This is a great list. The Aer and Evergoods bags are great. Not too fancy but not too out of place in a work environment.

Hello Bo, thank you for a great video! I am very happy with my Porter Yoshida Hybrid Daypack Rucksack 16L for my work EDC bag. However, a few days ago, I bought a Heimplanet Transit Line 28L based on one of your videos as my travel backpack and I am very happy with it! Keep making awesome videos Bo!

Great video, thank you for doing a wearing size comparison with all the bags on the screen at once - very helpful! Now if only I could decide between the PCL20 and the Aer CPP

Thank You very much. Both are great bags. For me I would choose the PLC20 because I prefer some less compartments. I use a lot of pouches so I rarely use admin panels like in the CPP

Thank you Bo for the excellent collection of bags, however as a smaller man and not needing to bring as much things daily, I am looking for a smaller bag around 15-18L, I wonder if there are any recommendation on the smaller side?

Interesting bag pack comparison. I learned by rain, roll-top bag packs protect their content best against getting wet, so my children use those. I like product testing & comparisons with a clear list of quality criteria comparable in a matrix/table: each criteria per row and each product in a column. Beside the cost, the size (volumn/L) often stress test (water protection) or longivity (force on material) is a criteria. Even YT product testers of cargo bicycles present their list of criterias per product video.

Get vid Bo! I’ve been super impressed by the latest version of the 26 litre Arcteryx Mantis backpack. Feels high quality, and has good pocket options without excess weight (sub 900g!). Currently being used as a baby bag, but would be an excellent work or EDC bag! Not perfect, but not too pricey compared with some of the competition (especially here in the U.K.).

Choices of materials, build quality.. yes these are aspects that make bags expensive. But they should not be THAT expensive, in my humble opinion. Tja und ansonsten, wie immer klasse Video von Dir!
@Youknowthebo
@Youknowthebo Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I get that from a consumer standpoint. As consumers we obviously have big brands (eg northface, Nike etc) as reference points or comparisons. So just by that baseline alone these bags sound very expensive. But that's probably also the "issue". This smaller brands have a totally different production volume. Once a big brand can produce in very big volumes, the cost of materials automatically get lower. That's just a simplification of course. But back when I bought my goruck gr0 to which I had to add about 150€ for shipping and custom fees, I justified this very expensive investment as follows: I just new that I would use the bag at least two years for work on every week day. So 480 days. If I spent 400€ for a bag, that's 0,83 cents per day. And compared to my phone, my MacBook or sneakers that is a very reasonable cost. Again: I totally get that these bags are very expensive. And getting something cheaper from a bigger brand is totally valid from a consumer's point of view. I just think from my perspective this money is justified and a good investment. I thank you for always watching and the fair comment

@@Youknowthebo Yes I know and I totally agree with you. Expensive yes, but not THAT expensive. Look at brands like M.I.S. Calf. or Recycled Firefighter. Thanks for your detailed response though. Much appreciated! Salam dari Bogor.

Expensive or not is subjective. But in the grand scheme of things, these bags are not that expensive really. People spent a lot more on useless trendy items, rather than on a bag that literally will serve you for decades. You can always find something cheaper, but at $100-$200 is really where the value is in the carry world in my opinion. I've tried bags from all price range, and the well known brands here are much more reliable and seamless with the buying experience and the usage of the bag itself.
@errydm
@errydm Жыл бұрын
@@microvizart Yeah, but everyone has their priorities. Like some people in a bag community collecting bags and they're rarely rotate them. But I basically I agree with you. And if you're talking $100-$200 I can accept that. I was thinking more like way North of $200.

I love how u transition from bags to bags! Another point, if i may add, on why it is so expensive, is the R&D which companies put into these bags. Imitations are cheap because they just rip off designs and save on the R&D portion. Thats why even thou imitations can seems improved and cheaper, i always support the original.

Very good point, mate 👍😉

True. But it also has a positive side to it. People who won't buy or cannot afford these "expensive" bags have at least bags by buying the imitations. I think this is similar with the fashion industry.

@@Youknowthebo Yes, shipping cost can sometimes be very expensive, but import taxes here for bags give you an extra dent to your wallet. It's around 55%. Goruck GR1 is priced at $325 now. So you're looking at approximately $485 from where I live!

Disagree about the Bryn Mill. Maybe it’s how it looks on video, but I think it looks terrible and cheap. Subjective, I know, but for an office situation with a suit there are way more classier options out there.

Hey BananaChipzzz - I’m Andrew, I’m one of the co-founders of Bryn Mill. Just wanted to pop in here. Totally respect your take, there are plenty of good bags out there and everyone’s tastes are different. Is there anything in particular about our bag that you think looks “terrible and cheap”? We’re always looking to improve and would appreciate your two cents. Also happy to answer any questions that you or anyone else has here in the comments.

@@andrewpurdy The fact that you answered a random comment here shows true class. I’m not keen on the leathery portions. Again, could be the lighting on camera, but it’s not my cup of tea. I have never bought anything from you folks, but based on this I will take a look!

@@andrewpurdy if I may just throw in my two cents here. I personally think the bag is well designed and material choices are also great. Components are well thought out. But what may give the impression of being “cheap” might be the choice of leather (shiny) and possibly also the size of the leather area. If the leather area is smaller it’ll probably look much better despite the shiny leather material. It should also improve the “flapping” back behaviour when opening the main compartment.
@dsego84
@dsego84 2 ай бұрын
Why are these bag expensive? It's a luxury item and there is a bunch of youtubers hyping them out of proportion, when the same quality materials can be found in bags for a third of the price. And if you tear them or snap a buckle, you still have money to buy a second one. All buckles fail and all fabrics tears eventually, so I doubt that the expense can be justified simply by better quality. You pay a premium for the brand name, a slightly more thought out design, and because a sub $100 backpack doesn't go well with the 2k macbook and 1k smartphone.

Several hundred Euros are not justified for a bag...I can't afford such a bag so easy. My budget is very tight. If I need to buy a backpack, I look at the cheap ones, due to my budget being low
@Youknowthebo
@Youknowthebo Жыл бұрын
Totally understandable. There are definitely cheaper bags with good quality. Bigger brands like Northface for instance have bigger production quantities and therefore usually can sell some good quality bags for lower prices. But I would recommend not to buy cheap bags from fashion brands if you plan on carrying a lot of heavy and expensive stuff like a computer for instance. One of the reasons why I became interested in bags was when a shoulder strap of a cheap bag tore and send my bag with my apple Powerbook flying to the ground. Fortunately it was on carpet floor, but my computer got still dented slightly
