Yeah, that’s why I wish our education system and social society was much more open to allowing kids to experiment. Before they make concrete decisions and waste time doing things they don’t like.

Most prereqs give premeds a little slap

Not in medical school yet, but this was one of the reasons I delayed applying until this cycle. Many of my friends and I didn’t really know why we wanted to be doctors/ didn’t understand the demands associated with wanting to be in the field. We decided personally and collectively to pursue our other passions and learn who we are. This pushed me into pursuing an MPH focused on community health and how the medical system works for those who are uninsured. Ultimately, it gave me great perspective and helped solidify why I still want pursue being a physician. For some of my friends, this break helped them decide they did not want to be a physician. I think part of the problem is this false narrative of having to have everything figured out by the time you finish undergrad.

@Isaac Suarez Some of the main purposes of medicine is prevention, rather than treatment. Treatment comes when an illness is already established, to which certain medicine does affect other areas of the body, but that's why doses exist, to prevent more harm from overdosing. If you think medical is just a big business, then focus on preventing illnesses and you should be fine.

@Isaac Suarez I don't know, nor can I speak about the type of attention you doctors have given you or other people you know in your country, but in mine, and in my medical school, after doctors prescribe their medicine, they educate the patient to avoid getting sick again. Yes, most ppl seek a doctor when they are already sick, but prevention is a main pillar of medicine, it's just that ppl would rather get treatment instead of taking care of themselves imo. I've seen people doing very reckless things against their health, so of course they will skip prevention and just go straight to treatment, but if you could pay more attention to your next appointment, your doctor will more likely tell you how to prevent getting sick again. This is prevention.

All in all it appears that cosmetic plastics are a better choice than reconstructive. Virtually no one's coming into cosmetics for a life threatening emergency, which really solidifies the predictability of your work hours. If you have your own practice, you set your own hours. Better compensation, because cosmetics aren't at the mercy of insurance companies and with your own practice you can set prices. The most glaring downside to cosmetic plastics that I can think of is the risk of you, as a cosmetic plastic surgeon, developing a vanity complex on your patients

The US will be GREATLY understaffed when it comes to GPs in the next years. With no plan to counteract it so far.

@@indeepphilosophicalthought3335 Hey, I am German. I can tell you a bit about the universities or the system of getting into the subject medicine. When you want to apply for the subject (do you say major?), you do it on the platform "hochschulstart" (except for private universities) which allows you to apply for medicine in different cities all at once. Apart from that, are med schools faculties? Because in Germany, we have just the universities, you apply for it, you get accepted, you attend lectures etc and yeahh... and they have faculties/ departments🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️. Sometimes, they have specific buildings. The process to get into medicine is very complicated and I can not explain it but what I can say is that there is a limited amount of places to study. There is a "numerus clausus" which is in Germany about 1,0 to get accepted but not everyone has a 1,0. (I think it is in America 4.0/A+). But don't worry. It is possible to get into the course of studies if you have... let's say 3,0 (in America it is 2,0 I think?/C) but it can be very difficult). Sometimes per uni you can increase your chances by having a good score on a specific test (TMS - test for medical studies) or other factors (see above, the process is too difficult for me to explain). Fun Fact: If you get accepted, you have the "Ersti-Woche" where the first years get to know the university, each other (and a lot of alcohol if you like🤭) Almost all of the universities in Germany are public so you don't have to worry about your chances in the job market (and your money? There are also "Fernuniversitäten"/ distance or open universities but they don't offer medicine. You still have to pay tuition fee per semester to the uni, money for your books and for your living but when you can't, you can get support from the state ("Bafög") or apply for a scholarship...). There are a few private universities that aren't Ivy League; they are just private (and expensive). Ah, and I've seen that some of them have partner unis in GB. You may find 2 forms. The "Regelstudiengang" and the "Modellstudiengang" which are forms of which the studies are build. The university decides in which form their medicine studies are build. The second mentioned is newer and already has clinical aspects in the first years instead of after the "preclinical" part (Regelstudiengang - has a specific structure- you can google it). I am certain that both have their advantages and disadvantages so you have to decide what suits you the best. Also, it takes you at least 12 semester + your residency. And I don't know if some of the unis offer medicine in English but you can google it. I believe one uni does offer it but it is private (and you must speak German in the hospital). Possible ways to study medicine in English are often offered in Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Poland, Lithuania, Czech Republic or Slovakia. In Spain or Italy you can find a few universities that offer it in English. I would recommend you a podcast of 2 people who study medicine in Magdeburg in Germany in the "Regelstudiengang" but if you don't understand German, it may be useless to you (it is called "Küchenmedizin" by Lucas & Justin) I do not feel like explaining anymore😂 but I hope this helps a bit🥲

optometrists arent physicians and don't go to medical school. A physician who specializes in the eye is an ophthalmologist, which he has a video for.

@@Arc304 I am aware of that but in the past he has covered other non physician specialities such as nurse practitioner, physician assistant etc. And as optometrists and ophthalmologists have significantly different jobs and a dedicated video for each would be a good idea.
