I’ve been going smaller and smaller one bag traveling over the years. Started with a 45 litre M.E.I. Voyageur, then went down to a 35 litre Minaal 2.0, and now travel with just a 21 litre Minaal Daily 3.0 plus a 6 litre Osprey cross body sling, plus a tiny waist fanny bag. And I travel for months in the tropics with only those things. I could go indefinitely with just that. (As long as I am traveling just in the tropics and don’t need any cold weather gear.)

I used a 33L Klättermusen Gnå for a monthlong trip to Japan. One big pocket that opens up almost like a clamshell and a laptop bag. It’s about 1.6 kilos and can be taken as a carry on in most airlines. It’s a bit more rugged and is meant for mountaineering and hiking, but it’s great.

Nice roundup. Appreciate your efforts of putting this comparison together. I have the Bellroy Transit and I've been on the fence about the Able Carry Max. There's not enough of a difference in the packs to cause me to switch over. Although a side handle and more robust straps would be nice. Apologies for all the idiotic posts bitching why you didn't feature certain bags. Maybe they can create their own content on KZfaq. Keep up the great work.

I would recommend the Taskin One backpack. It's a bit of a game changer. It can easily convert into a duffel bag and there is a dedicated separate front pocket to put loose items. You can even expand it TWICE to stuff clothes in. It holds more than ALL of the backpacks mentioned in this video and doesn't cost a whopping $300. The Taskin is $193. I also like that it has a hidden pocket in the shoulder strap, a chest buckle, detachable padded belt AND pullout water bottle holder. It can open so the whole thing lies flat when trying to pack as fast as you can too. Even better: they still give you compression straps that cleverly stuff into hidden pockets when not in use! One other detail that helps: it has a detachable handle that can go near the bottom. This is handy when you stuff it in an airplane locker and you need to pull it out when it's jammed in with two other bags.

I have the Taskin One V1 bag that I got during the Kickstarter campaign. Its been... a bit of a disappointment so far. While its its neat it can be used in so many different formats, unfortunately its not a master of any of those formats which just makes the bag overly complex. The covers for the straps don't stay locked in and actually is designed for each corner to be tucked in which is a terrible design which gives them a deformed look. The plastic covers for one the magnetic straps have fallen apart off and is lost forever including the magnet inside. There's also way too many of these magnetic straps and you have to undue them each time to get to all major compartments except for the laptop section. It doesn't do camera equipment very well (its designed for clothes or use of their smaller packing cubes) and has less volume space than the PD Travel Backpack 45L (Taskin One tops out at 40L, which is spread over two main compartments). It also a kind of copy of the simpler Incase EO Travel Backpack but with some added features while looks good on paper, doesn't work very well in real world use.

The Stubble & Co Adventure backpack is a solid choice! It's known for its durability, functionality, and sleek design. It's great for both urban environments and outdoor adventures. As for availability in Germany, it can indeed be tricky to find some brands locally. However, Stubble & Co does offer international shipping, and there are often European retailers or online marketplaces that stock their products. It might be worth checking their website or reaching out to them directly to find the best purchasing options:)

Surprised that the Osprey Farpoint 40 isn't in this list. It's been the gold standard for years, with a rock solid warranty. Most of these bags are too small to be practical for one bag travel, and optimizing maximum carry on size - even if the available space isn;'t used fully - is what most travellers are looking for. Better to have the space and not need it, than need it and not have it.
@msp5138

Gold standard for who? People who want to travel around looking like broke backpackers who stay at the cheapest places possible? Not everyone needs or wants to travels like that.
@HarshaJayasekera
@HarshaJayasekera 5 ай бұрын
The Farpoint 40 is the OG bag of one bag travel. Most people on here don't know about it, back then it basically had no competition. It's what got me started on this journey back in the day (got a Peak Design 30-45L now). It was indeed the gold standard. Even the modern iteration of the bag is really great but it's popularity has given it the image of a broke backpackers bag, truly sad.
@CaptCanuck4444
@CaptCanuck4444 5 ай бұрын
@@HarshaJayasekeraI’ve had two Farpoint 40s, and the new bag in charcoal grey is quite stealth with sublimated branding. One thing to remember is that a brand like Osprey doesn’t need to pay KZfaq “Influencers” to promote their products, as their products speak for themselves.
@CaptCanuck4444
@CaptCanuck4444 5 ай бұрын
@@msp5138 Not sure about the broke backpacker thing, but I’m an affluent middle aged professional who spends about 2 months a year traveling for pleasure, and I choose Osprey over any of these other products. 40+ countries and counting. You seem to be confused about the topic of the video, “One Bag Travel”. One bag travel refers to carry on only. Lots of people travel like this for long stays, and stay in apartments with laundry appliances. Hope that clears up your confusion.

The problem with smaller capacity packs like these are, that for a lot of people, the hip belts on these packs are a waist of time, money and weight as the pack is just too short for them to actually do their job properly... I have a Cotopaxi Alpaca 35L on a bright color way. I did not want brown, black or grey at the time. It is a life changer if the bag ends up being stowed at the gate, like my trip back to Denmark from the US in 2020. The tarpaulin gives me more security, that I can wipe off dirt and grime, but also handle some rain. It should have been featured in my book, even on your honorable mentions. Beautiful computer sleeve, however being in EU now it is a terrible with the taxes on everything going up. Also as someone with autism, the lighting that has patterns while you show the bags, are irritating to my light sensitivity. I hope you can invest in better lighting when you are able to.

A cheap and poorly made backpack is not worth the time to be reviewed.

My Tortuga Setout only lasted 4 international trips before the shoulder strap detached/ripped (and I got to carry 40L+ around Asia on one shoulder for over a week). They refunded my money, but the cost of their new bags are up 50% from when I bought mine, so to get a new one I’d still be about $125+ out of pocket. Really disappointed in their quality and would never recommend the brand.

We're sorry to hear about your experience with the Tortuga Setout. It must have been quite frustrating to deal with a ripped shoulder strap while traveling. We understand how disappointing it is when a product doesn't meet expectations, especially given the increase in prices. Your feedback is valuable, and we'll make sure to consider it in future recommendations. Thank you for sharing your experience!

None of them looks good as a backpack, tbh. They all look like carrying a big square container at your back.

Peak Design straps are garbage - had the travel bag - if fully packed it’s the worst. Also - can’t take waist strap away - so many good ideas but their harness system is horrible.

Stick to walk throughs. You can't possibly recommend bags for a specific use if you've not even taken them outside, never mind actually traveled with them.

Let me guess: data analyst, programmer/developer, or engineer..how cliche. “I travel a lot, eat at IG foodie spots, and stay fit with my expensive gym membership!” “I did well in school just like my parents wanted me to!”

Seriously? I just don't get it. All of these bags are around $300...for a backpack. WTF. I have not problem paying for good quality. Most of these bags have a $40-$60 knock off version on Amazon. Would GLADLY pay even $150 for a good, high quality backpack, but for whatever reason, there is no in -between. Either WAY overpriced or a cheap imitation.

Thanks for your comment. Manufacturing costs and material costs have gone up considerably. Also, most of these brands use more ethical and responsible fabrics, factories, and other materials - these also push the prices up. The knock off products can do it cheaper because 1. they didn't need to spend years designing a product, 2. they aren't using good factories, 3. their fabrics are polluting the waterways, 4. their factory workers aren't paid properly or don't have safe working conditions. This means the product is cheaper, but is this what we want to support?
