Here it is! 5 easy Ways to use Vicki Boutin Art Crayons! They are water-soluble and can be used wet or dry! This video outlines the basic properties of the Art Crayons and will show you how to get started!
This is a great way to to see Art Crayons in action for the first time or use it as a refresher if you are already using the crayons in your Artful endeavours!

The art crayons, your stencil brushes, and stencils were my first drink of the kool aid. I am still a beginner, I have gotten some glazes and mists now too. I don't think I am wonderful at it but I sure do enjoy playing and have made a pretty nifty background or two.

I only have sets 2 and 3, but I'm still going to try this. I have several sets of the TH crayons so I'll also try and find out how well they combine...may not work, but I'll never know if I don't try. I really hope they play well together, just think of all the color combinations!! 😃😀

Thank you for your generosity and inspiration! I have learned A LOT from watching your videos! It’s hard to pick a favorite from all of your products. I do have a question about the stamps...I imagine the stickiness decreases over time? Besides keeping them attached to their packaging is there anything to extend the life or something to add to the backs? When I add any water mine slip around on my stamping block...??

Aleene's Tack it Over and Over glue will help...or double sided tape used for mounting rubber stamps. Clen the stamps well and side not....the water makes most stamps slide around. Dry the block and stamp and remount. :)

I only gesso cardstock and only when I want the "technique" it offers.

I got some (kids water soluble) and they don’t blend well & can look grainy. They were hard on my hands & are these easier on your body??

These are great! How do you then clean your stencil brush or do you dedicate one brush to the crayons and another for inks, paint, etc.?

Hi Deborah! Great question!!! Super easy to clean! Wipe on a wet paper towel, or dip just the tip of the brush in water and then rub in a circular motion on a cloth of paper towel until it rubs clean and some of the dampness is removed. Roll the brush up in a paper towel (like a tube) and leave it to dry. (I re-use the rolled paper towel each time). I do have multiple brushes...but more for switching between colors and needing a dry brush...or...needing a "clean" brush. Hope this helps!

At the beginning of the video you said that we'd be surprised what can be done with the neutral set of crayons. In a future video can you show us how to best use this set, please? By the way, I'm loving these videos and find them easier to watch on KZfaq rather than Facebook.

Hey Vicki! I paint with acrylics and then use the art crayons as last touch color details and marks. But, I'm curious, what do you recommend to use for varnishing? They smudge and move when I do varnish. I know fixatif is an option, but curious how you do it.

I especially like technique #2. Effect looks exactly like as if you applied distress ink (?) to the edges. Now I need a stencil brush.

Hi Diane! There are many water-soluble crayons out there...they are all magical and do different things...Gelatos are much softer...you could try them with all of these techniques and see what kind of results you get. I own ALLLLL of the different types! LOL!

Hi Vicki, for technique #3, if I wanna write on top of the mixed media, which pen / marker do you recommend? Would a Sharpie permanent marker work? Thanks so much!! 😀

Hi Christy! Great question! A Sharpie or Paint Marker should work well. When they are mixed with water...most pens will work. Used dry...where there is more "crayon" the Sharpie. I would recommend creating test sheets to add to your mixed media "recipe" book and create a dilutes/water effect and write with different markers on top and create a second version with the "dry" technique.

Another tip: You can add Gesso or Any Acrylic medium make the crayons move or be opaque like Acrylic or Gouache. or add Acrylic glitter or iridescent medium for crazy effects.

Hi there! Water soluble crayons come in MANY forms and they all have different properties and can be used in various ways. Pencils are much harder...still water soluble (if they are intact water soluble pencil crayons) but they won't create all of the techniques I show here. I own ALLLLL of the things! LOL! and use them for different projects.

No, unfortunately. Art product have a shelf life...I have lots I forgot to use and had to throw away. :(

a layer of Matte Acrylic Gel...depending on the technique you use. Because the Gel is a liquid, it can lift the pigment. I use a brayer and clean it in-between "rolls"

Tami...are you referring to the "application" like the "kissing" technique? Or as the base beneath? If it is for applying the watercolour...you need flexibility. If it is for the stencil brush...either will work...but...it could scratch the glass.

I don't use them in a heavy enough way to worry about setting them, especially when mixed with water. You could use an oil pastel fixative if you needed to.
