Wow I love this! Thank you so much for making the video. I've been a longtime film shooter, have been developing my own film for a long time and have collected many cameras over time. I've been itching to learn how to repair them and this is a really helpful starter list for tools to get :)

Great presentation! One more thing that you can add to your maintenance toolkit is the lens suction pen/tool. Really good for minimizing the handling and re inserting of a lens once it has been cleaned cleaned. cheers

Wow its been a year and more since this comment. My AE-1 squeak was fixed with a careful lube of the internals, alas I have forgotten which part. But there are vids out there that show how to deal with the AE-1 squeak. My AE-1 is still going strong.

They have to be JIS head screwdrivers..not Phillips head ->>> FYI

True, big difference between JIS crosspoint head used on Japanese cameras versus Phillips head used in automotive and other applications. The wrong tips will destroy the screw heads. The same is true of firearms: mechanics screwdrivers will destroy screw heads on old guns because they are angled, flat ground heads are needed.

Hi! Just found your channel and just want to say thank you! Your channel has be sooo helpful I can’t even explain. I would LOVE ti see how to fix camera I’m super interested I learning how to do it but just don’t know where to start. I have a few cameras that need so love but they really aren’t worth the price of repair (120-200) for repair. But I’d love to get in there and try and learn

Hey, Nice video its funny that i use everything you recommend for when i work on my cameras :D I only have a few more even smaller screwdrivers because the ones out of those sets are some times way to big and i use syringes and q-tips to apply oil or isopropanol (carefully!) For good ligthing i repurposed an old screen (using only the backlight and the diffusion layer - removed the panel) hanging on an adjustable monitor mount :)

Oh that’s an awesome lighting idea! I didn’t mention my cleaning supplies! I use that kinda stuff too!

@@film_friends honestly I would have been surprised if you wouldn't use them.. I just mentioned them because i think they are essential for more less every repair on every camera i have done till now and its funny how they are often forgotten (even if you just can't do annything without them) The lighting is one of my most usefull projects till now.. its quite bright dimmable and because of the diffusion there are barly any shadows blocking your sight :)

Any tips to clean the "Yashica" part on front top section? it's like some rust or mold and can easily scraped but leave marks and residue
@film_friends

It’s really hard to do basically metal work will require some solvents and some sanding then buffing. That may destroy the leather though.

Just found your channel, already love the content and smashed that subscribe button! I just repaired a broken meter switch and battery compartment which was corroded ona Mamiya 1000DTL. I have other old cameras I want to tackle. That rubber matt is now in my amazon cart! Thanks for the info! One question, I have a Voigtlander Bessa T and for some reason the Color-Skopar lens will not lock in on the mount, its jamming when I twist in clockwise motion. Its seating in but it will only turn partially before its stuck? There are no obstructions, the release button works freely, the mount screws are tight. Im out of ideas 💡 Any thoughts?

Thanks for being here. no idea! it could be the threads or soemthing bloking the way. Sometimes these cameras have a button for activating the apputur rings after you put the lens on and that could be int he way
