Let's go over some easily avoidable web design mistakes.

These are a dead giveaway that you are a novice as I only ever see these mistakes made by people who are new to the space.
About a month ago, we challenged our Instagram audience to design one homepage hero section per day for 30 days. The twist: They had to use the Unsplash Figma plugin to generate a random image to design around.
With hundreds of participants and thousands of designs with the hashtag #30DaysOfWebDesign, we can definitely say that the challenge has been a great success.
Though, as I was browsing the challenge hashtag to admire the work, I noticed some novice web design mistakes that I thought would be helpful to go over in a video.
The challenge: bit.ly/2OrS6mx
The submissions: bit.ly/3vqRu11

5:55 Poor alignment & balance

A week ago, I began my web design journey. I was a content writer and copywriter for a long time, and I was given the opportunity to learn web design using Divi. Although you talk more about Webflow, I find your content very informative and straight to the point. It is a valuable resource for web design newbies like myself. Keep it coming Ran. HARD DISAGREE on #1! Nobody puts anything in full screen anymore. I would say, if anything, 10% is too small (but the button size shouldn't be proportional to the whole screen anyway, it should be a fixed size). People have multiple monitors, each with multiple windows open, constantly, and sit far back from them. I am ALWAYS (literally, ALWAYS) having to zoom in on modern webpages because of how tiny everything is nowadays. Even as I type this comment, I'm zoomed in on Chrome to like 250%.

Incorrect, this is a minority issue. A majority of web users (if we stick to desktop) are using a full screen window. Usually on a laptop. This is a you issue i’m afraid
@grafzeppelin4069
@grafzeppelin4069 Жыл бұрын
@@biferose158 You're just lying to yourself to justify bad design. Everyone I know constantly keeps multiple windows open at significantly less than full screen. Think about it logically - if you're on a laptop, that's even more reason to have multiple windows open in parallel. What you're saying literally makes no sense. Plus, you literally just contradicted yourself - "A majority of web users (if we stick to desktop) are using a full screen window. Usually on a laptop." So are they on desktop or laptop? I'm willing to believe that a majority OF DESKTOP USERS use larger windows, because you have more screen real estate and/or multiple monitors.

@@grafzeppelin4069 people you may know is not an appropriate sample size for web users in general. Not forgetting web designers and agacent are more likely to adopt this workflow, but that is KYC. If you are making a website for web developers, it’s a consideration. But also irrelevant. Regardless of whether or not web as a whole is not comprised of people splitting screens 24/7. The general baseline we build to is a fullscreen window with responsive resizing. So it should still not be overwhelming in fullscreen - the reason you get smaller text when windowing is because fullscreen is a baseline and “portable” screen sizes are closer to your face and smaller. So when you reduce your window it reacts in the same way as for a smaller device. Depending on the exact report, the approximate amount of website traffic is +/- 60% I would argue that constitutes a much more statistically sound basis of what is common than simply - “people I know” Expecting the entire of web design to be built around your less common use-case is naïveté.
@grafzeppelin4069
@grafzeppelin4069 Жыл бұрын
@@biferose158 "people you may know is not an appropriate sample size for web users in general." But you're not understanding it. ZERO people I know use fullscreen. Therefore, you claiming that "a majority" use fullscreen is simply statistically impossible. You're just lying for convenience at this point. I literally just switched from windowed to full screen and ZERO text changed size on any website I have open. It's all still illegibly tiny. The matter of fact is that you design websites poorly because it's what YOU want, and you don't care about user satisfaction. This has been a constant and growing issue for a decade plus.

@@grafzeppelin4069 mkay, So 18% of people are cross eye dominant. Yet both me and my girlfriend are cross eyed dominant. Which from that sample, we would deduce 100% of people are cross eyed dominant - do you see the issue? You are seemingly mixing statistics with sample probabilities. In this case everyone i know uses full screen on 1-2 screens- which one of us is right based on this information?
