Still amazing how far programming has come. Do we even realize what age we live in? People 1000 years ago would have killed to have this technology. Seems like people are just dumbed down to it now- I am still amazed each time I see it.

In the early 60s we had a kind of CNC here in the UK... we in the Tool Room named it the TC: officially the Tape Controlled Horizontal and Vertical Milling Machine, where huge lumps of cast iron (with a machined surface on the underside) were secured to the machine bed and came out perfect, so CNC is far from new. I must admit, though, in 1962 it was nothing like (not even a single iota like) what is available today! In those days 'digital' was in its infancy and programmable machines utilised 'punch-card' inputs, which was fine for squares, triangles and (in the hands of a decent programmer) circles and radii. Great video, guys! :o)

MDAPrecision Dear Santa Claus. I have been a good boy all year, and would like one of these 5-axis CNC machines please. The grey and black one is nice, but if you can make me a red one, that would be nice too. I can arrange to leave the garage open on Christmas Eve so you don't have to try to get it through the chimney. As usual, I will be leaving you a glass of nice brandy and some carrots for the reindeer. Thanks.

+Spoif I am allergic to brandy and carrots give the reindeer the shits. Doesn't sound that bad, but when you have Rudolph's butt three feet from your face and you average Mach 804, reindeer poop can sting a little. Leave out some low fat milk and a few cookies and I'll see what I can do.

I used to use a piece of paper to do it, it sounds stupid but it's how I was taught, put a piece of paper between the metal and the tool, lower it until you can't slide the paper around anymore, it's been a while but I think my mentor taught me to slide the paper out then lower it just a hair to compensate, I haven't done any machining in a long time though.

I have a CNC machined ceramic tooth in my head right now. The dentist made some measurements and gave them to the machine, which cut the crown (inside and out) that was then glued onto the remains of my original tooth. It works great. This is actually old technology. The last time I was there, the machine was down because the out of date computer was inadequate to run the upgraded software.

Im assuming the work piece was located onto something during initial setup as I can't imagine a quick tighten up with a cap head would meet the needs of a turbine - either that or there was a finishing process afterwards to pick up the true center line.

Why stepper motors, and not servos? I know it is cheaper solution, but it creates a lot of vibration on low rpm, which transfer to chassis and at the end to the spindle and tool. Is this the reason why tool change routine is so slow? What is the machine maximum speed? Here on video, it seems it doesnt exceed 2500 mm/min.

How do you calculate the twist of a turbine blade like that????
@carmelpule6954
@carmelpule6954 9 жыл бұрын
Delicious DeBlair When designing a propeller, I normally consider any radius, then open it up by finding the circumference at that radius, Now every point on any radius must move forward the PITCH to be considered . well the pitch divided by the circumference is the tangent of the angle ( twist ) in question. As the circumference increases with radius, the twist of the propeller is lowest at the tip of the propeller and greatest at the hub. For a centrifugal /axial turbine blade it could be more difficult as the medium is compressed, but with a little thinking and thermodynamics one can take it all into account, Congratulations for realising the mathematical difficulties that exist in such machines, It is such a pity this is not considered as ART for that is what it is. Invisible and silent art, which many people just do not appreciate, Congratulations for your observation and I would say that your emotions and sensitivity is highly developed for noticing and observing such an issue. Good luck with your wishes.
@DeliciousDeBlair

I would be a lot happier emotionally if I knew the exact formula but I will try to analyze what you wrote here, plug in some numbers and see if it produces anything my CAD system will render. If so, I'll ask a friend of mine to try to copy it and if it works, I'l post a photo of the finished work on my video list. I really want to make a Paxton type supercharger for my little diesel track loader so I can increase its power and fuel efficiency, but to do that I would need to be able to design the compressor as close to the peak complessile optimum for the machine's internal tolerances, without 'going over' and causing rapid engine wear. Before I could even do that much, however, I would first need to perform a complete overhaul on the machine to ensure all of the bearing, gaskets and hard moving parts such as rods, pins and pistons were all up to the task. Ideally, a double forged custom machined steel crank shaft and nitride crank bearings, forged titanium pistons with cast-in teflon rings and connecting rods balanced to the new crank and an ultra-form head gasket for ratios as high as 25:1 . In the mean time, I will also study the one compressor I have on hand. Thank you for the mathematical references! (^_^)/

VaporheadATC Well that is a turbo impeller for car use most likely. Most medium-grade wheels are indeed aluminum. High-dollar/high-performance turbos have titanium compressor wheels. Some knock off ebay turbos actually have steel blades on compressor side and exhaust

these were made at a place I worked at but 10" or so diameter and out of wax for a casting or something. Pretty cool to watch, not fun to clean up chips.
