Aimee, I so appreciate this video. I contacted the Bureau of Land Management in May for a patent. I have yet to receive a return correspondence. I could not figure out the web site. After your complete but well explained video, I have found by myself the patent I wanted. Thank you so much!

The BLM site for land patents is just for land purchased from, or granted by, the government, right? Not private sales, like a 3x-great-grandfather buying a farm in Pennsylvania in the 1840s or a grandfather buying a cabin in the 1930s, right?
@AncestryAimee
@AncestryAimee 5 ай бұрын
Yes. The BLM site is just sales or grants from the federal government. Person to person sales are in deeds. Check this video out. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jp5-gciW3dK6aHk.htmlsi=R40jUYsPWSxRkXpA

How did you get to the enumerator instruction page. I can’t find link and i dont see a search option.
@AncestryAimee
@AncestryAimee 8 ай бұрын
Sorry - the link was in the video description, but here it is as well: usa.ipums.org/usa/voliii/tEnumInstr.shtml. You then select the appropriate year and scroll through to see all the instructions to the enumerators.

I have found and downloaded my ancestor's land from Bureau of Land Management. My problem is that it has been years since taking a course on finding my Township, Range and Sections. I need a good course on finding the land on lets say Google Maps or Google My Maps. Thanks!

Do you know how to find International Order of Odd Fellows or Woodsmen of the World burial records? I'm looking for records 1850 - 1905 in Ohio and 1905 - 1950 in Texas.

I haven't work with either of those groups - I'm no help to you there. I would suggest googling it - you can put things in " " to help with your searches too. Good luck!

How did you get to the enumerator instructions? When I go to that website, that is not what shows when it first opens up. So how do I get to the enumerator instructions from their main page?
@AncestryAimee

I'm not sure what's happening - you're not the first that has said it - but I'm not having that issue even when in a different browser. Go to: usa.ipums.org/usa/voliii/tEnumInstr.shtml and you should see the various years.

@@AncestryAimee I'm seeing "Login" and "Register" at the very top. Could it maybe be that I need to have an account and login to it in order to see it?

Gosh. I don’t know. I see login and register at the top too. I’m not logged in. Try googling “enumerator instructions” and see what you get. You can also view them on the national archives site. There’s a number of places you can view them.

Are there any websites that have information on sororitites? Looks as though my mother was in a sorority and I don`t have any information that she even attended a college! I have her pin and a sighned certificate that she was a member but no mention of the school. No luck with yearbooks either and doest mention it on any cencus. Maybe she dropped out? Anyways. any tips?
@AncestryAimee
@AncestryAimee 8 ай бұрын
Great question! You could reach out to the sorority (in general, not specific school chapter) and also check newspapers where she lived. Many times sororities were written up in the papers.

First, thanks so much for your channel. Your videos are always informative. I watch youtube on my tv usually so i don't comment...rarely. I'm retired now so i have more time than $$. I have a question. I have GG grandparents who traveled by team in 1854 from NY (no birth records for either) to MN. Then to Dellona, Sauk, WI. He died in 1888. No death record. Only a small blip in a Baraboo newspaper about his death. Mentions that his wife (no name) died 6 years prior. No burial records for either. His occupation on 1880 census is Farmer. They lived with 1 of their sons & his family. Sauk Valley Historical assoc. says he (or they) may have been buried on the farm. Is there ANY way of finding this out??? I've been researching these 2 for years with no luck. The discovery of that little newspaper blurb on his death was like gold!!! But now I'm stuck again. Any suggestions?? I'm pulling my hair out.

Thanks for commenting. Glad you like the channel! That's a tough one for all the reasons you identified. Maybe reach out to the current owners of the land and see if they now of a burial site. They may have more information. If not, I would work on the kids and see if more is written about their family (hopefully their parents).

@@AncestryAimee , there is no address on the census for 1880. So I guess I need to search for land records except there's no indication if they owned or rented. Ugh!
