Vietnam's best desserts...at least what I think are the best... Also, I don't know why i keep saying "Dishes" Instead of "Color" at the Chè spot, Màu not Món :(
Fried Banana - They set up right across the street from here. 195 Đ. Lâm Văn Bền, Tân Quy, Quận 7, Hồ Chí Minh usually open from around 9am to 4pm
"Sweet Soup" - g.co/kgs/epBMtmt
Flan - g.co/kgs/yRwf9n2
Coconut and Crispy Sugar Roll - Good Luck :)
Grilled Sticky Rice Banana - maps.app.goo.gl/dq3emgDECACxMX5n9
this is a bit hard to find and their hours are tough

Bò bía ngọt vendors are like superheroes. They wouldn't show up when we wanted them. They would show up unexpectedly only when we need them.

I don't usually have these street desserts, but there is a traditional sweet that I like, and it's called "bánh đậu xanh" or mung bean cake. It's mung bean cooked to perfection, mashed, sweetened, and then formed into squares and cut into smaller squares. It's slightly sweet, kinda dry, and has a unique flavor. The dryness is actually preferred because we don't just eat it by itself; we pair it with a hot cup of tea. To me this is the Vietnamese answer to English tea and cake.

as Indonesian I even got surprised by their desserts variety at traditional market the first time I come to Ho Chi Minh at that time 😂😂. Many is similar to other south east Asia countries, but still I love Vietnamese foods, amazingly good. Yummm!!

Next time you should really bring "Tào phớ" to a video. It's similar to Chè but not quite. To me it's kinda like if Flan and Chè have a child together. The "flan" in Tào Phớ is Tofu (or something I have no idea) that's been sweetened and just melts in your mouth. It's custardy and creamy but still very light. Usually tào phớ is served hot for some reason but when it's ice cold like Chè, sheesh. And also when it's sold at a vendor that just keeps moving around, the "Tào phớ" song is so catchy and iconic lol (Same with "Bánh Đúc" and many more) XD

When I lived in Vietnam growing up, my favourite sweet was the pandan cake with coconut filling - there was one vendor who would walk through our alley way randomly, and I would run to him! He would only ever show up, you could never find him when you wanted it 😭 if you ever see something like this I would love to see it! I miss Vietnam so much

"bò bía" itself is a borrowed word "popiah" from Cantonese, I think, or from Fujian/Teochew. It is not originally Vietnamese so it's not "beef something" hahaha. It is a rolled up dessert, and it's quite good. You can find popiah sold in Singapore as well, because there's a Teochew community there.
@mimimarcus
@mimimarcus 17 күн бұрын
Yes, you're right that the term "bò bía" is referring to a Cantonese dish, but that dish is a savory dish that was modified to fit local tastes when some Cantonese immigrated into Vietnam decades or centuries ago. However, the dessert here is a 100% Vietnamese dish. It just borrowed the term "bò bía" to describe itself as a roll dish.

I don't know what "bò bía" means,too. But they usually use this word to call these kinds of rolls, where you put many things in a rice paper(or something that looks similar to rice paper), and roll it. Certainly "bò" in "bò bía" don't have any involvement with beef at all.

I dunno if you ever try Kem Chiên which is fry ice-cream but that's a must try desserts if you're looking for a interesting things to chill in these rainy season. And yeah, because it's a "hot and cold" dessert combine with each other so is contraindicated with anyone who has weak stomach. :D try it at Kem Ký - 177 Hải Thượng Lãn Ông St, Dis 5. Also there're Kem Xôi, which is "Ice-cream with Sticky Rice" (use to come with coconut flavor), you can find it at Cà-rem Kem Dừa Thái 191 Cách Mạng Tháng 8 St, Ward 4, Dis 3.

I saw the chinsu commercial, and i gotta tell you it's a bit off the limit. Chinsu is a popular brand but it's also a controversial brand. Using their chilly sauce with rice is kinda offensive to Vietnamese. And I believe there'll be some inappropriate word from some people to you in later days, but don't worry it's temporary, ppl will quickly forget about it. But make sure not to work with masan in the future. Wish you best.
