Love this as much as your travel content! Living in a townhome on the East Coast doesn't give us as much space or quite as long of a growing season, but we're doing square foot gardening, container planting, and we've got a great little English-Style butterfly garden in what passes for our "yard". Keep it up Alex and Carrie!

I’m trying to plant also a plant that originates from a country that I’ve travelled to in the past that I can get here in the US ...for example-I’ve traveled to South Korea in the past and so I just planted a Camellia Sinensis that originates from Korea that I ordered from North Carolina-going to make my own tea! Great video. Thank you! I’ve started a lot of seeds with my sobrinos so we can have a veggie garden as a family project. Great life learning experience for the little ones. We can’t plant in ground in my area until after Mother’s Day. But I’m getting ready to create my garden beds in the yard and I really like your system. Did you buy those concrete corners or make them from a mold? I’ve got a good compost going and I can’t wait to start utilizing the beautiful soil coming from it. Just have to rummage my supplies and see what I have so I can make my list of what I need to buy. Going over to watch Carrie’s video now for more tips! 🙏🏼💜

Enjoyed your channel. One tip if you just pop cardboard over that grass then put your soil down it saves you so much back breaking work. The grass will break down fast anyway and provide a great green manure as a bonus. Putting branches and twigs onto of the cardboard if you have pruning around the garden is a great way to get rid of them. Will keep the garden moisture up and break down to beautiful soil. Thank you for sharing. Your gardening is growing beautifully. Well done.

Good video some ppl don’t know a lot of gardening. I use Epsom salts a magnesium mineral, and put it all around the edges of the garden plants etc as snails slugs creepy crawl ya hate it and when they slide over it their body’s burst out as it’s to much for them to digest and dried them up.marigolds next to tomatoes as they repel worms on tomatoes. Try yellow pear tomatoes it’s like candy. Put Mulch down for weeds.if your soil is hard use some peat moss or vermiculite. You can mark your garden with wooden spoons labeled in the spoon for the name. Hang chimes nearby to scare away squirrels birds etc As the world charges more for herbs and basic 🍅 🌶 vegetables 🌽 and this virus that makes it hard to get what you want when you go into the store, we should grow like farmers do our own food. It’s called survival or homesteading in the modern world. It’s a skill indeed and beneficial to have real food. If it isn’t grown or killed like fish salmon chicken then it’s not real food. Pasta is not real however quinoa and rice is. So we all need to be in tune with our self and earth and make us be the way it should be.i agree health is happy and nature is us. No one ever has had time nor thought of it. Basil is very important in spaghetti sauces salads and Tom yum soup why pay $3. For a sprig.for starters when you see things grow you get a spunk inside like you can live off the land.

A big back yard, LMAO I got a place with 55 acres, so big I have a hard time maintaining it. I garden to eat the best food possible. I never thought eggs would be a dollar each. I'm going to expand my garden areas, I like to eat. If I grow too much I can just give it away, or store it. I own a goat farm, I grow in compost only. I like the build, those concrete pieces. I use a concrete mixer to help compost that type of compost with grass in it. We call those June bug larva, and they are very destructive (.Chichen feed). Compost all paper products, all food waste, worms love it. I would never buy compost again. raised beds means less digging, and a place for compost

@@AlexanderAyling Like 20 years ago I fenced it for the goat herd. Being Arizona there is no rust issues with the fence. I run like 40 goats to keep the fire hazards extremely low. That's really the only reason I keep them. They about break even dollar wise cost about $3,000 US to to feed them in the winter time. I'm expanding my garden areas . I'm using above ground swimming pools for fish and garden areas. I'll watch your videos, being retired it gives me something to do.

The part you called the most labor intensive, you didn't even have to do. All you had to do was mow your grass really low, Place broken down cardboard boxes into your bed, then add compost on top. Cardboard will kill remaining grass before it breaks down by feeding the earthworms. Do this during Winter and your garden bed will be ready for planting by Spring time.

Tip one.. dont dig out the grass, just cover it with a dark tarp for about 3 or 4 weeks.. it'll die off, and leave it's organic matter behind for enrichment of the plants that follow

You can totally grow tomatoes and herbs plus spring onion and many others in small pots in an apartment. Do you have any windows? Get some window hanging garden beds

You can grow almost anything in pots with either lamps or by a sunny window! I've got lemons, an oak tree, and now an apple tree growing by my back door under a lamp. And before I plant my garden I start almost all my seeds inside. Don't despair! There's a way for everyone to garden

You should never use pressure treated stained wood for food garden beds. I wouldn’t use miracle grow soil either. There are so many organic soils out there.

The chemicals in that pressure treated wood will get into the soil and eventually into the root system of your plants. It is longer lasting but you should consider replacing it with cedar or something untreated

Hi, is the treated wood used for the raised bed safe for plants especially vegetables, any chance of contamination from the chemicals used to treat the wood?

I'm always amazed by areas that do not have to surround their gardens with chicken fencing to keep the rabbits out. There is no way my garden could grow if I didn't fence it in to protect it!

Where do you live? We are in an urban area so I imagine there’s not a lot of open ground for them to live. Birds seem to be a bigger potential issue for us though we haven’t had any problems yet.

Hey bud, love the content! Quick question, what are your thoughts on buying more earthworms at a fishing store to add them into the soil?

Increase the health of your soil (by adding compost and mulch) and you'll have an abundance of worms without buying any.

Do you guys have problems with Lanka digging in the veggie garden??
@AlexanderAyling
@AlexanderAyling 4 жыл бұрын
Not really. When we built the garden we were very alert about it and always discourage him when we approaches or sniffs at the garden. We caught him in there before and put him on time out. He learned to stay away. Also the spiky white fence helps discourage him going in.
