This year in Qatar is going to be different from all other World Cup tournaments in different ways. To start with, we already know that time and place are different. We’re used to the World Cup being played in the summer at the end of the European season, but this time around, the tournament will be held mid-season during fall.
Also, as you probably already know, this will be the first time the FIFA World Cup will be hosted by an Arab nation.
But guess what! When the tournament starts in November, time and place will be the new things you’re least concerned about. You know why? Because there are new rules being introduced in Qatar this year.
Did we just hear you ask what those rules are? Come along as we look at 5 new rules introduced to the 2022 World Cup that will turn the tides.

They should implement a rule to sanction players who fake injuries to waste time; especially when their team is winning and the game is approaching the final minutes. Sometimes it is clear in the slow replay that they are not being touch by the rival player.

FIFA have a female-only rule since 1995, and they not even think about it to remove it, and, the "Mens Rules" NEVER had a Mens only rule, currently they just push "not really Qualifying" Woman forward. I dont say Woman should not be able to be referee in Mens football, but i say there should be the best referees used whats available, and not give them a woman"bonus" or exclude Mens from Woman Football totally ...

I have always felt bad for the many world-class players that made their respective World Cup Teams yet never saw any playtime because of the very limited amount of substitutions. Now we may finally get to see these players. And many times, a player coming off the bench plays a significant role in the turning of the tide in a game. I think its about time for this change.

A rule that should be introduced is the one they use in rugby where a player can be sent off the field for 10 minutes. Currently, if a player clearly trips or pulls back an opponent an opponent who is starting a break-away, he will get a yellow card which is often no real disadvantage. That will stop those blatant fouls straight away. The same with feigning injury - send them off for 10 minutes and it stops straight away.

There was a discussion about a blue card, I've only seen it applied to indoor football and it carries a 2 minute 'sin bin' ban. I'm sure it's something that could be implemented. There is also a green card and black card which seem similar in that a player is dismissed from the pitch but can be replaced except with the black card where the player has already been shown a yellow card in which case the card is treated as a red card but with no following game suspension.

Such a system exists in field hockey as well. Green cards for 5 minutes, yellow card for 10 minutes and red cards for removal.

As a result of the 36 workers who died constructing stadiums, there has been significant reform of the kafala system, so in a way there are new safety rules. Edit: may be 37 workers, I cant remember the exact figure. Was either 36 or 37.

I always wondered since the implementation of goal-line technology that it would be so much more advantageous to have a web of sensors in the ball to never get ANY line-crossing call wrong but I didn't see how offsides would fare (without a whole body suit on players too). Looks like the tech failed in the Qatar vs Ecuador match today. The first goal was called back, but I didn't see any offsides in the video. Luckily, it didn't affect the outcome of the game, but it does affect the goals scored for and against later on in the rankings.

The offside rule should only apply to the feet in contact with the playing surface when the pass is made.

Foot on the line rule is the shittiest rule ever. It's only there to screw the goalkeeper's job, which is arguably, the hardest in the field, in the hardest instance.

It's one foot. Before this change, they had to have both feet on the line. Taking that into consideration, the penalty is a punishment for unsportsmanlike behavior in the box. Why do goalkeepers have to have any kind of advantage if its team is the one being punished?

Substitutions can only be made 3 times. If you subbed on 4 players on 3 different occasions, you cannot substitute the remaining 5th one. All the 5 players must come on on just 3 occasions. In simple words, the play will be temporarily stopped just 3 times.

3 windows in the run of play - the idea is that you can only interrupt the game 3 times (just like before) to make a substitution - hence, you can make as many subs as you want at half time (up to 5 max) and not be charged a "window"

They should do what they do in rugby. Whenever there is a stoppage, for injury or anything else, stop the clock. This will stop players from feigning injury to waste time. The clock should be stopped when teams make substitutions too, as these are often used to waste time. Removing injury time or added on time takes it out of the hands of the referee. This means he can't be accused of giving a team too much time (as often happened with "Fergie time"). When time runs out, a horn sounds, and the game is over.

When I started watching the game, they allowed only 2 subs. Then it increased to 3. Now, they want to increase to 5. It is getting ridiculous.

youre unlikely to see over 80f in qatar for this WC. many worlds cups previous such as mexico, spain and the US had MUCH higher temps. so.....do more research.

There's common advice in football: Play until the whistle. That is, even if you know a foul (or handball) happened, keep playing until the ref blows the whistle. There's a real rule in football: The referee may allow play to continue immediately after a foul (or handball) if it appears to be in the advantage of the other team. Its called "playing the advantage" and is a fairly common occurrence. So, to answer your good question, Yes, if the wronged team can score -- or even appear to be about to score -- and the ref has not yet blown the whistle, the ref allows the play to continue (and possibly a goal scored).

imo they should only do golden goal rule if the first 11 penalties are at a tie . but that rule is stupid . cause player would pass out if they played a 120 min game . and had to continue playing until a goal who knows how long that could take

Football is being dehumanised, relevant to match officials. Not satisfied with the technology that provides offsides by the width of a human hair, we are now encouraging technology to make the decision and advise the Assistant Referee. Next, we will be doing away with match officials altogether. Decisions will be made by computerised technology. Be interesting to see how red/yellow cards are handed out when that happens. The football world is going crazy. Who is behind this drive? Betting companies, who, incidentally, are the majority of football sponsors today.

Apparently some people don't like the idea of female referees in the Mens' World Cup. Something to do with them thinking that the rule exists simply because of gender and not skill even though there are already female referees in the Premier League and Champions League.

Whats next then martha playing for the brazilian mens team next to neymar🤦 The women who will be referee/assisting this will be there biggest test to come the amount of pressure & social aspect in life that they are risking is huge. I dont know how this will pan out as to the confrontation, we are used to seeing players argue at bad calls and almost trying to hit refs knowing a women trying to control a heated/pressured game will be hard. There are going to be alot of bad calls, card & var, this wc 2022 is going to be shit.
