If you don't have an anti-static band the other free way that I've found is to shout at your parents until you're fully grounded for about a week or so. Hope this helps :)

+Takashi “AlucarD” Kamiyama Okay I'm about to order these PC parts. pcpartpicker.com/part/amd-cpu-fd6300wmhkbox **Before I do It, is building a PC by yourself hard? Or is their instructions? If not, how am I supposed to know what goes where? Also, Is there anything I need to know NOT to do when putting the pc together? Can I break any of these parts easily? And lastly, do I have to buy an Optical Drive? Or Will my PC work without it? And I can just Get Windows 10 in some different type of form other than a disc?

+D LocK 1: Children do it, so no. Not that hard, most things will only fit in one slot :v 2: When installing the mobo (Motherboard) set the tower on it's side, and screw the mounting screws in the center first 3: Before you install anything into the case, put it together outside on the mobo box, and test it and make sure it posts 4: Apply equal pressure to the RAM 5: You can install the windows 10 setup wizard onto a usb drive. Once it's on the drive, it'll make it a boot drive making it launch windows 10 on startup

@TheLordNugget
@TheLordNugget 6 жыл бұрын
It all depends on the strength of the magnet used. If you use a strong one it lasts a while. Also, magnetism is achieved when all molecules are aligned or something. If the screwdriver is banged up, thrown around, and generally put through abuse it will lose its magnetism. When I did this, the magnetism lasted for the life of the screwdriver. Got weaker of course, but it always held the screws.

To add to the bit about applying thermal paste on the CPU. I found it to be useful to spread the thermal paste with an old gift card or something with a clean, smooth, flat surface. That way you can remove excess thermal paste if you did in fact put too much as well as ensure thermal paste isn't seeping over the sides of the CPU when you install your CPU fan/cooler.

Alex Grow Linus said long ago that you should not put your graphics card or any part over a anti-static bag but don't know about the new ones.

Anti-static bags are not conductive, you can use a multimeter on it and it will show infinite resistance. You can build a computer and power it on the Anti-static bag, it won't don't any harm. But it won't provide Anti-static protection, as the component need to be sealed inside in order to form a Faraday cage.

Rated R ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) There's a chance that putting your GPU on top of the anti-static bag will short-circuit your GPU, because the outside of the bag is still conductive (my bag says so), but I put my GPU on top of that bag (by accident) for a few minutes and my GPU is working fine.

Here is a tip if using an old case. Make sure the only grommets on the case, match the holes in the motherboard. If a grommet is in the wrong place, it could short out the motherboard when it contacts the back of it. Almost learned this the hard way, but did a bit of research before applying power.

@Kodlaken
@Kodlaken 8 жыл бұрын
+DarkSamuraiHD Thermal paste is a very high heat conductive paste that is used between two objects (usually a heatsink and a CPU/GPU) to get better heat conduction. It fills in all those microscopic imperfections on the heatsink and CPU/GPU that can trap air in them and cause a loss in the heatsink’s performance. Air is a very poor conductor of heat. Thermal Interface Materials (TIM) can be up to a 100 times greater conductor of heat than air.

Tip 1 Hold and handle all components by touching and holding onto the motherboards circuits, the gpu's circuits and hold the cpu and ram by the pins to ensure you don't damage any of the components, also don't bother with grounding yourself as that wastes timeTip 2 Bring heavy strong magnets to your building area be sure to have them 2 feet away, this will help them shield them from the harsh environmentsTip 3 Make sure you are wearing conductive clothing and are on conductive floor and area this will eliminate all threats to the PCTip 4 Work in a messy and untidy environment, preferably a place where you will easily lose stuff, such as screws and boltsTip 5 Put the thermal paste on the gpu's circuitry and do not read the instructions and try to build it as fast as possible.I hope these tips help for anyone out there having trouble, do not worry this wont cause any harm to your PC.

magnetic screw drivers can be annoying sometimes. Just get a good set of regular screw drivers and a magnetiser. this will aloow you to give the screw driver a small magnetic pull when you need it and remove it when you don't. also you can use any strong magnet you have around the house to magnetise a screw driver.

So for the static thing, I have a bunch of boxes around my house. Could I make small segmented platforms, set them on my carpet and stand on those while I work, that way I don't have to plug in the power supply and ground myself every few seconds? I'm fairly certain that where I'm working, there are no outlets anywhere nearby, so the power supply option would be a problem.

Okay, one REALLY important tip many forget: Make sure your casings mounting points for the motherboard, where you screw it in, line up with the corresponding holes on the motherboard. If your motherboard has 6 holes and your motherboard has 4, its not a problem as long as they line up and you get a firm connection. Whats really bad though is if your motherboard has 4 holes, and the casing has 6, and they are made out of metal, and touch the backside of your motherboard, where there are circuts, and essentially youll end up shorting out your motherboard. It happened to me once and i couldnt figure that out for the life of myself at the time, however no lasting harm was done.
