Holy crap! I am 65, and beginning to wonder if I can get ten at 500 (without drugs). 1000 is wild and pretty much unimaginable to me. Humbling, but by God I’ll do these things! Thanks.

This is probably one of the best videos I've watched in a long time that wasn't just look at me look at me look at me. This was short, sweet and directly to the damn point. I don't have the time or the attention span to be watching 40 minutes of two guys stroking each others egos. I have to say I really appreciate you doing what you did and just getting to the point. I honestly do the first three accessory exercises already as a part of my accessory training. The last two are sort of a bonus because I don't always have those two machines available to me but when I do I ALWAYS use them. THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS WITH PEOPLE HOPEFULLY THEY'LL LISTEN !!!

Reading the comments I hear a lot of guys arguing about using straps and not using straps. I believe what this video is trying to show is for example taking 70% of your one rep max shrug and doing it for 10 to 20 reps. Deadlift competitions are one pull and then you go sit down. Strong man you're carrying stuff around all day so your forearms are not going to hold up. I would imagine this would be the same for me at 165 lb bw and putting in 368 on the bar and doing it for 20 relying on my grip strength. IN MY REALITY THAT AIN'T GOING TO HAPPEN. Which is why I believe he said we're training traps, or back, or lats not forearms. I'm absolutely not going to be doing say one arm dumbbell rows with 150 lb dumbbell and no figure 8 strap. I don't want to worry or be focused on or even thinking about my grip, I'm working my lats. When I'm pulling with everything I have I DO NOT WANT my grip to be the limiting factor over 30 reps while building my lats. Unless you have forearms like Popeye you're not going to get through over 100 reps of massive weight on forearm / grip strength. I guess to satisfy both parties what you could do is rely on grip strength until your lifts start to fail and then switch to a strap and finish up your sets.

Personally I'm using straps only when I have to. For example: with straps I can do deadlift 8 reps x 200kg, without straps I'll do only 5, because my grip will open after 5th rep. The guys on a clip are lifting much, much more, so I can't say a lot about their situation, its probably more complicated at that level. Under 200kg I never used a straps, but now I need it sometimes as I said.

I agree with everything you said, with one caveat! You said you straps, don’t train your grip!!!! Why?? Part of dead lifting as we know when you compete in Powerlifting it says you bench for show, and you dead lift for dough!!!! I believe that is stating that the dead lift is the deciding factor and the one exercise that you sometimes struggle with if you have one weak component, because there’s not as much equipment to use to aid your dead lift! Strongman allows wraps Powerlifting does not! So would it be a fair assessment that you’re speaking from strongman competition, and not powerlifting?
@chuckstevens2672
@chuckstevens2672 Жыл бұрын
He’s speaking in terms of strongman, not that they don’t have extremely good grip. I’m sure if you’re in powerlifting you could avoid using straps and train your grip in these movements as well. I’d say it’s a preference thing
@mauricejenkins2819
@mauricejenkins2819 Жыл бұрын
@@chuckstevens2672 totally agree! I guess I kind of follow and Ol Powerlifting ideology. From who I think was probably pound for pound the greatest power lifter of all time and that would be Ed Coan, he believed in the concept of training, every body, part where you would have no weak links! And strong men are very strong, however, if you compare them to the three power, lifting movements, there’s a big difference between the absolute best with strong men trying to compete against powerlifters! The vast majority of the extreme weights that you see in strongman would not occur without the wraps they use! Why because they’re weak link is their grip not all but a good majority. But at the end of the day, just like you said, it’s your personal preference good luck stay strong brother.

@@mauricejenkins2819 you as well. I just tried the shrugs without straps today with 315 and realized how weak my grip is from using straps when I deadlift lol. So for me it’ll be a trap and grip building exercise. Best of luck to you too brother
@magicjohnsins

He's telling you how to get the strongest deadlift, not the strongest grip. I assure you, strongmen have stronger grip than powerlifters, they just don't let their grip limit training on other exercises.
@mauricejenkins2819
@mauricejenkins2819 2 ай бұрын
@@magicjohnsins I assure you YOU ARE COMPLETELY WRONG!!!! Unless they’re doing other exercises for the grip using straps and I’ve tried to compare the two is the difference in night and day! There is many attempts have failed because of a lost grip! You might want to do a little bit more study
