"Collision Course"

Yeah, de la Hoya was fat at middleweight. One division too high for him. Note the soft abdomen. Also wore a high cup (basically the WBA belt) in the Vargas fight also. Clearly Hopkins noticed this studying Oscar leading up to their fight. As we all know how that turned out. He knew Oscar was covering an obvious weakness. Why else would he try to wear a cup so high, when it’s against regulation? You know he probably pushed the cup super low backstage to pass the commission. Or just payed them 😉

This is one time when de la Hoya should have disobeyed his trainer in the corner with that shell defense he was using. Remember everyone that Floyd Jr was taught these things when he could walk by three professional boxers in the family. At the beginning of the fight when they said Papa Floyd had been trying to turn Oscar into a blaxican, I thought it was kind of funny but then I knew what he was talking about once I saw it happening. Oscar always fights best when he's on his toes and using the jab and standing tall but in this fight he was using that shell defense where you duck down and try to dodge punches like this and he even had his left shoulder up like Floyd uses it. Again, Floyd learned that thing 40 years ago. I think the guy won and it works to draw. I'm not going to put it all on Papa Floyd because after all Oscar is the guy paying his trainer lots of money. It was just no reason to try to change Oscar's way of fighting and most especially against someone that could have been destroyed if only Oscar would fall the way he normally does which is on the toes and the jabs. he's absolutely flat-footed and crouching down in that freaking crab defense and you see what happens when people really don't know how to use it or have just learned it. That's not an excuse for Oscar but at some point if you're a fighter you've got to start thinking to yourself I'm paying this trainer and this little technique he's giving me ain't working because it's so foreign to me. If Dale or you would have come into that fight just like you did against Trinidad and Mosley, even though he had a loss that was a little controversial in those, his fighting style is on the toes and jabbing until he can use his reach because he has a Long reach for somebody his height. I could be wrong but I think they said Oscar's reach was longer by one inch compared to the Bosnian German. At the absolute worst it should have been a draw and that's at the worst. Don't everybody come at me because I said Papa Mayweather shouldn't have been teaching Oscar that defensive strategy when he's in his thirties and he's not going to pick it up easily or be productive and we saw that it wasn't productive. in the middle of the fighter at some point I felt like Floyd senior was going to say okay listen Oscar I want you to fight like you did against Trinidad. He lost against Trinidad but I think anybody that has seen that fight remembers his corner told him he was about four rounds ahead so Oscar just went on the bicycle the last four rounds or whatever. With Mosley it was a controversial loss. He was doing decent against Hopkins but that liver shot was the end. When he fought Mayweather and backyard, this is when the guy was having all kinds of problems outside of the Ring from what I've always seen and been told. Wasn't he doing some weird things and people had hidden cameras and then sold the video to paparazzi? I don't know if you guys have heard that story but apparently he was dressed in female underwear before sex with the lady. I think he was also drinking like mad during those days too because when he came into Pacquiao and Mayweather fight, he did not look in shape and he looked flabby. He really didn't look that much in shape in this fight to be honest but that's not taking it away. Usually he comes in with a tan and his skin is kind of like golden because Oscar has light colored skin anyway. When he comes in and there's no color on his skin then that lets me know he hasn't been outside jogging like he had been his entire career so this fight and then in the Pacquiao and Mayweather fights, go back and just look at his shape and his body and try to tell me that he worked hard for those fights he thought he was going to be able to go in there and beat Pacquiao and beat Mayweather because he was taller and he had reach advantage and all this other stuff but that's just not the way it works if you don't train and as Floyd Mayweather has always said,.. easy work hard work and dedication. When white skinned Oscar comes into the ring, I like he did in this one and then Pac-Man and Floyd, I just think he was trying to make some cash and he just did not take time to train because he felt like he didn't need the train to beat these guys and you found out differently. I will have to give him a little heads up when it comes to fighting Floyd because he did a lot better with Floyd then he did when he fought Pacquiao. I mean I don't think Oscar de la Hoya has ever quit on the stool and the corner until that fight against Pacquiao now people that don't like Pacquiao probably going to say yeah Pacquiao was on drugs but not ever proven to be on any kind of drugs that I know of but he did have a fear of needles and that's an honest phobia that people can have. Now if I wanted to do a rebuato I could say yeah it's a real good phobia to have if you've been juicing hahaha

Boxing was killed when Don King got his hooks into most of the top fighters in it and many fighters got on PEDs afterward (I predicted Roy Jones, Holyfield, and other "blown up" superboys would begin losing right and left when all the boxing associations started drug testing in the early 2000s, and was indeed correct). Now many champs and "top ten" ranked boxers in most classes come from Russia and Europe, where PED technology is still ahead of Western testing and title fights are now routinely held.

You can see what Sturm is doing at the end of every round by the way... That's something only big brained Germans would think to do... He figured out that de la hoya was trying to steal the last 10 seconds of every round, so he would use his footwork to avoid danger. Dude was so solid with his gameplan
@MrMarco855
@MrMarco855 6 жыл бұрын
What happened here is bad for everyone involved. Sturm won this fight clearly and it wasn't really that close. He looked one level better then Oscar, and Oscar himself knew it. Maybe Oscar had an off night like he said, but maybe Sturm was too good for him. There's nothing that says Oscar can beat everyone. Sturm fought a classy, very efficient and effective fight. It may have been the best performance of his career, certainly one of his best, and they stole it from him. As always, money made them do it. They're breaking the rules of long term success, whether they realize it or not. They've managed to get away with it for a long time, but there's no guarantee it won't come back to kill the sport eventually. The fans have to accept part of the blame, in my opinion. Why? because when boxing crosses the line in this way, a healthy number of fans should have refused to pay for Oscar vs. Bernard. If not, the fans will get screwed more often as time passes. When you let someone get away with an obvious breach like this without repercussions, by rule it'll repeat, and to a greater extent each time until the dam breaks. After that performance, why would so many be excited to see Bernard thrash Oscar,...…..and isn't that what happened? Oscar fans were happy on this night, Oscar won and the fight with Bernard was all set. They got what they deserved and it's inevitable when bullshit like this is allowed to take place. The fans should have been willing to support Bernard against Sturm, they would have seen a good fight and got their money's worth. Sturm would have gotten the win he deserved here, and Oscar would have been motivated to get back on track. Oscar could have beaten a couple lesser guys to get himself back where he used to be, then, pending the outcome of Sturm vs Hopkins, Oscar could have taken on the winner. That's how it's suppose to work. Sturm wouldn't have been cheated, Oscar still had a good chance for a huge fight with Bernard or a rematch with Sturm, and the fans would have gotten 3 good fights out of the situation. What they ended up with because of this terrible decision was, one fighter being cheated, a half hearted win for Oscar, and only one more, not very good fight when Bernard stopped Oscar. Too bad nobody has the intelligence and the patience to let things play out honestly, it works out better that way every time. With the huge money on the line, nobody has patience and everyone loses their morals and character trying to grab the gold that they may not have deserved to begin with.. This fight was trying to tell the fans that Oscar would fail against Hopkins,....but nobody would listen,.....and because they let boxing get away with cheating Sturm, they got the stinker they begged for and deserved.

Sturm is not too good for DLH lol. He didn't train seriously. He made a huge mistake. He figured he'd take a quick tune up for Hop and it backfired. He was too big and going for a mistake like that. Either way, he was honest and said it could have gone either way. Secind of all, he looked alot better against bhop until that body shot.

In 30 years of judging, Mike Glienna scored 1 fight in the U.S. outside of Chicago, and obviously it was this bout. He was a very shady choice to say the least. Moretti is one of boxing's most experienced officials and Paul Smith was also well-known. In retrospect, maybe it wasn't a coincidence that both men received primo appointments as judges for De La Hoya vs Hopkins 3 months later.

This is why I’ve never felt any sympathy for De La Hoya. He’s had the deck stacked in his favor through most of his career. And despite being clearly outboxed for a minimum of 8 rounds, ( I had it 9-3), he still gets an inexplicable decision.
@ThePragmaticScorpio
@ThePragmaticScorpio Жыл бұрын
Sturm outboxed Oscar pretty handily picking him apart with the jab and finding openings for the occasional power shot, while DLH's only answer was to try and steal rounds with these desperation flurries. The fact that all 3 judges had DLH up 6-5 going into the 12th and al 3 gave him the last round tells me they knew exactly what their job was that night.

The only reason he won this fight was so the Hopkins fight could be made. The curiosity of how he would fair in comparison to Tito and since he generates a lot of money that's the main reason. E' stato molto bravo a preparare questo match e il suo Jab era ottimo, anche i suoi riflessi, certo Oscar qui non saltava più ormai aveva passato il suo miglior pugilato, ma era pur sempre pericoloso. Sturm was screwed out of the win because a De La Hoya/Hopkins fight was already in the works (hence the fight night being named "Collision Course") and was hinged on both fighters getting past their opponents. DLH/Hopkins looked more lucrative & attractive than a Hopkins/Sturm fight would have. Ian Darke of Skye Sports said "De La Hoya got the benefit of high charity," and most everyone agreed. I WILL give DLH credit for admitting he didn't look good (like he did after the Whitaker fight), but the damage had been done...
