I am Canadian and I am so embarrassed by the state of our railway system. I live in Calgary and have often wanted to take the Canadian Express across the country, but refuse to pay the riduculous price for such poor accomodations. This is why I love to watch your videos. Japan has a far better system then those here in North America and certainly Canada. However, I am so glad you decided to come to Canada. We have such a beautiful country and I am proud to say that I live here. Thanks for sharing. ❤

I was calculating the price of The Canadian trip ticket and if we compare it with the first class room of the Sunrise Express in Japan they are quite similar (It should also be added that in the sleeper class of The Canadian it includes meals, while in the Sunrise Express it does not ) In addition, the distance of the trip is four times longer than the trips through Japan. What if I agree with you is the poor infrastructure that exists for passenger train travel in Canada, unlike in Japan (Well, that also happens in the US and other countries in America)

Anyone can make a silent travel video but you have a special flair for actually making it extremely interesting and entertaining. Your sense of humor is such a breath of fresh air on these types of videos. It’s a stark contrast the upper class railway system in Japan versus Canada and probably the US as well. I was excited to see that you are traveling to other parts of the world to do train travel, it was very interesting can’t wait to watch part two. Bon Apple tea❤

Well, come on! I prefer the Canadian train. On a Japanese train, you pee on yourself until you reach the toilet. And the food... you end up brushing only one tooth, because you don't need to brush all of them. Canadian soup is 1000 times better than Japanese fish soup, which tastes like dishwashing liquid. Not to mention the dimensions of a cabin in a Japanese train. It's for Lilliputians. Everything is done economically, not to be comfortable for people.

Unfortunately, U.S. and Canadian passenger trains are not kept up like Japanese passenger trains. I am glad to see you get to travel outside Japan for an extended train ride. Many passenger trains in the U.S. and Canada share the rails with freight trains, so there are many delays. Sorry, you didn't do well in BINGO.

On the one hand I appreciate the idea of a toilet you don’t have to walk down the corridor to use in the middle of the night. On the other hand it is stuck under the bed so the time when you probably really don’t want to traverse the train in robe & slippers it isn’t easily accessible. 🤔

Well there was also the one outside the compartment as well, opposite the shower wasn't there? I feel like I would use the one not in the compartment mostly. Mainly because without any form of other entertainment (TV or otherwise) in the compartment I would probably never put the bed away and would instead spend my days in the observation lounge.

@@psozak408 Indeed. A bathroom like the one in the room that was highest quality (was that deluxe or something?) with it's own separate area without leaving the compartment would be ideal but comes with the higher price. Your video tells a true story of the experience, although I do not remember our train having any bingo games or Yoga exercises. Since Prestige class includes all your alcoholic drinks in your ticket price, I did manage to drink the 10 cocktails you must try before you die. Great job with the editing. We took the trip this past April and you have "captured" the essence of the trip. Thanks for reminding me of the various meals - they were all delicious. We paid the ridiculous price to be in Prestige, but it was a once in a lifetime experience (I'm 75). The most scenic section was through the Rockies so in 2 weeks I'm going Economy from Vancouver to Edmonton (#2) then waiting a few hours to get on the Edmonton to Vancouver (#1) train in a Lower Berth. Curious to see how that works out. For those who complain about the state of our rail system take a ride on an Egyptian or Thailand train - ours are luxurious. Don't eat the food on an Egyptian train! We were both sick by the time we got to Aswan.

👍🏻 Hmm... With such food, gaining 2-3 kg in 5 days is easy! 😄 And no yoga will help. A wagon with a panoramic roof - just class! 👍🏻

Some notes about the cars on the Canadian: These cars are old - many in their 60s some even 70 years old - and built by the Budd Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a company which went out of business by the mid-1980s. Most are inherited by VIA from the two Canadian railroads - Canadian Pacific and Canadian National- while some were acquired secondhand from American railroads as they abandoned passenger operations in the 1970s. And then there's the dome cars. A common feature of American and Canadian passenger operations in the 1950s and 1960s, these were designed to give passengers a panoramic view of the route, especially as it passes the big national parks along the route. On the Canadian (this originally was the old flagship train of the Canadian Pacific Railway; its Canadian National Railways counterpart is the Confederation Limited), this would have passed through Banff and Jasper National Parks.

I’ve driven across Canada the way the train took you so have never wanted to take the train the same way - however I very much want to take the train thru the Rockies to the west coast / Vancouver - sorry the train wasn’t as modern and comfortable as the trains you’re used to - the food looked pretty ordinary / uninspiring - thnx for being brave enough to do something most Canadians don’t and for taking us with you 🙏🇨🇦😷
