I've spent 3 days, including one whole night trying to get this board to control spindle speed through mach3. These settings are different to all the other ones I've seen & tried. If they work for me tomorrow, I think I'm gonna cry

archiearchie666 I first tried modifying my existing profile but mach3 got itself confused. I created a brand new profile and setup everything from the beginning. PWM worked fine with the new settings once I figured out the spindle pulley config. I hope it works out for you.

Hello my friend. I recently bought a HY VFD 2.2Kw with a water cooled spindle of 2.2Kw too. I've placed all the right parameters in vfd and works fine from the on board potentiometer. Then I proceeded to establish the connection between this BoB using mach3 and the vfd. So I changed the parameters on vfd and now I can start and stop correctly the spindle and also to regulate the speed from mach3. But here I meet the big problem. Giving the high speed of 24000 rpm it gives me the right rpm to vfd. Also the voltage that time at 0-10v is around 9,48. When I start to decreasing the speed by Mach3 the vfd keep the same amount of rpm's until I reach at 60% of the initial speed. Then the vfd decreases the rpm around 21360 and keep going further down with mach3 it still decreasing the amount of rpm but not accordingly the percentage. And when I reach to almost zero rpm the spindle also stops. I changed a lot of different numbers at base PMW freq box but not big difference. Also in spindle pulley config I placed 24000 max rpm with 1 at ratio. Can you help me to solve my problem ? Thank you in advance.

Hi Mario, first of all before connecting to the vfd check the output voltage of the Bob at the different mach3 spindle settings. 24000 should give approx 10v at 12000 should give approx 5v etc - check the Bob is working in a linear expected fashion. If the Bob is ok then it will be a parameter in your vfd. It may be setup for a 0-5v input hence the failure to change speed until You get to around 50-60%.

@@nsa1773 Hi again and thank you for your response. Unfortunatly the appropriate Pd parameter for 0-10 is correct set in vfd. In the afternoon when I'll be back I will check the voltage from Bob. I have to additional notice you that my pc is an old one and works at 25000Hz and as I read from mach3 manual placing 100 as base PWM freq, that should give me a range of 250 different speed regulations and that means 24000rpm/250 = 96 rpm every step. Unfortunately I don't have this resolution . Yet i hope so. If I find that the BoB's voltage is correct, is there a way you can help me to figure out how to solve this problem ?

You were right about Pd070. I had placed 1 as the manual describing.Before the table of parameters shows the that we have to change the jumper switch from VR to VI and says to modify the parameter Pd002 and Pd070 to 1. But in the table of parameters shows that Pd070 1= 0-5 while 0= 0-10. So I change it and now the scaling works fine except that it doesn't reach even the 22000 rpm. Now with the connection on BoB I measured the voltage and I find it lower than 9 volts. I provide to BoB 12 volt from an old pc power supply. Do you think that I should raise the voltage up to 24 volt ?

Hi sir, i have the same bob which i plan to pair it with UC400ETH on my cnc router. Your video it's very informative and heplful but something is still unclear to me. So, in order to attach my 4 wires VFD to bob i will hook the DCM + FWD pins to bob's relay switch pins and AVI + ACM to 0 - 10v bob's pins and i should have Mach3 VFD control,right ? Now what happens to P1 (pwm) and P17 (relay) pins , have they got any or any other use ? Does the P17 get triggered together with the on board relay when you start spindle in Mach3 so i can use it to trigger an additional relay for hoover or spindle coolant ? What about the P1, what use can i have for it ? Thank you.

You have not told me what your vfd is but as you describe you connect you vfd input common and run input signal to the relay and your vfd analogue common and analogue input to the analogue output terminals on the Bob. Pin 1 from the parallel port is connected to the onboard analogue converter to provide the 0-10V analogue output. The pin 1 screw terminal is generally not utilised. With the onboard jumper connected, pin 17 is used by Mach 3 to switch the onboard relay on/off. The P17 screw terminal will simply mimic 0v or 5v corresponding with the on / off signal to the relay. You could use it to trigger another relay but you might overload the circuit so I would trigger another relay via a transistor or mosfet to boost the signal.

@@nsa1773 Thank you for response, regarding P17 relay mode pin of course i intend to use it by sending it's 5v signal to a relay module like this www.amazon.co.uk/Akozon-Timer-Module-Adjustable-Switch/dp/B07H5MVMDQ . As for the VFD wiring, to be more explicite i have this picture uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180127/21e3e44d017cbbf652eab697afb11899.jpg . I don't know the make of my VFD board as it came as just a board located in the CNC control box but the terminal screws are the same with the ones in the picture and on my usb bob i have DCM + a choosen output pin set accordingly in Mach3 which does what the relay of this parallel bob would do, and the 0 - 10v hooked to ACM and AVI for pwm control. So, if this makes sense, i would like to have your oppinion as this might be helpful for many other users that can't manage to do the wiring properly. Regards, John.

I have a LS ig5a inverter I connect it as is the video, the spindle starts but it is turning at a minimum and I can not make the revolutions rise, will I miss some cable? I have it counted as follows, v1 -> 0-10v / CM-> relay / p2 -> relay
@nsa1773
@nsa1773 4 жыл бұрын
The pmw negative and one side of relay p17 should go to your cm terminal. PWM positive should go to v1 terminal and the other side of p17 to your p1 or p2 terminal. Before connecting to your vfd verify the Bob works first. Once you verify the Bob works, i.e. PWM voltage varies as expected with speed changes from the main screen then connect to your vfd. If the vfd does not not operate as expected then it is the parameter settings on your vfd. The vfd must be configured to respond to the potentiometer / analogue input. On your vfd the you also have to tell it to expect 0-10v signal not -10 to +10v and not current input.

Im trying to use the spindle connections to turn on and off my plasma torch. Do i need to add a 12-24v dc external supply, also were in mach3 do i get it to recognize the spindle on/off. Would appreciate your help, thanks.
@nsa1773
@nsa1773 5 жыл бұрын
If you are using any of the inputs and want to use the pwm signal then you must provide both the 5v usb connection and a 12-24v connections from and external supply to the board. If you are just going to use the onboard relay to switch your plasma torch then no external supply is required. Just set the system up as per the video and connect the relay to the plasma on/off torch control of your system. Operating the spindle on/off on the main plasm screen will trigger the relay also sending m3 commands will trigger the relay on and an m5 command will turn the relay off.

My board always shows 10v and the relay buzzes if the speed is not near maximum. The spindle will run only when the speed is turned up and only goes at maximum rpm. I have everything set like the video shows. I have a 12000rpm air cooled spindle. It worked fine when I had it connected to a different controller board (USB) using an output to control an external relay to turn the spindle on and off. I switched to this parallel board because the other had erratic behavior running some vb scripts.

Update. The relay turns on and off normally now (???), but the spindle only runs at max rpm no matter where I set the rpm at. Before with the other board, the PWMBase Freq was at 5. I tried it at different settings and it doesn’t make any difference. I have it set at 100 as the instructions shows.

Hi, in ports and pins the spindle should be assigned to pin 1 this is where the PWM signal will be sent. Output1 should be assigned to pin 17 to switch the relay on / off. Set the pulley as 1.52 in the video. On the main mach3 page enter / type a spindle speed value first in the box. This value can be up to the maximum value set in the pulley setup. If you have setup pulley 1 to 24000 and enter 12000 in the spindle speed box then 5v should be output when the spindle turned on. The slider should then work. My system did not work until I realised a value must be entered on the main screen spindle speed. If you still have problems I will setup a board here at the weekend and retest.

@@nsa1773 Hi and thanks for the help. I had everything set up correctly but didn't know about having to enter a spindle speed value on the main screen. I tried the M3, S(speed) and M5 commands in the MDI screen and they worked, so even if I couldn't control the speed with the slider or +/- buttons, my g code programs would have worked properly. Also the slider was working backwards, so I had to change that setting too, so maybe the G code would not have worked correctly. Thanks again!

The board in this video does not require any special driver files only the generic parallel driver in mach3. I am not familiar with the red rare board I would look for a cnc forum or user group who may have come across the issue.

Your DCM and FWD connections from the inverter go to the P17 relay connections on the breakout board as you said, orientation does not matter. Your drive ACM connection to the breakout board PWM negative terminal and your drive AVI terminal to the breakout board PWM positive connection. You do not need any other connections from the drive. You then need to change your drive parameters to use external control and external analogue control (00-20 to 2 and 00-21 to 1?) Check your vfd manual. Other settings may have to be changed later to match your spindle!

@@nsa1773 Thanks for your help😄 I really appreciate it. I have set the parameters in vfd and i can control my spindle with mach3 interface. I have a new different problem now, When I start the spindle it triggers a limit switch. And I have checked no limit switch is physically triggered at that time. I think this maybe due to noise problem. I have used shielded wires for most of my limit switch wiring but not for vfd. What do you think may be causing this? Any solution? Would really appreciate your help again.

It is important to use shielded cable also on your spindle wiring suitably rated of course. Connect all the shield ends to a single earth/ground connection at your panel. Only connect shields at one end of the cable to prevent ground loops. If possible keeps signal cables and vfd cables seperated in trunking / panel / ducting.

How to use the spindle, when I am using all 5 axis? (pin 16 and 17 used by B axis)
@nsa1773
@nsa1773 4 жыл бұрын
If you are using all five axis then you can’t use a single board to control the spindle. You can fit a second parallel interface to your machine and use a second breakout board. Mach 3 can be used to control both boards. Use the inbuilt parallel port for the main axis drive and the second board just for spindle control. Alternatively you can used a multi port motion controller card (usb or Ethernet controlled).

@@nsa1773 Thanks for the reply. Sounds like a flawed design... What If I use a 6 axis mach3 bob, are the 5 axis usable together with the spindle on the same board then?
@nsa1773
@nsa1773 4 жыл бұрын
Knowing Belief, it is not a flawed design, there is only a limited amount of inputs and outputs on a parallel port therefore this is the limitation. You can pick up another parallel board and a second bob quite cheaply and use the second bob for the spindle as stated earlier. An Ethernet 6 axis motion controller card is just a buffer with twin parallel ports - you still need two bob’s with this i.e. eth400.

You can only use the onboard relay if you require no more than 4 axis. If you are using all five axis you cannot use the onboard relay. If you require more outputs you would have to add a second parallel port to your pc or use an ethenet motion controller UC400eth which provide 2 paralle ports.

Lc1975 9.79v is close enough to the maximum 10v output and may be correct due to any difference in the boards. Have you tested this voltage varies when you adjust the spindle speed on the Mach 3 main screen. Set the pulley first as 1min 51 in the video then set a speed on the main screen as the next part of the video. If you set 24000 on the pulley and then set 24000 on the main screen 10v will be output, when 12000 is then set on the main screen 5v is output. The actual speed is actually dependant on your spindle and vfd settings. What vfd do you have? Get the board working first then concentrate on the vfd.

@nsa1773
@nsa1773 5 жыл бұрын
The break out board contains a relay which is used for turning the spindle on or off. The direction is controlled directly by the spindle inverter. The inverter will contain parameters which can be changed to change the normal running direction of the spindle. It is also normally possible to add a single pole switch wired to the correct control terminal of the inverter. With the switch contact open the spindle will run one way and closed the spindle will run the opposite way. Again some parameters in the inverter will need changing to allow control via the control terminals and not the keypad. It is not normal to require direction control of the spindle but I do not no your application! Consult the inverter manual.
@nsa1773
@nsa1773 5 жыл бұрын
Additional info. The board only has one relay hence the advice above. Mach3 does have the option to setup in ports and pins output 2 to any unused output pin - i.e pin 16. You would have to wire your own relay 5v relay (with back emf protection) to pin 16 and ground and connect the contacts to your inverter direction control input. In the spindle setup screen / relay control, set ccw M4 to output #2 and you should be able to operate the direction by M4 commands in your code. I have not used this setup so trial and error may be required.

+ISRAEL RAVELO I have found that 2 out of 3 of these boards that I purchased had the wrong components placed in the PWM circuit. They had placed resistors where there was supposed to be capacitors and had other resistors with wrong values. These errors mess up the regulator which generates the 10 volts. I had purchase one of these bad boards over 18 months ago, so it looks like very poor quality control. The two bad boards were blue, but the good board was green.
