1. Don't waste money on using 'special' engine oil or oil additive, use manufacturers recommendation. 2. Stick to correct tyre air pressure. 3. Use exact same factory fluid for transmission. 4. Stick to regular octane gas. 5. Don't bother with gimmick gadgets that supposedly increase mpg.

Toyota transmissions currently use Toyota WS Automatic Transmission Fluid. These transmissions do not have a dipstick, so the owner couldn't check the level if they wanted to. The WS fliud is rated for the "lifetime" of the transmission. That is, it works until the transmission fails! Many mechanics are flushing out the Toyota WS ATF ($15/quart) from their transmissions at

Have to disagree about only using regular octane petrol (gas). Most cars I've seen that state they require premium fuel will run fine for a short time on regular fuel, but not for a long time. E.g. BMW's 1.5 litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol - we occasionally see these in our shop with cracked pistons, and it has only ever happened in cases where the customer admitted they ran regular fuel instead of premium. Same thing with VW's 1.4 TSI 4-cylinder twincharged petrol engine (e.g. the high powered turbo AND supercharged version of the engine) - they occasionally come in and we find cracked pistons and the customer always admits to using regular fuel. If the manufacturer claims the engine REQUIRES premium fuel, USE IT! The manufacturer knows best.

i love Scotty but, but hes not always correct, its a know flaw of small engine petrol cars to be prone for precognition that results in damaging the engine its common knowledge here in EU. But i doubt he works on those engines at all since he live in USA so u have to watch content of Scottys channel and having in the mind hes talking for the USA scenarios not the EU, he doesn't really know much about EU. Those turbocharged small engines supposed to work on regular and premium gasoline (ecu detects the gasoline used and adjust timing) thing is engines like to break a hole by the piston when people use regular gasoline on them ;). Hes also wrong about the ceramic oil additives, those were tested and actually working good, the guy who tested it wanted to prove they do not work but it went out they do work well, after all who would care for the car longevity? car manufactures that don't approve those additives in first place or the customers? Scottys words ;)

Scotty is spot on with his myth busting. The only additive I can recommend is ENGINE RESTORE for your oil. I have been a mechanic for 40 years and in at least four newly bought cars that were burning a little oil, after putting in Engine Restore, within about 500 miles the smoke stopped or was reduced to the point it was hardly noticeable. This was not a lot of smoke but rather when you would first take off and you would get a brief period of blue smoke out the tail pipe.

Lol softer (low air pressure) tires pick up nails better? That's a new one. Defies the laws of physics.
@bryanfullerton1566
@bryanfullerton1566 4 жыл бұрын
@Catharsis decreased pressure allows the tire to form around any object including sharp objects. It has nothing to do with temperature. If your tires are that hot they are done anyway. Regardless the main resistance to punctures does not come from the rubber but from the cords in the tire. Thus the reason a 10 ply tire resists punctures better than an average P tire. If a roofing nail, usually 3/4 inch or less, gets run over by an 8 psi 35 inch tire it is less likely to be punctured due to the tire forming around it while the rest of the tire remains in contact with the ground supporting the weight of the car. Up that pressure to 35 psi and the nail will be pushed straight through due to increased pressure on the nail. Also the increased area is longitudinal and does more to support my explanation since the tire is going to move over it regardless and it shows the decreased surface area pressure.
@consaka1
@consaka1 4 жыл бұрын
@Catharsis Yes and increased area means decreased pounds per square inch. A sharp nail still requires a certain pressure "lbs per square inch" to puncture any tire. More pressure for a LT tire but still. Since it is the cords that do the majority of resisting puncture the temperature is a very minor factor. Its call physics. By what laws is your logic? AOC? Bernie Sanders? Hilliary? Obama? Thanks but you can apply all the politics you want to "YOUR" physics to try to justify your logic but I think I'll go with the OP's application of the laws of physics. It makes more sense and I have seen it for myself.

Scotty, seems like you haven't tried Liqui Moly's Ceratec. It is an excellent oil additive and I have been using it on my own cars for many years now. It reduces engine friction (noticeably, with more power both on the dyno as well as in the streets) and gives at least 1.5-2 km/l better gas mileage than the regular oils. This additive, once put into the engine, can last upto 10 oil changes before you have to put it in again. I mentioned it in another comment under one of your other older videos too but seems like you couldn't get to read that.

What you forgot to tell them is where to find the tire pressure. Normally it is a sticker on the driver's side door or inside the door frame next to the seat and it has the cold tire pressure you want your tires at for the best performance/life of the tires. Most of the cars/trucks I have worked on is 30 to 35 PSI.

I remember back in the early 70's putting mothballs in the tank. Only takes 2 per full tank. The car ran like crazy. Would shoot a blue flame out the tailpipe when you let off the throttle at high rpm. Then open the hood at night and the exhaust manifold would be a cherry red hot. After cracking the exhaust manifold and having to replace it. I stopped with the mothballs. Not this was in a 64 Ford Fairlane. LOL The crazy things we did back in the day.

Scotty nailed it again! The time you should steer clear from factory air pressure settings in your tires is if you're racing the car. When racing you might want to run a slightly lower air pressure because of the extreme heat generated when racing. We used to run nitrogen at 25psi cold in Corvette tires and we tried to keep the ideal pressure when they warmed up. For normal driving definitely go with the factory settings

Finally. A accurate answer to the question I see all the time. Higher octane gas in a modern car with VVT will improve the performance of the vehicle. No, it is not needed, but it does improve the performance and horsepower in modern engines if that’s what your trying to achieve. No, it probably won’t improve mileage as if your looking for more power your probably not going to keep your foot off of the pedal. Thanks for knowledgeable and correct information. Some people will argue indefinitely and incorrectly on this subject.

I had an 89 VW Fox I bought brand new and started purchasing an oil additive that the VW dealer sold. I used it in every oil change. It was called something like Kryx. It was a graphite formulation. I got over 300k Miles on the 1.8 liter engine that never burned oil and had nothing more than the main seal replaced. When the dealer stopped carrying this additive I used something else that basically stripped and cleaned it out and the engine then began to have issues and blow by. It goes to show you that some additives do work for the simple fact they enhance and improve metal surfaces for less friction. Havnt found anything that worked quite like that stuff did.
