My completely uneducated guess on how some structures can be built without modern machinery and requiring huges amounts of people is: slavery. Eg: the lagoon/coral structure (2). Awesome vid as always.

As a researcher of Nan Madol, I appreciated your perspective. One thing that is clear when you visit the site is that most of the corners of the structures are tilted upward suggesting an Asian influence. The primary theory is the founders of Nan Madol came from Taiwan and it was in use up to 400 years ago. Also I'm returning as I believe I have found a freshwater source within the ruins them selves.

if you're researching nan madol, pls, go make public that they _probably_ built it as living space for the citizens, to have the fertile islands for food production. and if u're really researching this on a professional level, why didn't u point out that not only the rich, but ALL citizens lived there, within strictly guard-separated parts for different classes of the ppl? nobles, clerics, traders & workers? that's quite commonly known. i somehow suddenly doubt that you're doing this as profession and think you just wrote "researcher" in terms of "being a curius tourist".

sailingmaster it really isn’t. And Tuts tomb wasn’t a game changer, the Rosetta Stone being deciphered was. Tuts tomb was just a big deal because it was the last tomb found intact, all the others had been found and excavated, gone through by robbers, or destroyed by the Egyptians themselves when opinion of certain pharaohs changed over time. But other than that, nah, it wasn’t anything that changed the way we approach archaeological research.

andrew amiet A. It’s not in a politically stable area B. It’s hard enough for archaeologists to get the grants and permits they do, and research takes time. It isn’t something that should just be thrown out to everyone before it’s properly analyzed. Wrong conclusions can cause major problems.

You should never excavate an entire site. There may be better techniques developed later. If you uncover it in it's entirity, you'll end up wreck8ng important finds, much like Heinrich Schliemann did with Troy. I'd say start of with 10-20%, then leave the rest to future generations.

Have anybody spotted the building basalt blocks (long hexagonal logs) are nearly the same for the site number 5 (beginning of the video) in Indonesia and site 2 (Nan Madol) ? I mean both structures were wisely constructed from such basalt logs, probably without cutting\prepearing them - the builders just took them from nearby old inactive volcano site there the logs were already formed and separated from each other. The crystallisation of molten lava can cause that it breaks up into separated blocks like these.

We greatly under estimate our ancestors, treat them with amused, patronising contempt. I mean, no cell phones, tablets, poor people. They were identical to us in many ways, ruled by the same appetites, emotions, passions,ambitions. I imagine in other ways though, they would be incomprehensible to us, their beliefs & ways of explaining the world around them. I think the dates for human achievements will be pushed way, way back in coming years. But then what the hell do I know?

We know a little bit about a few things from the unrecorded past but we really have no clue. We do know one thing, technologies come and go and come again so to say something would be 'impossible' when it comes to construction, would be incorrect. Let me give you an example: stone/wood carving. Go to an historic site that people have been going to for a couple hundred years and you'll note that early on names and dates are chiseled into the rock/wood and that the ones from the 18th and 19th centuries are very well done. But then note the same for early 20th century carvings and you see they've declined in skill until you get the to 60s and 70s and they're naught but scratches. It's not that the skills of wood and stone carving were lost, it's just that we don't use them anymore. But elsewhere in the world the skills are still there, still being used and one day they, too, might move away from it. So, some archeologist comes around 1000 years from now and digs up one of these places and notes the same thing. Will he think that society lost those carving skills? He might, if that's his only dig that dates to a particular time or there are very few. That's where we are today. Archaeology is just one of those things that takes time -lots of time - and lots of digs in as many different places as possible to try to string together what a place and time was like - but it's only local, not global and not even regional.
@benlucas3625
@benlucas3625 6 жыл бұрын
So what's your point? Certain skills and technologies have been lost through time as we can not replicate what the ancients did even with our technology. That is anywhere on the planet today, no one can. The video talks about a region and how the skills seem to be degrading in that one area over time. So instead of getting better and more advanced as was assumed, knowledge is lost, skills degrade and so modern isn't always better or more advanced. While sometimes knowledge and skills are preserved in other regions, sometimes they are completely lost in time.

@@bakonax7080 that means when you have a different body/spiritual/energy/power/super natural you are not bound in physical body. These myths are not false but false. In the bible they are named as Gentiles/Greeks. Who worshipped these gods all over the world they build magnificent structure. The mixture of these fallen angel/super natural beings/giants/mighty or fallen ones are called super man. Which you see alot marvels it is their agenda to promote these today to embrace the future. The bible warns us that this is gonna happen again. These fallen ones/angels will be released and build a new world kingdom and no magnificent structure no kingdom. They have to show these so people would be part in it. But the judgment is the wrath from God. If you read the bible in revelation. It talks about most of these and Daniel and Genesis 6.

I'm not surprised that modern humans would so vastly underestimate the capabilities of ancient people. There is a conceit among modern people that we are the epitome of knowledge and that we somehow do everything better and the ancient people were ignorant inferior savages. It reminds me of the young people today who can't do any math in their head because they are so dependent on calculators and are astounded that I can calculate what is 15% of $20 faster then they can enter it into their calculator app on their iPhone. Our ancient ancestors had to be smart and perhaps smarter than us because they had to survive with far less than we have today. At a time when a scratch or a common cold can kill, you have to be extremely smart and/or observant to survive. And by "you" I mean each and everyone because there were no public service messages, internet, books, or even schools except for the 1% - member of the upper class.

I'd say the most curious thing with these kind of things is that there's a good chance (because that's how bizarre humans are and were) that the people came up with ways to construct these things but not for things like the wheel. Because there was no need for it at the time. Take ancient china for example. amazing achievements in many areas, but compare their roads to those of the roman empire. China had the means to create a road system on par if not better, but in the end, they didn't, mainly cause there was no such neat. IIRC ancient greece had the means to built steam powered engines, yet neither they or the romans or anyone at the time got around to develop steam-powered vehicles. cause there was no need. And I'd not be surprised if the reason for at least some of the items in the vid was sheer, stubborn pragmatism. Like 'Yeah, we'll carve and carry these huge block of stone all the way to have a catalogue about what we can hunt in the area, but why the heck should we built a settlement?'

Assuming that ancient people were significantly less intelligent then the majority of people today seems rather presentist in logic. If we were to assume that they were equally intelligent but didn't have access to knowledge that we have today instead having different knowledge and understandings of the world thus different capabilities. These sites make a lot more sense. And it presents a conundrum of why and how those civilisations failed and declined. Which begs the question how will our civilisations fail ?

Catastrophe Theory . The ushering in of a great age happens ever 12500 years with the culmination of the Procession of the Equinox. We are 46 years off now. The sun micronovas, according to the newest theory, triggering the earths rotation to stop, the plates to unlock and spin atop our liquid mantle and up to 14000 foot tidal waves. When it is over, everything is under thousands of feet of newly formed concrete and a new ice age begins. This is the matrix.

It's important to remember that until the Industrial Revolution, basically all of the world's great buildings were related to religion. There was constant competition to create bigger, better and more awe inspiring structures to show the civilization's dedication to their faith. That resulted in thousands of men spending years, sometimes generations, to create these structures. When people believe that they are doing the bidding of their gods, they tend to put in a little more effort than normal. You also have to consider that many of the stones that ancient people used had natural seams that could be used to separate chunks of rock rather easily, it made it significantly easier to create one ten ton block than it was to create ten one ton blocks, and while there wasn't a ton of transportation inventions back then, they still had the ability to do things such as use logs as rollers and carry stones by boat.

You carbon date carbon based compounds mate, limestone is carbon based. I know the "stone" bit sounds like it might be silicium based or something, but the "lime" has a little organic ring to it. Anyway, dropping strong acid on it would form carbon dioxide bubbles you have my word. Take care.

@@Fielmur Yes... You're right, but, we do not carbon date sedimentary stone (limestone, etc...) as it is prone to error due to their organic compound (for example a shell compound in a limestone might appear older than it is really depending raining period and so on). Most sedimentary rocks such as sandstone, limestone, and shale are related to the radiometric time scale by bracketing them within time zones that are determined by dating appropriately selected surrounding igneous rocks or we use other radiometric dating method (please see link below). There's no mystery to the megaliths at Baalbek. a) They weren't lifted, they were carried up earthen ramps. The same way the temples of Raja Raja Chola were built. b) They were carried by logs inserted into holes along the sides, as the video clearly shows at 5:55. c) The stones left in the quarry could be explained a few ways: Bad omens at the site, a better stone was found, or the lead engineer deemed the stones measured incorrectly. d) You grossly underestimate what Roman technology was. When they wanted to build a thing, they built it. Regardless, the structure was built. The only mystery is how fucking awesome it would have looked in its heyday. Definitely one of those places worth setting time machine coordinates to.

@SnakesRaven
@SnakesRaven 7 жыл бұрын
@HitchensImmortal. Correct. - The stones are not part of the foundation but of a retaining wall, something the Greeks and Romans were very familiar with (for example when constructing amphitheaters) - They were placed by the Romans as is known by archeology - There are other constructions made by Greeks and Romans using heavy stones like these and no one seems to be baffled by those, yet these megaliths at Baalbek are somehow impossible to lift and therefore... woooooo.... mysterious unknown civilisation. Romans for example transported several Egyptian obelisks weighing over 500T from Egypt to Rome (Piazza di San Giovanni, Saint Peters Square...) but somehow they couldn't lift and transport an 800T stone just a mile away from it's quarry? Did aliens do it @Gary Rensburg? - People tend to have a selective and subjective mind when it comes to 'primitive tools'. Looking at all that pretty and majestic stuff the Romans and Greeks made, they seemed to be doing a pretty fine job with just their 'primitive tools'
