Having poor vision of what's happening around them. Either it's from using one screen and not learn where your car is or it's from just not setting it up properly ( FOV, experimenting with the in game mirror FOV, not using buttons for left and right looking). Ive had so many races come to an end because of this. When you are side by side through a tight section of the track or up right beside them before a brakepoint and people just turn into you because of not having enough vision. When you set it up correctly and practice using looking to the sides with buttons, it becomes second nature and incidents are avoided.

I would say overdriving the car in general, to late on the brakes, to earley and aggressive on the throttle. They need more practice, knowledge, and how to apply it. Basically they need to watch all your videos and then apply them to their racing.

Good tips! Another very common rookie mistake: over-defending against much faster opponents early in the race. If both drivers are experienced, they might have a race long battle (albeit while loosing a lot of time). However, if one or both drivers are inexperienced, the end result is either that the faster driver makes the pass or a wreck. You need to learn to pick your fights, knowing when to defend and when it’s better to simply yield, to avoid unnecessary risks and loss of time.

I wouldn’t consider myself a beginner when I joined iracing but something I learned really quickly from my time in rookies is don’t try to overtake a person who is aggressively defending. They are most likely going to be as aggressive in every aspect and chances are they will take you out of the race. Bank the position you have or wait for a following driver to pass you and try to pass the aggressive defender and wait for mistakes. This not only saves your safety rating but also disappointment/anger as many times you report a driver for this and nothing is done,”racing incident” by stewards all while you had your race ended and SR ruined.
@rarewhiteape

Another good point to make about being passed is to recognise when the driver passing you is faster, and that they may be able to drag you up to the next cars if you just follow them, stay in their slipstream, and drive cleanly. I had that happen to me in the GT3 Challenge last week at Road Atlanta. A car passed me mid-way though the race. They didn’t qualify to started at the back, but were obviously fast enough to catch me, so I let them have the spot. Five laps later I was on that car’s tail when it passed another car and they made contact and spun, so I ended up gaining two spots! Easy fourth place for me.

key to not over driving the car is to limit input smooth is fast some of my best laps felt slow as hell. learn to set up the car for the corner brake in s straight line and roll into the corner then accelerate out. also dont try and defend in rookies if you dont know how to do it. your not only going to make yourself slower but your likely going to cause a wreck and potential find yourself on a nice vacation from the subscription. learn the car the series and the track before you even think about competitive racing. IR should be a consistent 1500 + before you even consider it. anything lower then that just focus on running clean and getting decent finishes. as soon as your confident and in a decent split with other competent driver then you can get to racing. too many guys view rookies wrong and want to win it all end up wrecking every race destroy IR and SR and never get passed D class. for me i was A with 2k IR before i started actually racing.

2 more from me: 1. Being in the wrong gear. Newbies often feel like they need to be in the highest revs when exiting, when actually, you can cost yourself speed/time with a gear change (especially with the rookie cars with small power) you need to carry as much speed through the apex and out of the exit as possible. 2. Only using steering to turn the car - this was a game changer for me. Understand where the grip limit is and start to use controlled amount of brake and throttle rotate/slide the car whilst keeping it stable. This way you can get the car turned in with less braking and get on the throttle early. You can also use small amounts of lift off oversteer to the same effect

I have a question are the braking points on the iracing race line optimal?
@Kultivater
@Kultivater 2 жыл бұрын
Another thing that needs to be pointed out(and should be obvious to anyone who has any business on a race track) is that when someone has come alongside you, that means you hold your current line. Too often do I see idiots continuing the normal racing line, going for apexes when they have someone driving beside them, and knocking them both out of the race because they don't grasp the concept of overtaking. If someone is beside you, and is clearly faster, and you're coming up on a corner, you need to back the fuck off and let them through. Do unto others is a crucial rule in racecraft. If you don't respect those overtaking you, and give them the proper amount of room, then don't expect anyone to give you any. In fact, play another game.

Isn't it better to go off throttle a second before braking for longitudinal weight-transfer to the front? In iRacing it seems mandatory like in other titles and if you go on the brakes just after throttle-release the braking-performance is horrible in many cars. How is it in real racecars?

In our Sim Training programs, we noticed a lot of drivers (way more than you would think) are accidentally "always somewhat on the brakes". We're talking 1%-2% brake pressure. So our instructors always check students' pedal dead zones to ensure they are not riding the brakes or throttle. Hope that helps!

About defending, a lot of times I’ll be defending by holding the inside line and sweeping through corners to block off attack and the person behind me will spin. Is this my problem or are they being too aggressive? Also sometimes when I’m behind people attacking them I won’t make contact but they’ll go wide on a turn or spin By sometimes I mean a noticeable amount of times

Idk of this is just a me thing, but im breaking too early, im finding myself playing it too safe and having a hard time finding the limit of the car. I would consider myself "safe" as a new iRacer, but its a drag being the slowest guy on the track. Also wider turns that demand a downshift mid turn, my rear end breaks out on me, ive tried coasting in 4th skipping the down shift also getting my shift out early berore the apex, enter the turn balanced, but thats costing me so much time. Driving fast is SO MUCH HARDER then I thought it was going to be. Im terrible at it. Takes every bit of tenacity I can muster not to give up. My competitive spirit wears thin.

The demoralizing effect that these have is when you are doing all of the things right, none of these are news to me.. and i've even had private lessons in simracing and i'm still 1.2secs behind the top. I don't get it, how people can brake so late and still make the turn. I'm close to 10 000 hour mark.. My racing craft is excellent, if i say so myself but statistics also agree. I am wicked quick at corner exits and i have good apex speed, my car is more balanced than the competition when it matters, i don't hop the curbs, don't push understeer and have fairly over steering setup preference. And i'm still 1.2 secs behind.

But yeah learn how to brake an pull off first before jumping into races...... Its a pretty simple concept that can be complicated, No 2 corners are the same in a tight bunch of cars during a race, If you think about it can sim racing be a form of brain exercise??
