BACKGROUND STORY
We are steps2adventure, better known as Jordan & Annalise. We created the steps2adventure brand to inspire people to explore what the outdoors has to offer. Back in 2019 we always knew we wanted to travel, we were planning backpacking trips, train journeys.. you name it. Thankfully we came across the van life KZfaqrs! As soon as we saw this way of life we knew this was it, this is how we want to live and travel. So, we bought a van… Not just any van, she’s a 2007 LWB Mercedes sprinter van, an absolute beast!! We have spent over 2 years converting her in-between work and some little adventures across the UK.
Come along with us for some epic adventures across the UK & Europe and everyday life in-between

I love the way you make an effort to say bonjour and merci and always have a smile 😊, it makes all the difference when you're travelling. If you can learn 2 phrases in every country you visit you'll always be welcomed 😊

We travelled between Ireland and England during a terrible storm. The doors were jammed on docking and after an hour of trying to release them they decided to turn the ferry round and get the lorries and cars off backwards. That was worse than the crossing. The staff were just doing what they thought and it was complete mayhem. Turning great lorries around in such a confined space everyone shouting and it was It was obvious that drivers were not understanding a word. It showed quite clearly that this scenario had not been thought about and a plan put in place. Needless to say we have never been in a ferry since.

From France to England. Took 7 hours to get back to UK. What a ride. Forgot to say, I feel asleep holding onto a pole. After several hours of sleep, I awoke to everyone on floor with puke bags beside them. Hubbie was also attached to pole. We went to find food.

My fatther passed away last year. My brothers and I and mum would go Brittany Ferries from Portsmouth - St. Malo with another family for camping holidays all over france. Did it from the age of 10 and just the best holidays and the exctiement of father driving on the ferry, it all started there. I miss my mum and dad so so so much but this video kind of brought back so many of those memories. Wonderful and thank you, made my world a little happier today.

In 1987, I was on a bus tour of Britain and Ireland. We took the ferry from Dover (I think) heading towards Dublin. A killed herself by jumping off the ferry into the sea. The ferry was required to search as long as there was light. It searched for @ 7 hours, until dark. The ferry was running out of food, water etc. Everyone knew the situation, several passengers had tried to stop her. She was travelling with her husband and young kids,, she had been in hospital in London and her family was bringing her home. Our tour group lost its day and evening activities in Dublin, which was disappointing. Through all these years all these years, I’ve never forgotten this tragic woman.

UK border was the longest part for us aswell. Made us open the boot and checked our tyres? Lol. However one french car was stripped fully and they stopped the whole process because of a "suspicious item" took atleast 30 minutes to get past then the had the sniffer dogs at the ferry side too,which you might have seen. French side literally is in and out without hassle. We went to Nantes on bastille day last year, best experience I've had, lovely weather and city.

We had the same a couple of years back, we always go direct to the reception whrn boarding to upgrade the room and she making small piles of anti seasick pills. The woman said it was going to be a very rough crossing. Advising us not to eat and drink too much. It was awesome, metal screeching and banging every wave. We were in the lounge area (commodore suits i believe?) and the waves smashed the windows and we were right under the bridge. Loads of people sick, scared or both, but we thought it was awesome seeing nature giving a small example what she can do.

I thought we were going to sink during one stormy December ferry crossing from Dieppe to Newhaven. The trip took 9 hours instead of the usual 3-4 hours. It was so rough, all of the glassware in the bar was destroyed, the chairs and tables were broken up and some of the truck on the lower deck had broken their wheel mooring chains and were leaning against the side bulkheads, That was a storm I will never forget!

I never have got seasick on any rough crossing, just lucky I guess. The motion never bothers me, done Felixstowe to Zeebrugge , Harwich to the Hook and Harwich to Hamburg. But if it ever bothers you, take Dramamine before and you will be OK. Buy before you leave UK online from Amazon, Ebay etc.

I havent been there for a couple of years, but we used to use a cafe in Carfour for breakfast. With the exeption of the bacon it was ok(French dont seem to have good bacon). We used to land our fish into Cherbourg, but then switched to Dielette by the nuclear reactor. Unfortunatly Brexit has made landing in France difficult . Your crossing was ok, but we are used to it. You had the best ferry, you mentioned Condor on the way past, only use if you have too lol.

Don't go to the west coast of Ireland if you don't like wind and rain. I was at Inch near Dingle and I heard what sounded like a train coming . There's no trains anywhere near Inch tho. Suddenly wind and rain arrived and this gust started picking the back of my van up off the floor. By the time it was over my kayak was hanging on the side of my van by the security lock I use. Both straps were shredded and of no use. They were quality straps and only 2 weeks old. God knows where my kayak would have ended up if I didn't have the security lock on it. The rear end of my van was picked up and dropped several times.

My family and I did the channel crossing in rough seas, the toilets were awash with water swilling everywhere, it was easier to be outside in the fresh air as opposed to inboard as the warm air made my wife and son poorly and with the loos being the way they were that was not easy.

Very interesting and thankyou, Mr & Mrs V Meldew. ;o) I saw how easy it can be with your dog, but how would I be, with a huge German Shepherd, getting around ship? though he IS well behaved. I've been on a few sea crossings, and the stormiest was Hook of Holland to Harwich (Dec-93), after driving from Germany. The sea chased us all the way across smashing around the stern doors. A crew member said the one before {same direction} was several times worse. I went to Vienna by train a couple of times, (via Dover to Ostend ferry). I used to get a seat in the bar, and not move outside; and on one trip, most of the people in my Couchette - sleeper carriage were also in the bar haha. It's just a lottery what sort of crossing it can be. And weather forecasts have been wrong. Anyway, it looks like you had fun. I always prefer the trip out, more than homeward. You both seemed to feel that a bit. More please..

That's a "flat calm"..... when my old feller was in the RN he sailed across the bay of Biscay in a destroyer escorting a 40,000 ton RN aircraft carrier. He said the entire carrier disappeared every 30-40 seconds as it plunged into watery canyons between mountainous waves, with just the tips of its masts visible.

No way, to be fair the camera didn’t do it justice. The front of the boat looked like it was a rollercoaster😂

Wow….. you’ve got a kitchen in your camper* but you’re buying a breakfast….. FROM Mc NODALDS!!!!! I am exactly the opposite…. Long time ago I thought Mc-food (being the only one open late at night…) was better than going to bed hungry….. I was wrong……. * some bread, a couple of eggs, fried with some tomatoes, maybe some cheese,salt ‘n pepper…. Or realy anything else you can think of…. Save money, eat healthy and be proud of what you just made yourself! But of course I do respect your choices, it’s just that it amazes me…. (Btw I have never Muslimmed my dogs on any ferry…) And on top of that I think this vid is great!! And you are nice folks!! Thumb+Subscription..

The reason for asking how long you have been in France is the schengen rules. Any more than so many days, you pay a lot of money. Check the Schengen rules. Also all EU countries.

Why not just drive to Calais and take the channel tunnel (the Chunnel) ? That way the weather is irrelevant. Nifty van by the way. Did you guys build the interior?
@Steps2adventure

Already paid for the ferry & by the time we drove 6 hours to Calais we would have been back in the UK 😂 Thanks, yeah we built it ourself x

No unfortunately we can't get one without doing 5 years in Ireland if yiu have an Irish passport I think it's like the second or third most powerful passport in the world giving you visa free travel in the over 154 countries 👌

In Europe things are really close together. You can be quite literally in one country one day and another the next and you have these great Ferry services that would be the envy of us down here in Australia. Such a shame you had Brexit. Now you have all these passport hassles. That is the only thing that really spoils it. I would love to travel on those Ferries.
@Steps2adventure
@Steps2adventure 2 ай бұрын
Your not wrong BREXIT has massively impacted travel and overseas work if only it could be overturned but the ferry services are great and the rest of Europe is super well connected 💯👌

Like in hotel, they should inform guests that it is a training situation using stormy weather as a topic. The french staff saying you "bonjour" did it in such rude way, I am chocked. (By the way, I am french😊😮😂). If you don't like client, go working elsewhere

I wouldn’t want to muzzle my dogs, is there anything you can do to avoid that.
@Steps2adventure
@Steps2adventure 4 ай бұрын
You can leave them in your vehicle or just have them in the pet friendly cabin. You’ll just need to make sure they don’t need the loo 🫣😂 to be fair even if they need to go the toilet on the outside deck they only have the muzzle on for less than 5 minutes then they can take it back off once in the cabin x

I also think it is nice for you to try and say bonjour and merci as much as you can while in France - but when you mispronounce Cherbourg over and over it's not on guys. It is pronounced SHERbourg lol. And Carrefour is just plain old CAR FOR lol.
