I can attest to the value of the S. Simon Watercolor Workbook. I also picked up her recommended colors and completed every drawing. The end result of the completed book is a very cohesive look.

Thank you for mentioning that you saw these books in a bookshop (and not online) I work at an independent bookshop and we carry all of the five you mentioned (possibly because we recognize how important art is) Personally I’ve loved working through the Watercolor Workbook. Being familiar with these books, I can attest to the information as well as the inspiration to paint. And that’s it, right? The inspiration to paint.

I just got the Watercolor Workbook yesterday!! I'm about to have a baby and thought this would be a great way to still be able to practice with watercolor when I won't have much time to start from scratch. And I'm so excited for the color mixing recipes!! I'm definitely going to get her first book too. I hope she makes More of the workbooks !

Do you have The Laws Guide to Nature Drawing and Journaling by John Muir Laws? I have that and adore it. It's the only book I've found so far that shows in detail how to draw insects which is my thing.

Wonderful overview. In my opinion you can never have too many books of any kind. My art book collection is enormous. I might be tempted to get the de Winton book now that I've seen the inside. As for knowing "all about" pigments-well I understand the point because not all convenience colors are the same across brands. But I paint for fun and don't plan on going professional so I don't bother with them. If you like art books a great channel for art book reviews is Alyona Creates. Her reviews are awesome. Spoiler alert: It has driven me to buy many, many books, so be forewarned. LOL

I love the idea of watercolor workbooks, but I have been disappointed in the paper used in the ones I have had. If they used actual watercolor paper that allows the watercolors to perform at their best, I would be sold.

It can be hard as really good quality paper can be so expensive. I just don’t think it’s feasible when selling these books. With that said, The paper in them seems pretty decent to me!
