The egg-knot is one of the first I was taught. We use it to tie on roe for Salmon and Steelhead fishing. Works great! Unfortunately older age and arthritis makes the knot a wee bit more difficult these days. Tip for you young wiper-snappers: Get your self a large hook and cut the pointy-end off and remove or crimp down any barbs... This makes an excellent practice tying hook when you're sitting around or even in bed. Tie a handful of knots before you go to sleep. A little each night helps build muscle-memory. Thank you for the video!

The only issue is for hooks with a small eye and the pain it can be feeding through essentially 2 fishing lines at ones because you bend it

@@private2371there are a few baits like that, but in general if the eye is too small for a Palomar putting one end through then back, then you're using too thick of line.

Tested a lot of knots. The Palomar is the strongest and easiest knot to use. If the line cant go trough the eye of the hook twice, really good chance your using WAY to large of a line to start with.. You dont need 40lbs mono for small Brim from your pond.. LOL

That first knot I’ve used since I was a little kid. It was on the back of a lure packet and it’s worked every time since I learnt it. I've used it on swings for kids and also in camping.

Thanks for showing those very useful knots. That twisted doubled line is good, i do a similar line twist to rig heavy leader to offshore lures. Keeps the hook in an aligned position inside the lure’s skirt while trolling and i fix the twists with a crimp instead of the knots. My favorite knots for hooks are the Uni knot and palomar. Used these 2 knots for 25 years and they haven't failed me yet, but theres always room for improvement!! Gracias again

Wow! this is a very informative video. Hey Skipper is a professor of Technique Excellent technique making it easy to do by applying it and practicing it as much as possible.. I use to know how to tie these knots when i was a young boy.. My dad would drop me and my twin brother off at the lake where we lived and we spent every day in the summer fishing, for years. We met this older man there who had been a fisherman for more than 60 years and we spent as much time with him as we could and he taught us many great things about techniques and knot tying etc etc etc and he became our mentor on how to catch the big ones but more importantly on being good kids and being only 14 years old the things he taught us were like gold nuggets . i have since forgotten some of the techniques about knots but i still know about 3 or 4 different ones.. and i remember that old sweet man..His name was Bryce.. I'm sure he has since passed on being this was more than 50 years ago but i will always remember that kind old man who taught me and my twin how to tie knots and i have since taught my grand kids the same things we learned.. Paying it Forward ..!

That was instructive. All these years that I have tied off gut I have been making it harder than it needs to be. As a non-fisher I never realised that you should sacrifice six inches of line and then tying knots becomes easy enough for a child to do. I have always wasted time making knots with an inch of tail on gut and having to be patient and meticulous. I learnt something new today.

A man after my own heart! I have a large collection of 300s, 308s, 304s and the "high speed" models of the same in the 400 models. I also have salt water Mitchels, the 306 and the 406. I also have 2 salt water bait casters with no level wind a 600 and 602A. What was cutting edge 50 years ago is now antique and high speed was nothing like it is today. However, there is a large supply of parts to repair them if they break and upgrade the drag systems. Ebay is a treasure trove for me because I simply won't retire them! I still don't own any newer spinning reels and mine get regular use. I'm 67 and remember when the Mitchel 300 was considered to be "top of the line" and in my mind, it still is. I still have the very reel my parents bought for me when I was a kid and begged them for one for my birthday one year.

Thanks bro! Always learning new stuff from you. Seen that earlier video on the egg loop knot and that’s my go to knot for my sturgeon leaders, works like a charm👍
