5 BEST COMBOS for Bass Fishing in the GRASS ❗️ With Seth Feider❗️

Take heed when Seth Feider starts dropping knowledge about bass fishing submerged grass (wired2.fish/FeiderGrassMastery). Feider has cut his teeth chasing largemouth bass in fertile fields of submerged grass beds of milfoil, hydrilla and coontail with the simple goal of quickly locating fish then milking the school before moving on. He shares his 5 core rod and bait setups for accomplishing this goal with several additional nuggets relating to rod and reel selection, line choice and bait colors. *Product listing below.
1. Texas rig. The first rod Feider grabs, a Texas rig excels as a search bait thanks to how cleanly it comes through cover. Feider prefers ringed EWG hooks over regular EWG and straight-shank hooks -- they allow for more range of motion, keep the bait straight on the fall, and deliver exceptional hookup and retention properties.
2. Compact tungsten jig. After catching a few bass on a Texas rig, Feider often pitches back with a compact tungsten jig. Jigs present bass with a bulkier profile, which often triggers bigger bass. The compact nature of a tungsten jig is an ideal blend of smaller size and big profile -- this blend can generate a lot of bites and big fish.
3. Heavy flipping jig. Bass in the fall months love big jigs. Feider reaches for beefy 3/4-ounce flipping jigs when targeting fall bass. He adjusts his equipment to a 7'6'' heavy power rod spooled with straight braid to drive big hooks home.
4. Pitching plastic on a Tokyo Rig Heavy Duty Wide Gap hook. A Tokyo-rigged plastic drops vertically through cover with ease while delivering a unique action on the bottom. It's a great option for targeting pressured bass conditioned to an onslaught of Texas rigs and jigs. Feider uses lighter tungsten with a Tokyo Rig and shakes it on the bottom (like a drop shot) instead of hopping it. He also prefers using flatter beaver-style baits to maintain a horizontal position (increased water resistance).
5. Wacky-rigged worm on a Tokyo Rig Worm hook. Feider pitches a wacky-rigged stickbait on a Tokyo Rig round bend worm hook to mop up any remaining bites. In this scenario, he scales his leader material down to 14-pound test for refinement, which also has the strength to handle fish in cover.

Nah, most likely a righty. He doesn't swap hands after casting like most folks. There's a good bit of us that think it's dumb to cast with your dominant hand then switch rod hands and then use your dominate hand to turn circles. Makes more sense to cast and work your bait with your dominant hand

Very informative video. Learned more than i thought i knew. How come he keeps saying med heavy rod in 7Ft. The link to tackle warehouse is for a med-med heavy rod. Which Ehrler considers finesse. I would rather have a 7ft med heavy than the 7ft 3 med heavy that is listed on website. Any clarification would be helpful. thanks

Thanks for asking. He runs his leader so that the line-to-line knot is between the casting reel and first guide while the bait sits roughly the same distance between the reel and first guide. The main thing is that he doesn't want the knot getting reeled into the spool, as it has a tendency to catch the level wind and weaken. I'm sure you found the video by now, as I'm late to this thread (only 9 months...) I run mine just below the bottom guide or two, as Seth does... Makes it way smoother to pitch and flip with because your knot is coming almost straight through the guides during the initial motion of the rod. You'll run into issues if it's near the top guides, especially with micros and semi-micros. You'll also be able to retie a few times before having to replace your leader. Peace ~

I'm skeptical on that EWG hook but I bought some and I am praying I won't lose fish compared to my flipping hook. Anyone use the EWG and have good hookups?

I have never used a straight shank in my life. I started pitching tubes about 20yrs ago and the ewg made sense. Since then I’ve pitched beavers, worms ect with the ewg and I rarely if ever loose fish. Everyone says SShook but I don’t have any confidence in it. I live off the Detroit River and fish smallys and largemouth all the time, my favorite hook is the owner wide gap plus the hook point isn’t in line with the eye. Just got off the water and my wife who’s hooksets aren’t great caught 6 smalls and 3 largemouth using the 3/0 w a small beaver. The wide gap plus is the ticket. Sorry so long.

The EWG is the way to go, especially the newer ringed hook from VMC (wasn't the biggest fan of their hooks but they've really improved the last few years; gauge is perfect with a slight offset). My hookup to land ratio is so good using the ringed hook... Only time I use a straight shank is for punching, as it's a must with the big rod. Peace ~

Use nikko plastics not a huge variety of color but durability is crazy on the bassworms also like the hellgrammites on ned head caught upwards of 25 smallies never damaged the plastic had to change the jighead before the plastic

There's no secret... You'll run through plastics doing this but it means you're catching them... You can manipulate the plastic a touch over the Z bend and the hook point; you can always get a few more fish out of a bait. Peace ~

When you’re jigging like this is your tension control set pretty tight? I see him letting out line and setting the hook pretty much immediately, but I don’t have a boat or good way of guessing rate of fall at full tension, half tension, etc. Any good advice on how to play out tension control and rate of fall?

Generally we set our tension to just a little less than the weight of the lure. So crank down the tension, engage the reel and then click the thumbbar. Then ease back on the tension until the lure starts to fall. What you want is the lure to hit the ground and the spool not keep spinning much. Seth keeps his tension loose and feathers the spool with his thumb. That takes a lot more practice and time on the water.

The Average Angler really? I don’t think so. 8:1 reel with longer handle gives fast retrieve but way less power and torque. If you believe the opposite you’re a fool. And I really don’t care what you think. I caught a 230lb tuna yesterday. My 215th over 200lbs. I could never turn the handle on a high ratio long handled reel. Now go brush yourself teeth.
