Fossils are a great way to learn about the animals that used to walk this earth but sometimes it seems as though we find these animals in the fossils still alive today. The term living fossil has been heavily criticized over the past few years as it can be misleading. There are quite a few animals alive today that look very similar to fossilized animals but they are not the same species and they have undergone millions of years of evolution. In today's video i will be taking a look at a few groups of animals that were believed to be extinct before they were found alive and well in the wild.

When I was younger, I believed that Lungfish were an Extinct species because the first time I ever saw one was in the first episode of Walking with Dinosaurs.

I remember reading a paper a while back (I think it was by Steve Brusatte) that described crocodiles as "morphologically conservative". Something akin to that could be used instead of living fossil. Great video as always, Tsuki

That clam is common here in our shores, as a kid I would always go rock flipping in tide pools. That clam is white, small, and if submerged it got its mantle covered around its shell and would cling under rocks.

8:20 the Arnie should’ve definitely been on this list; we don’t know it, but he secretly has been walking the either since the primordial days and has caused several minor and major mass extinctions……

Suggestion: Video about Lifeforms that were brought back to Life (but with a less clickbaity Title lol. Just didn't know what else to call it) There are for Example at least 3 Species that survived in Permafrost. Pithovirus, a Pleistocene Version of some Flower and a Species of Worm

Yet another reason to stop trawling the oceans and ban mining the ocean floor. There is so much we don't know - how can we risk destroying ecosystems and wiping out organisms that have been around for millions of years?
