If you are new to using a jig, buy arkie style jig head first. They can be used in almost all applications. Then branch out from there with more specific types, I.e. football jigs, swim jigs, ball headed jigs. Another great video Debo!

I was one of the rare few who started bass fishing with jigs. Never tried plastic worms until a year after that. I still love the humble jig more than any worm or hard bait I own. They are just so versatile. Great video, good information

Agreed, they can go anywhere! The jig is great to learn with!

@@DEBOSFishing They are just so versatile. Swim a white jig to imitate shad or a bluegill pattern. Use black and blue or green pumpkin to drag across the bottom to imitate crawfish. You can even swim them on the surface over lily-pads like a frog and drop them into holes!

I remember a few years ago being a new bass/musky angler(trolled for walleye my whole life) and I thought skirted jigs were crap, never caught shit . Then I learned to put a trailer on them. Life changing.
@DEBOSFishing
@DEBOSFishing 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I don't ever rock them without a trailer!
@zubertish
@zubertish 5 жыл бұрын
Another tip? As one threads on the plastic trailer, just before sliding it over the 'keeper', twist the trailer/plastics a quarter turn left or right (or half turn...just experiment) then while it's twisted, slide the trailer up over the keeper and once slid up all the way, twist the trailer into position. This helps keep your trailer on longer since there isn't a direct straight groove backwards down to the hook. One can also add a drop of gel super glue to the backside of the jig head or the bait keeper.
@DEBOSFishing
@DEBOSFishing 5 жыл бұрын
I like the twist idea, going to try that. I've tried the super glue thing and it was a mess for me lol. Thanks for the comment man!

One thing I found with feeshin a jig in comparison to a Texas rig for instance... slowwwww. Drag, hop, double hop hop... try to feel and pay attention especially when coming in contact with lay downs and brush. Bump the head of the jig on the limbs and logs softly until you get the feel for it. Dangle it over this kind of cover, don’t try to snatch it out. Will save you money and boost confidence. 👍🏼 thanks Debo!

Another great vid Debo! I started out bass fishing like 5-6 years ago and had no freakin clue what to do with a jig. A couple of summers ago I decided to tie one on for every outing and soon realized what I was missing out on! I catch bigger and more fish on a jig than anything else now! Patience, with some trial and error helps a lot.

Gotta trim those skirts. I also trim and thin out the weed guards. Fiber guards get fanned out so you get better protection
@bamf0805

Going to flare my weed guards. I do trim my skirts, hook my trailers similar to the way you do, and I always tie a palomar knot. I don’t trim the front of the skirt tho so I’ll knock that out tomorrow as well. I almost always take a small chunk off the trailer tho. I find it’s much easier to get the bait keeper in without destroying it.

Hey, Debo's! I have worked on my Topwater, Spinnerbait and Crankbait fishing over the last two years. My catch ratio has increased 70%. So I haven't worked on my bottom fishing in a while. When I lived in Southern Indiana. The lake I fished had Smallmouth bass in it. So I read up on how to catch Smallies. I used a Carolina rigged Pumpkin Green Salamander on a EWG 3/0 hook. This set up worked great! So now wanting to add to my fishing arsenal. I am wanting to learn how to jig fish and also add Carolina rig's this year. Believing I can improve my PB by bottom fishing. Debo's can you give me a update on jig fishing and do you have any Carolina rig knowledge to move me along. To catching my new PB. Shawn.

I'm not huge with jigs I will use them from time to time but I typically have a few other things I prefer more (mostly due to no bass being up here in North Dakota) most fish end up being pike/trout/northerns but yeah if I go for a jig I like the zman craws not advertising but they float and on a jig I just like to see those claws rise and I tend to fish a jig extremely slowly maybe a foot every 15 seconds.

Do you have any videos that talk about the specific techniques? The one thing I think that I've been having problems with is how to actually start using them on the water. How do you move the rod to get certain motions, stuff like that. This, of course, is right alongside the whole "I don't know where/when to use what" problem. Hard to find tips that say "If you see [THIS], try using [THAT]." as a real jumping off point.

I find bulky, heavy jigs pretty difficult to fish especially on soft bottoms. Very hard to tell what's going on down there and it tends to pick up a lot more gunk than a smaller jig.
@DEBOSFishing
@DEBOSFishing 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, lighter is better in that situation especially if it's pretty shallow.

What if I want a smaller profile but I don’t want to spend the extra money on anouther pack of baits that I already have just in a different size?

I am weak on freshwater jigging, mostly a worm guy. What jig would you recommend for shallow, clear, lots of Lilly pads with open pockets water? No rocks or wood. Thanks
@PrestonOutdoors
@PrestonOutdoors 5 жыл бұрын
Morty Ditchtroll If your going to be “swimming” the jig through the Lilly pads then using some jig with a more pointed head which will allow you to bring the jig easier through the cover. A flipping jig or brush jig are great jig for flipping the opening or edges of the pads. Hope this helps!

check out the 6th sense hybrid jig. you can get it in a standard skirting or finess style.
@DEBOSFishing

The all terrain tackle grassmaster jig has been money. But really any swim jig with a stiffer weed guard. Not like the finesse one I showed in the vid.

hard part here is our pond is full of algae, kinda clogs up anything near the bottom. haven't had much luck with surface lures, but only bank fishing for now, no boat... but lotsa time to play/learn new baits... It'll all come together. Your videos help a lot, keep up the help. 😊😎 👍👍👍👍👍

Being new to fishing jigs I could def use this video. Lost my first one last week to get snagged in the “v” of a lily pad. Any hints to avoid that? Or is it the same info as the video?

Just work them over things slowly. Sometimes you can't help but get them stuck from the bank. But work them over rocks and brush slowly.

Is it just me or does anyone else fan out the weed gaurd so it doesnt snag as much. I think it helps after speading the gaurd.

Depends on what you want to do, water temp, water clarity, etc. I use the rage craws when I want a lot of action. Try different stuff out to find what you like.
