Insta360 introduced the Insta360 GO 3, which comes with a variety of improvements and amazing functions like the FreeFrame video feature! Now you can record a video and adjust everything later! Check out my 5 creative Insta360 GO 3 FreeFrame video tricks and get inspired.
1. FreeFrame POV Shots
The ability to create FreeFrame videos is the most powerful feature of the new Insta360 GO 3 in my opinion! FreeFrame videos allow you to adjust everything in post-processing the way you like it best. You have the free choice of the stabilization type, the field of view, the aspect ratio, and the image section, where you can determine the pan, tilt, and rotation movement yourself. And all of this can be flexibly adjusted with keyframes. Now you can decide in post-production, how the final video will look like. This way you get the most out of your Insta360 GO 3 Shots!
FreeFrame videos are very useful especially for POV videos and the Insta360 GO 3 is perfect for POV shots. Simply use the Magnetic pendent to mount your Insta360 GO 3 on your body. What's also really helpful is the new Insta360 GO 3 Action Pod. The Action Pod has a display where you see the live images of the Insta360 GO 3. This allows you to set up the GO 3 perfectly for your POV shots. When everything is set up, create your POV shots. In post-processing you can now simply adjust the image section. This is extremely helpful to get the best and desired POV image section. You can also push the whole thing further and create dynamic POV shots with keyframes. For example, that you tilt from the bottom to the top to reveal the environment!
2. FreeFrame Rotation Shots
Rotation Shots are a simple but effective way to add dynamic to your videos. Here again we take the advantage of FreeFrame videos. In postprocessing you can simply add a rotation movement with keyframes. Here is an example. I simply took a low ground shot above a puddle of water. In post-processing, I then added a 180° rotation with Insta360 Studio. This creates a completely new, dynamic Shot. Optionally, only a slight rotational movement can be added.
3. Location change Transition
Some of the viewers will already know this transition, as it can also be created with an Insta360 360-camera. But it is also perfect for the Insta360 GO 3. Create a Shot where a person walks in front or next to you. Then pass this person very close. Create a second Shot where you are very close to the person at the beginning and then move away. With the Freeframe video function, the image section can be customized. If you now cut both sequences where you are very close to the object, you will get the “Location change” Transition.
4. Water Transition
For the water transition, 3 useful functions of the Insta360 GO 3 are combined together.
- Waterproof Design: The Insta360 GO 3 is waterproof up to 5m and therefore underwater shots are no problem.
- 360-horizion-lock:
In the Freeframe video mode, the 360-horizon lock is automatically activated. This means that you can simply move the Insta360 GO 3 upwards with an extended selfie stick and the horizon remains straight.
- Rotation:
Adding a rotation movement using keyframes in the FreeFrame video mode, enables the full creative scope!
For the Water Transition, simply mount the Insta360 GO 3 on a selfie stick and extend it. Then create a shot where you move the Insta360 GO 3 slowly from top to bottom and dive underwater. Do the same thing in another place, but this time start underwater.
You can add the rotation movements in the same way as with the Rotation shots, as I showed you before in Insta360 Studio or the Insta360 App. No matter if you perform the water transition with or without the rotation, it is simply impressive!
5. FreeFrame Timelapse
With the FreeFrame video feature it is also possible to add a slight movements to your timelapses. Just record a timelapse with the Insta360 GO 3 timelapse mode and reframe it later in Insta360 Studio. The reframing possibilities are limited, but even a slight movement makes your timelapses much more dynamic. Here's a gimbal guru tip: To achieve smooth results, enable motion blur.
