I work as a prison guard in Indonesia. Silat and Aikido save my life 4 time in my line of work and make me return to my famly everyday safely.

That was really educational. I initially studied traditional Aikido and was taught only defensive type moves, which is what I desired. It's always very interesting to see the adaptations that can be made to take that training to a different level if necessary. Further still, this proves that although Aikido is mostly a 'soft' art, those that put down Aikido as being weak and ineffective clearly do not understand the true hidden power that it provides.

Bwahahhaha it’s funny you guys actually believe this shit I will put my self agonist any of your blackbelts like I’m going to run at you lmao I get it though I thought Steven was a bad ass when I was growing up then I was introduced to other martial arts and found out the effectiveness of modern age martial arts spooked to the ancient art forms that’s exactly what this is it’s art . It’s not fighting.

The techniques in Alkido are 20, maximum 30 ...no more... everything else are variations - ojo waza and henka waza. The big master can fluently goes through the techniques, from one to another.

A very good reminder. I took aikido when I was in my 30's here in Baguio City, Philippines. Unfortunately, i stopped when my Sensei went to Japan. I only reached blue belt. I am now 61 years old and I exetcise every morning using the aikido moves which is my remembrance to this noble martial art. I still have my Ki No Ken Kyukai Tokyo lifetime membership ID. Thanks. .

In martial arts you must apply the appropriate technique to the situation in which you find yourself, and above all the objective is to immobilize your opponent and not to kill him

Sensi please explain to students that to engage in defense against firearms takes 100 percent commitment same as edged weapons. You are a great teacher and I know that time is limited in the videos. It is those who study online that explained to them most as I am certain your DoJo pupils are taught.

some good basic movements. 2:36 with the knife, i wouldn't recommend going into the attackers centre with a knife attack. with small weapons the principle Sugano taught us was to increase the distance, again. Small weapons are hidden and concealed, they will not be used as a Ski, although this is a tecnhnique so fine for demonstrating. You want to double the distance between you and the attacker for knifes. Larger weapons you would make this distance smaller. Move off the line, as you did which was good timing, then you want to keep the knife as far away from you as possible so i would face the same way as the attacker and lead/extend through the arm. Knifes are hard to defend against in any style as they are unpredictable, basically unless you know what you are doing, i would run.

How bout some Aikido specific cardio exercises. I get worn out the fastest in my dojo, going only maybe 6 throws as Uke before I'm using my hands to push myself off the ground and slowing down significantly. I've started using the treadmill at the gym but perhaps there's exercises I can do on non-training days to help my Uke stamina.
