Here's the previous video (about creating a budget): • Creating a Budget
This is Step 2 of "basic/minimalist finances" for beginners!
Here are the 5 ways I talk about:
1 - automate everything
2 - address subscription services
3 - address lifestyle expenses
4 - address social expenses
5 - unsubscribe from emails and social media that makes you want to buy things

In my opinion, if someone shares their streaming service with you, you should voluntarily contribute to the cost.

Grocery pickup/delivery is THE most luxurious form of self care out there. Not having to squeeze a giant metal basket between people for hours? Ugh. Effin spectacular.

Agree, also $100 worth of groceries is heavy to bag and to drag home. I have no car. Having groceries delivered is well worth the membership. I also tip.

I love doing the cash envelope system it really helps when you physically have to hand over the money verses just swiping my debit card.

I prefer getting rewards money from my Visa card. Also, don't want to carry cash due to possibly of being robbed. It's crazy out there.

If you have an electric hot water system (especially a smaller one) try this! When you go to bed turn it off from the fues box so your not keeping water hot for all those hours that your not using it! In the morning I get up and I have coffee and I also turn the hot water back on.... it's amazing and it looks as though I might save about $100 per month (with smaller systems it only takes about 20 minutes to heat up)! Oh one of the great things about cats is that they hate showering, and they are self cleaning! So cat's don't cost much, Lefie - have I ever told you that I thought you should get a cat?! :-)

I found that tracking my expenses manually and not automatically gives me a better understanding of what I'm spending my money on. For example, I set a budget of €150 per month for eating out or getting food delivered, and the one month I didn't track my expenses, I went WAY over the budget.

When I was 19, as a high school senior I had a part time weekend job that paid me $35 a week. I went to the bank every week and deposited that money. I never had money before. At the end of a year, I had almost 1k saved up for college tuition. It was very motivating and satisfying.

I shopped around on my phone plan. I got more for 1/2 what I was paying. So that extra money went into upgrading myself to a new used phone. My old phone was 5 years old and I wanted a new one. Unfortunately I smashed it like 3 months later. That repair bill hurt.

Can't grasp how anyone likes to live in such a bare apartment. I get, that you like the white/grey/black backbone. But nothing is added. Not even photography in the same non-colors. This is what my husband picked, since he is colorblind. He was afraid he would make mistakes (and indeed he did make some very funny ones). But now color and warm wood surrounds us and some, mainly faux, plants. Looks like a home, instead of a place to sleep. Can recommend it.

The best way to save money is use cash and to never think about money, but instead question the need for expenditure when expense is required. This will make you tight... Just keep being tight! Its that simple.
@bleh329
@bleh329 3 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't call it the best. Maybe the best that works for you. Cash in my hands is quickly gone. This is why a video like this, that's considerate and takes different people and lifestyles into account, is always better than the "this is the one and only solution for all" approach.
@terencebarnett9891
@terencebarnett9891 3 жыл бұрын
@@bleh329 cash in the hand is a physical way of making a transaction. If trying to save you are conscious of the transaction in a more objective way. Transfering 200 pounds/dollars is no different to transfering 20 pounds/dollars when using the card (with exception of the physiological aspect). Handing 200 in cash is clearly differnt to handing over 20. Try to use cash and be tight with it as best you can... Trust me it's the best method to saving. With savings money, it depreciates over time... So saving money is pointless if inflation can't be met inline with by the banks. So then you need to think about how to invest in items or other assets that will generate a return. Good video. Always good to discuss the subject. When it comes to money though, the theory is always straight forward when the reality is different. This is because of the 'impulsive' nature of human beings. Last year I bought an original signed poster for 100pounds. Recently seen another from the same band signing up for sale for 10,000 pounds. Better I spent that 100 hundred than saved it in the bank.

@@terencebarnett9891 what? Cash is physical?? My goodness, Terry, why didn't you say so sooner? You mean to tell me that the dollar bills I can physically hold in my hand are physical?! 😲 Honey, what works for you doesn't work for everyone. Deal with it.

It may be an unpopular opinion here but I would urge people to pay for their own subscriptions. I know people like to get things for free or "stick it to the man" by sharing credentials but there are real people at the end of the day making a living at those companies.
@bleh329
@bleh329 3 жыл бұрын
Hm. No. There are too many. They are too expensive. It's inconvenient. And many Americans are wasting hundreds of dollars on subscriptions every year that they don't even remember they have. Which is actually the purpose of these subscriptions. Pile on so many people are eventually paying for nothing. Like how companies hope you'll never use those last few bucks on that gift card. So, no. I'll leave ... intelligent peoples like yourself to bail out the poor, poor subscription corporations.
@Marczking
@Marczking 3 жыл бұрын
the streaming services are the middle men, so if you're really worried about artists urge people to support them directly, either via direct downloads (like Bandcamp for musicians) or by signing up to patreons of people they like. Or donations, or merch even. Or by going to shows, festivals, etc. Currently not an option a lot of places, but just saying that streaming doesn't equate to actual support. Look into how Spotify distributes the payouts and you'll realise it's not in the interest of the general artists, but rather in large labels and mainstream artists.
