I would mute my KZfaq when I am watching cat misbehaving or taking a bath, so that my cats would not hear their cries or learn their mischiefs. I feel like an over-protective mother with teenagers.

I took my cat to a groomer once. As per his nature, he didn’t get aggressive or cry for help. He did, however, mistake the groomer for the vet. Taz was always known for just wanting to get the vet visit over with, so at some point he’d arch his back and take a dump on the examination table. The trick was to catch him before he sat on it. Apparently he did the same thing for the groomer. They called me saying, “we tried to explain to him that we’re not the vet. We don’t need a stool sample, but he wouldn’t listen. We had to keep rewashing him because he kept sitting in it. We managed to get him clean, but gave up on doing anything more than towel drying him. So, he’s still wet, but smells good.” Good enough for me! You did the best you could! After that, he became obsessed with taking showers with us so he never needed to go back to the groomer. Lol

@@Nnexxxx Exactly! We had to allot time in the morning because he wouldn’t leave us alone to get ready for work without getting his shower. And he’d yell at us and the faucet when the water didn’t heat up fast enough. He’d stand up and paw at the water. He’d walk around and talk to the water. We started keeping cat products in there if we could manage to wash him. After showers with my roommate, he’d get all excited and jump into bed with me to show me how soaking wet he was. He’d want to be petted and he’d dry himself while laying on top of me. We had to resign ourselves to the cat being wet all the time.

@@AGuler-ml9hc Older cats don't bath as much so it's best to have them used to it young. I have to occasionally bath my 13 year old cat as he's old and getting lazy.

@@AGuler-ml9hc one of my cats turns 17 tomorrow and she can’t clean herself as well as she should and consequently has flakes of skin through her fur. A bath would be great for her, but she’s never had one so I wouldn’t put her through that trauma at her age. Most cats don’t need baths, but many long haired cats need regular grooming,whether it be by the owners or a professional.

I've recently started bathing my older American Shorthair, and I really expected her to freak out at some point and scratch or something atleast to get away- but thankfully she actually wasn't very bad at all. I won't say she enjoyed it, because she meows the whole time, but shes very calm for a cat!

We had to shower our cat yesterday cause she got poop on herself. I've never done that before. She went through so many emotions and we only thought to bribe her with treats as we were drying her off... but afterwards she was even more affectionate than she usually is and totally chill. On some level they definitely understand when we are trying to help

Pro tip for recent (not dried) accidents: fill the bath with about 4 inches of water, put a towel down, and then put soap all over the towe. Hold the cat under the arms like you’re pretending to dance with them, but keep their butt on the towel. If they try to move around they’ll just end up scooting their butt around on the towel, doing all the cleaning for you. Afterwards you just pull the towel out from under them and rinse off anything that’s left

I would have thought most cats would end at rage. Maybe because that's what spicy Mayonnaise impressed on me. I can't imagine how much of a challenge it is for my sister's cat to get groomed. She's such a sweetheart, but has a lot of long fur!

I had a Siberian Forest cat who detested being groomed. But the groomer said she was a sweetheart. I guess she went into acceptance and stayed there.

It definitely depends on the cat. Some will never get past rage. Others skip it entirely and just go straight to acceptance. I have three cats. One needs baths on a regular basis but is thankfully practically the most compliant cat in the world-I don't think rage exists for him. I've never seen him swat at anything or anyone, even when a comb snags something or he's at the vet. One I'm fairly sure I could bathe with difficulty. The third... I live in fear of ever having to give her a bath.

Maybe she doesn't like the brush? My older one (not the Siberian ironically) gets mad at anything that's not a flea comb. My Siberian loves the brush but will eventually think it's a toy.

The effort and patience you put into grooming cats is so lovely to see. Here in Sydney I had to take my cat to the vet every summer, who would sedate and shave him. He always looked very odd afterwards, but at least his matting was gone.

I thought she did really well. Our current longhaired cat doesn't mind baths. However, we had a Persian that put up a major fight and I had to have my husband extract her back paw that was lodged in my forearm!

My girl also lacks the acceptance stage. Gizmo's stages range from 1: Confusion. 2: Escape artist. 3: Anger. 4: Murder victim. 5: Air raid siren. We can't blow dry her, she turns super aggressive so it's LOTS of cuddles with many microfiber towels to dry her. She does well enough with having her claws clipped and loves to be brushed.

You can try putting a rubber mat or towel at the bottom of their tub. Some cats don't like slippery surfaces. You can also try gradually easing the cat into full baths. Just start washing their feet first, then with their legs the next time, then their backs the next time, then with their bellies, and so on. Some cats like to take their time adjusting to new things.

My cat is ok with water and shaving. However, she absolutely hates brushing her fur. She is very angry about that. I think it's because of her arthritic hips and paw. She has it in her front paw and her two back hips.

Bless her. My arthritic cat didn't like being brushed, so we tried him with a grooming mitt. He loved it. It was just like being petted for him. Might be worth a try for your fur baby!

Aw poor thing, my old dog had the same. He’d never liked getting brushed, to be fair, but once his legs started going it really hurt him even if we were being careful. Which were definitely moments for me that I realized how badly he could mess me up if he didn’t love me … big, big teeth he had 😅

Just gently holding her paws to start with works pretty well, light brushes with your fingers when she's already relaxed and then onto gentle massaging and slow presses to extend her toes before ever trying to bring out the clippers. Granted I still have one semi feral baby who even after 3 years still heavily protests along with my old lady.

It takes time, calm, and patience. Sometimes you will only be able to do a few claws at a time. Some cats handle it better than others. Some are more agreeable about certain feet than others. Sometimes wrapping in a large towel is a better option. Don’t let her jump off your lap, set her down purposefully so she knows you are gently releasing her. Treats when you’re done must always be given as an apology offering. Be confident, loving, gently firm, her momma. You can do this and she’ll still love you afterwards.

I trained my not-so-friendly kitty to let me bribe her with her favorite treats. I never give her those treats, I reserve them only for nail cutting time; which happens every week. Now she knows, as soon as I shake the bag of treats she runs to me and starts meowing and let me cut her nails. That’s at least for the first paw, the second one is always a struggle. But she knows that if she doesn’t let me cut all of her nails there’s no treat for her😅

Start playing and petting her paws! The more you gently handle her paws and lower legs in a non-upsetting setting reduces the stress for the actual nail clipping.

I think it's just fish-flavoured paste. Or chicken, or beef, or oyster, or whatever your pet likes, I guess. They're massively popular in Asia for some reason, but I think you can get them at pet stores pretty much everywhere.

I just took my kitty Gus to the groomer yesterday. He won’t let me brush him or do any sort of grooming but when he goes to the groomer they always say that he is the sweetest cat ever. I’m glad i have a place I can take him to get cleaned up ❤

Thank you so much for doing a Siberian!! I have a 12 year old Siberian, the one in my profile picture. They are such an incredible breed. With their triple layer water resistant coat it takes a long time to even get them wet in the bathtub through all three layers of that coat. And there is a LOT of shedding. I will find tumbleweeds of fluff in the air and little clumps on furniture all the time. I decided to get him groomed a few years ago for the first time after seeing your channel. My cat is extremely loving to the point where he’s uncooperative sometimes because he wants to lick you and be held rather than be groomed, but it was such a difference taking him in to the groomers. Despite regular brushings with multiple types of brushes and de-shedding tools he still has so much fur. He came back from the groomers looking slimmed down because they did such a good job getting all of that loose hair off. The tools they have certainly help a lot. I think it’s great that you groom cats and show the benefits of having them professionally groomed. Vanessa, watching your channel has helped me so much in learning how to better take care of my cat and my standard poodle. I wish I lived in Canada so I could bring them to you!!

I rescued a mainecoon recently who went through all the stages of grieve in his carrier as well, but the hilarious part was him accepting treats while crying. Hearing him crying while chewing took me off guard and I just collapsed on the floor 😂

I had a cat that hated to be in his carrier (during brief car trips) so his solution was to pee in it thinking he would be liberated. It didn't work and the only thing he hated more than the carrier was a bath 😒 he would literally scream like he was being murdered 🙄

Certain sprays can't be used on cats so I only have a few cat ones

I had a long hair white Manx cat. He had a mess on his back end and I "attempted" to clean him up. There was blood all over the bathroom and on him because he BIT THROUGH MY FINGERNAIL. Ouch.

Why would you groom and bathe a cat they can do that themselves, you're only stressing them

Older cats don't groom themselves as much and they can get quite dirty

My boys a 13 yr old ragdoll mix and he will take no slickerbrush or metal comb. He prefers a cowhorn person comb. It just glides through his fur and any knots drop out so easily and leaves a glossy finish.

Ragdoll's fur is very different from Siberian fur, it's silkier and smoothing that's why you feel the glide and gloss effect
