Your "fix-it" videos/tutorials are so clever...and easy/simple. I think the "turn your work like the pages of a book" is my new mantra 🤗. I don't often struggle with this, but occasionally my mind says "oh, wait, which way am I going with this?" Usually happens when I'm watching something on TV and I've lost my focus momentarily 😉( I have done the frog out a few rows and skip a stitch every so often...has saved a few projects. ) Thank you for another video of great tips. Have a lovely day. 🌞

About the mismatched pairs: I had an Aunt who knitted & when she made socks she used either very long needles or the ones attached with a cable. Then she actually knitted both socks at the same time on the same needle. She used the same skein/ball for both with a long thread attaching them at the beginning. It was so funny watching her do that but she always ended up with a perfectly matched set. 😅
@TuulaMaaria

That sounds like looping sock on a circular needle. That is a popular technique, although when I have seen it, it has always been from two separate balls.

Love your suggestions for losing at Yarn Chicken. I've always backed stitches out & crocheted tighter. I never thought to use a smaller hook, frog 3 rows & leave 1 row out or alter the actual stitch itself. Great suggestions. Thanks so much.

Another timely & informative video! I just finished a queen sized blanket and was playing yarn chicken so your tip of decreasing random number of stitches was great and eased my mind, I was able to finish the border! Would it be possible Miss Tuula, to do an in depth video on doing different corners? Square vs round and how many stitches to use for sc,hdbl,dbl etc and where exactly does the corner begin & exactly where to put corner stitches? Also I often struggle with finding the beginning of the yarn from the inside a new skein, any tips on that? I end up wasting so much time unraveling from the outside which isn't really convenient. Thank you for another great video, I always learn something new and you have given me the confidence to try new projects and techniques 😊

Just a suggestion on the centre pull issue...we all have that problem unfortunately. One way to help is buy a Yarn Ball Winder. Now you will still have to find the centre pull & deal with a bit of yarn barff . However, by winding your skein into a cake would allow you to leave a length of yarn for the centre pull as long as you want plus allows you to inspect the yarn while winding it for knots or inconsistencies. I also saw the other day, some companies are now leaving a tail from the center & attaching a paper sticker to the end. Genius & I wish all Yarn Manufacturers did this. Good Luck & I hope this helps you.

They come in various price ranges. Mine is a Knitters's Pride Signature which is expensive at $175 Cnd. It was a 60th birthday present from my Mother & Siblings. I do highly recommend this one as it is so smooth. If you search Jayda In Stitches, she bought one & did a unboxing video that shows you how to set it up & how beautifully it glides. If that price point is too high for you, search Amazon, Michael's or Walmart. You should be able to find one from $30 Cnd & up. I would suggest you read up on the model you are looking at because you want to ensure you buy one that can hold larger skeins to avoid making numerous smaller skeins. I'm sorry I can't recommend a specific brand for you on the lower priced ones because I don't own one but I believe Mikey Sellick from the Crowd Crowd did a video them. Perhaps KZfaq or Google could assist you in your search as well. Good Luck!

@@Pakrs61. I got a plastic ball winder from KnitPicks. It works fine, but it’s not very durable. A little piece of plastic broke off where you snap the metal yarn guide in, after not that much use. It may partly be because of my clumsy arthritic hands. I can still use it - I use my hand to direct the yarn into the metal guide, anyway- but if I could afford it, I would get something that’s not so flimsy.

I’ve been wondering if it makes any difference when you finish a row, whether you chain then turn or turn and then chain.
@TuulaMaaria
@TuulaMaaria Ай бұрын
I would say that it doesn't make a difference if you turn "like a book" but if you turn the other way round, then it is important to chain first, to avoid having the yarn in front of your work and having to move it to position for the next stitch.

I was making a blanket from even squares, and before the last one, both yarns I was using went out of stock, EVERYWHERE T_T Then, as you mentioned tension, the lightbulb came to my brain...I can actually redo the blanket (pretty small too) so it can be a table cover- my cat sleeps on it anyway, so won't be such a big change at all for my original plan, still be useful, and I won't be frustrated by looking at all the time. Hi, Tuula I got a tip-hack when it comes to weaving in Chenille yarn. Once you've cut the yarn you'll notice loose Chenille fibers, coming off from the end you cut. You will see a white thread this is the thread you'll weave in,this way is better N easier for you it won't come undone nor fray at all!. Hopefully someone will try it or maybe someone has already tried this method N works for them too.. This is what they use to hold the Chenille yarn together,This why it frays some much also... What would you say to someone; who wants to rip out; instead of fix just the issue. I avoid the rip as much as possible. Some people think that is wrong to fix; that we must rip. lol that the project must be redone at every mistake.
@debitopia

I find frogging back isn't always practical. I want everything perfect though so I try to be clever about fixing mistakes that I find too late. Be gentle with yourself. 🥰So what if there's a little mistake? We're not machines after all. And we should enjoy creating which is hard to do if we set our expectations for perfection and we worry about others' criticism. I used to rip out every mistake but it took forever to finish a project and it became a chore. I didn't enjoy that. I reframed my expectations and now it's fun again. 😍
@TuulaMaaria
@TuulaMaaria Ай бұрын
I suppose it depends on one's personality. I don't mind small mistakes as long as they don't show much.I would find ripping out because of a small mistake to be a terrible waste of time. Often mistakes can also be fixed by sewing, like making a stitch look different by sewing something with the same yarn.
