I completely agree with you, but my exhaust was so rusted it needed to be replaced, so I bought a catback. The catback sounds soooooo good, and there is actually a gain at higher rpms. Expecting a huge performance upgrade from an aftermarket exhaust for the g37 is just unrealistic, so I hope no one thinks that

Love your videos! My G37x needs a new catback due to factory rust. The shop I use told me yesterday there is no OEM availability and manufacturing has stopped on factory exhausts. Due to the raw material shortage of stainless steel, I was extremely fortunate to score a Stillen catback system to replace it. They only had 1 left with a 3 month waiting period afterwards! Gonna pair it with some aFe filters and see what happens. Feels like I'm 17 again. lol Just gotta install some 12" subs and do burnouts in a school parking lot now.

I bought some Teins. I haven't had them installed yet I need to do that. There are some speed bumps by me that I will rub if going the speed I normally go which isn't that fast. I almost want to keep it at the height it is. Now my car has 207,000 mi so perhaps part of the problem is that the factory suspension is seen better days

I have a 2019 370Z6MT with the sport pkg that has Hotchkiss sways and braised steel brake lines. Recently, I had a Fast Intentions TDX cat back x-pipe exhaust along with a Stillen Gen 3 long tube CAI installed and then had it dyno tuned on a Dynojet chassis dyno with EcuTek software. The result was a 46 hp(computed at the crank) increase in peak horsepower above the stock 332 hp. The torque increased evenly across the rev range about 15% over stock. The car is now a beast to drive with little change in the gas mileage.

I agree with everything he is saying. Maybe its because im older now. I also grew up spending my hard earned cash trying to modify cars like my celica then my wrx only to find it makes more noise than speed. Some mods increase horsepower but decreased low end torque. I never wanted to mess with the car by tuning it as well. i've owned a 370z for 10yrs now and have nothing on it but a drop in filter. Will never take it to a track or a drag strip. Very happy for what the car is in stock form. Its people like me who shouldnt bother with the mods.. for those who track and take their cars to car shows buying "go fast" parts might be for you.

Honestly Headers do make more power but in my opinion as well , they're not worth the money and effort to install unless you plan on supercharging. Only thing worth doing to these cars performance-wise is if you're gonna spend a couple of grand is to go big and boost it yourself. With newer cars coming out turbo charged from the gate, or with V8s , the only way to overcome that power to weight ratio disadvantage is with boost and the VQ37 can make some crazy power boosted on stock internals.

See I’m no mechanic but I’ve seen a lot of results from all my mods. I installed a takeda stage 2 cai and felt more power in high rpm’s. Then soon after installed a catback exhaust I felt a little quicker of the jump. Just put on coilovers too. Definitely the best mod I’ve ever installed the ride quality feels so much better. Next up is ported manifolds, lths, and some jwt cams. I happy with all mods I’ve done so far and seen great results from them. 2011 7at g37

You said you “felt” more power. Only dyno results and other test results will be able to tell you if improvements were made. However the g does respond a bit better to intakes than the Q-but generally not without a tune. Coilovers are a great addition-my point was that most people don’t drive the car hard enough to actually “need” them. But as long as you’re happy with everything, that’s all that counts!

When I bought my G37, it had stock shocks and the prev owner had it on lowering springs. Looked great, handled better. Years later, the shocks were worn out, so I went with coilovers purely because they were less expensive to buy and install compared to OEM - according to the Infiniti dealer in my city. But you're 100% right, I'm never going to push it to the limit.
@SpeedCultureStudios
@SpeedCultureStudios 2 жыл бұрын

@GuyX2013

I agree with the coilovers part. If you drive your car on public roads and don't want to worry about feeling like you're beating the hell out of the shock towers and your back with every minor bump on the road, I suggest a good set of springs instead. I've been driving over a year on Swift spec r's on my 370Z and have not blown shocks yet. I have the perfect stance for me, car runs flatter around corners but the bumps are handled in a way that you feel like its still on stock suspension. I think I'm going to get a stiffer front stabilizer bar to minimize body roll even further. If you don't plan on building your own turbo kit then I agree not to waste money on CAIs otherwise go for it and when you're ready, convert them to intercooler piping but definitely K&N drop-ins will do the same. As for test pipes I suggest not buying those until you're ready to get the car tuned so you're not getting your rear bumper filthy from all the unburned gas.

I don't know what your good name is but I thank you very much for this such an informative video, very well done, I was explaining my experience with previous gen Altima and 350z, I had friends with full bolt ons, UDP and a tune with some had no headers, some had no cat-back upgrades (only Y pipe with test pipes) all the time I see full exhaust and headers loses to Y pipe and Test pipe setup, it was really strange, other thing I've noticed is that with UDP (lightweight, approx 1lb vs 4lb stock IIRC), especially with lightweight flywheel, we get better launch and quicker 0-60 times but the issue when we go for higher speeds the lightweight/UD pulley loses to stock pulley and flywheel? I have observed these things, but on my g8 for example I have never experienced this, whenever I do any bolt on mod, I gain insanely! Must be something with Velocity, or could be an ECU glitch anywhere? Thank you very much, keep it simple as Y pipe, Test pipe, post maf tubes and drop in filters, Modshack if desired and a tune if desired, I would drop in stock air filters if not racing nor on track or doing some pulls, keep the engine clean lol, I greatly appreciate it bro, thanks a lot

According to admin tuning. All 370z/Q50 3.7s 2014 and newer tend to run much stronger on the dyno. I dont actually know why, but thats what admin tuning homie said. So some of us prior 2014 have to go with plenium/manifold/headers to even get what 2014+ owners can get with minimal mods.
@SpeedCultureStudios
@SpeedCultureStudios 3 жыл бұрын
Yes it is true that the older VQs respond better to mods, and the newer versions make better baseline numbers and benefit very little from part "upgrades." The cam in the 2014+ is slightly different--Admin has mentioned that in some of their videos as well--and the 2014+ has a better header design--more of a shorty header than a manifold like the older ones.

The car is lowered about 1.5”. Nice ride height. Even a Mechanic was telling when I went to pick up my car recently said . The ride height is at a good height . It’s lowered and not too low. And still with the stock Z wheels. And I’ve driven the canyons and places where there is a lot of cornering here in SoCal. Performance I have the AEM cold air intake, I will be swapping it with a custom shirt ram with EBay z tube with 4ply 3” silicone coupling, 3” cut alum. Pipe to a JWT pop charger. Vacuum piping to attached to an actual vacuum attachment of shop-vac. Just behind the grill of the bumper. Connected to the filter. Took off the custom race exhaust with the custom piping for a more factory exhaust system, Walker Performance exhaust Y-Pipe, mid-Pipe ( replaced the resonator with a straight pipe to a stock muffler I got off of OfferUp for $40 and it sounds great, accelerates better than when I had the custom setup. Has that nice growl to it. And with custom 4.5” exhaust tips 👍🏼😁

I have a 2009 g37 sedan. I was gonna do aFe drop ins, test pipes and tune. I feel like long tube intakes and CBE are a rip-off. $500 for a piece of air tube! Or $640 for admin intakes haha, it's ridiculous! Would you say post maf tubes are worth it for the g37? People claim the stock accordion part of the intake tube creates turbulence and can negatively affect airflow. Also, any cheaper drop in filter recommendations that aren't expensive? aFe charge a lot
@SpeedCultureStudios
@SpeedCultureStudios 4 жыл бұрын
You’re in the right track! The G does respond a bit better to intakes, but $500 is not necessary! I’ve used speed dady filters (eBay) with good results. Super cheap. I think they are out right now though. The smooth z1 tubes are good. It’s hard to prove that the turbulence hurts performance, but the z1 tubes are silicone which insulate better than rubber so they are better for that reason at a minimum.

Ported intake manifold and plenum are bad because it moves Volumetric Efficiency up to a higher CFM. Normal driving will be at a lower VE, and less torque (which is where torque is most necessary!) I've been driving an infiniti on stock suspension for less than a year and driving hard. It doesnt hold up and definitly has to much play. getting coil overs isnt even a "oh it looks cool close to the ground" its keeping the car weight on the ground for traction, I find myself letting off the gas because I can feel traction fading. If you plan on driving daily and respecting the car like its your dad's car than stock is fine.

My point in this video is that 95% of people will not drive hard enough to need Coilovers and that decent lowering springs will be sufficient for a vast majority of people. I agree, it’s not about just looking cool-although again 95% of the people modding these cars just do it solely for the looks…

Controversial stuff for those bench racers LOL. Totally agree on your points. Headers: not needed if the factory unit flows well. If you live in Calif like me, CARB regulations make it tough for tuners (very $$$) to make legal headers. Cat-backs are purely for sound, gains are minimal at best. Suspension: springs paired with quality shocks, bars, and bushings was the route I took to improve handling for track days, very cost effective vs track coils (Ohlins). You never mentioned tire choice: that alone can make or break handling on the track or the street. All these mods I did on a manual BMW 330ci I used to own (miss it). Never had a Q50 3.7, but I am kicking some tires.

Only partially true. I ran springs for 2 years with no issues and no signs of failure. No noises, no bounce, nothing. The problem is that people go with super downs and drop the car 2 inches or more and then drive like idiots and get upset that the shocks fail in 30k miles. Or they install springs on cars with 50K miles or more on them and the shocks are all ready worn out anyway. I've had several cars with lowering springs and have never had shocks fail. You just have to have reasonable expectations. Sure, they will add additional stress to factory shocks, but that doesn't necessarily mean they will fail.

no. Stay away from oiled filters. Go with aFe dry filters.

MrEfmad19 they work-they have just been known to gum up the MAF with oil making its way up the tube from the filter. Buy a can of MAF cleaner and keep an eye on things.

Raced another G37 in my own G37 and I'm completely stock with afe drop in filters and the other G37 was fbo with no tune (yet) and I got gapped ~3 cars. It's hard to believe your videos without you showing proof against other vq37s
@SpeedCultureStudios
@SpeedCultureStudios 2 жыл бұрын
There’s a lot that goes into racing bud. If you got gapped by 3 cars there might be something wrong with your car. But I didn’t say no mods help. I would say the guy that beat you would have probably beat you with just test pipes. Like I’ve also said a million times, Gs respond better to intakes than Qs. And I did provide proof, there is literally a clip of a z making huge numbers with like one mod. There are also a ton of videos of these cars on the dyno. All the proof is out there

Not much difference with an x unless you go for a substantial one like the borla in my SCS exhaust video.

I've just bought a 2010 g37, all oem . But as u know it The cat issue... I want to replace with cheap options while still having same mpg. Should I get hfc ?
@SpeedCultureStudios

HFCs are a good option, but they are not cheap. Either way, you won't really hurt your mpg.

when you say intakes do you mean like just the cone filter or like the z1 ones that go in front of the radiator
@SpeedCultureStudios
@SpeedCultureStudios 2 жыл бұрын
Anything sold as “cold air intakes” For the Q50, drop in filters are totally sufficient. The G and older Zs respond a little better to intakes, but if you really want them, make sure they are truly getting cold air like the ones you mentioned
