game’ - Houston, TX
‘I’m the only white belt in the academy doing these moves…I’m suddenly competing at a blue belt and above level…thanks Coach Tom’ - LA, California
‘Some of the best strategies you are going to see for control and submission’ - London, UK
‘The detailed way Prof Tom breaks down his moves into the absolute essentials is just next level for me. This is absolute gold‘ - Sydney, Australia
‘Most of the guys at my Academy, have about 60lbs on me, but since purchasing your ‘Kimura Attack system’ and ’14 days’ everything has changed. I feel much more confident, roll better and the guys on the mat have commented on the same. Thanks, Coach Tom’ - Dallas, TX
‘I know you have your names for your courses, but I’ve renamed them the ‘Zero to hero’ courses, I went from getting constantly owned, to now being completely dominant on the mat in no time at all’ - San Diego, California
‘I use the course material heaps, and just recently put it into action at a local comp, walked away with double gold. No one was more surprised than me! - Miami, Florida
‘As a new white belt, these classes have helped me so much, Prof Tom’s technique, the details, and his attitude. I love how Prof. Tom shows the ‘mistakes people make’ and then shows the correct way of doing things. The only one I have ever seen do this’ - New York, New York
Great videos, great instruction. I just watch them for hours…Melbourne, Australia
‘The instructional saved me big time at a recent comp, my opponent was def more experienced, but that was ok, coz I had Prof Tom’s video in my brain. Nailed it and scored gold’ - Colorado, Denver
‘All of it. Everything you show in your awesome videos are now my ‘go to techniques’. Thanks for your vids Prof, Tom’ - Houston, TX
‘You really have to watch every second of the video because Prof, Tom drops these little nuggets of gold throughout the course. And they make ALL the difference. The only one doing this. Keep them coming Professor’ - NY, New York
‘If I could only be taught from one person, Prof Tom would be it. I can’t wait to train in person one day’ - Dallas, TX
‘Went to a recent competition with these videos fresh in my mind. I knew I had an edge and the confidence this gave me was unreal. Got the gold. All submission wins! - LA, California

Thank you, Tom. I started to practice Jiu-Jitsu 4 years ago and I subscribed your channel to improve my skill. At that time, however, I was not able to understand this lapel technique at all. But, these days, I can understand your video clips a little bit more. I am really happy to know your channel. One day, if possible, I hope to visit your gym and learn from you. - A Korean subscriber

This looks amazing *if* I can get the initial set up. By chance do you have any videos on breaking posture in closed guard? I seem to be relying on far too much muscle rather than technique to break posture and then begin a sweep or pass. Thanks Coach Tom!

Grab both collars and windshield wiper side to side with your head and pull down when your head is off line....works wonders for breaking posture!!!!!!!!! If their posture is solid, just wrap the lapel instead or hip bump sweep! Happy rolling (-: Coach Tom

Hi Tom Mate this attack works like a treat but i found that once i training partners knew it was coming they really closed down tight making it difficult to slip that hand through the leg, any suggestions? Keep up the good work - by far my fav youtube channel ever!! PS. A clip on the reverse triangle/kimura from side control would be epic if you get the opportunity ;-)

Hi Ryan, thanks for the great feedback! ALL of my black and brown belt training partners know this is my current favourite attack but simply hip bump them to the wrap side and they will open their leg to avoid the rollover and then slip it under. Works a treat for me. I will try to get a SC reverse triangle/kimura vid up for sure when I get back to Australia. All the best (-: Coach Tom

Tom, Thanks for all the effort to get out some great info. Probably going to show my inexperience here but, dose this Guard prohibit you from working the "flower/pendulum/ failed arm" sweep? Again thanks for the instruction, always.

I personally pull their offending arm in that's pushing and go for the armbar. Just keep rotating alternatively like you are going for the armbar and that will keep them at bay! (-: Coach Tom Davey

Absolutely! likewise for the omoplata (-: Coach Tom Davey
@pattyorigami

Question: I have been playing around with this guard and the other day I accidentally fed the lapel OVER TOP of my opponent's arm on that side, creating an interesting arm trap in addition to the other controls this position offers. Is there any value to this variation or alternative setups or attacks this could create? Or is it just better for locking them down (the control did feel really solid)? One drawback I see is that the trapped arm isn't as vulnerable to omoplata since there's no chance for that elbow to flare out, so maybe it's better to not trap it as that will eliminate one of the attack options.

Hi Tom, I have used this lapel guard a couple of times and I have had several partners stretch the locked leg back to break the grip. Is there a way around this? P.s I realise this is an old video but I have only just started working with it.
