My biggest struggle is after I give a fun prompt they just stand there looking at each other and don’t really try to do it or they over do it to the point where their expressions aren’t flattering. Lol

I am an hobbyist photographer, I do more landscape and some macro photography since it is so much more accessible for me but would like to lean more in to photographing people but need help with how to feel comfortable directing people who are not my family or close friends. All of my family or portrait photos are of my children while they were in high school or college and of my husband and most of them were done while they were fishing or working on a project and were not a posed session but more of storytelling style and I would love to learn more about family and portrait photography.

I like that your prompts are uncomplicated. Sometimes I ask people to have a straight back and then look directly back at the camera. It’s like we’re speaking different languages.

I like the pose where you tell the kids that mom and dad are going to sneak up behind you. I'm going to use that when I get my photo shoots started.

One of my favorite poses is a variation on your scare attack one. I have the parents sit and the kiddos do a sneak attack/tickle.

Agreed! These prompts are a little too female focused. My challenge comes with posing boys and keeping them happy while also creating some great images of them for parents.
