If you’re stopped at a gas station with a keyed bike, you’re not pulling the key out of your pocket, you’re pulling it out of the ignition and moving it down 6 inches to the gas cap…

Hey, thanks for the great video, I’m considering the XR as my next bike having had an older model as a loaner for a couple of weeks. The new one seems much improved. On the subject of cruise control, I live in Scotland where temperatures drop sharply in winter (single digit Celsius is here already) and I have never had an issue with cruise control with any of my past (or current) bikes, and I’ve had 3 from BMW, a 1200GS Triple Black, a 1200RT Special Anniversary Edition, and a K1600GT Sport. The cruise control function is the same on all of them, so yours should be fine. Looking forward to your next video, keep it shiny side up !

Thanks for the video. Good points. I don’t have the TFT or the quick shifter on my 750gs. I bought it used so I couldn’t get it on my bike. Would I miss them? no not at all. Do I want them? Yes definitely. I am very grateful that I have the cruise control and heated grip. One thing about the heated grip that’s wonders me, actually it’s not about the heated grip, it’s more about the users manual. Due to the users manual (at least the Swedish one for the 750gs) the first level is 25% the second is 50% and the third is 75%. Why isn’t the third mode 100%? Is there a fourth level ? Or if 75% is “full” effect what would 100% be? I totally understand that’s the percent is totally irrelevant. It could just as well be 28, 65 and 98% of what the heating elements in the grips are capable of. The 25, 50, 75% is too give the user a picture off the different levels . But in my head full effect should be 100% other wise I get a picture of that’s there’s should be a fourth level. It had been more correct to write lo, medium and high. This is of course not a problem an have nothing to do with the heated grips but I think it’s an interesting way of how they choose to describe it in the users manual 😊
@ThrottleBackRubberDown
@ThrottleBackRubberDown 3 жыл бұрын
You are, 100% correct, haha..old man joke there. But seriously, that is a great observation and I totally agree with you. I am a huge fan of BMW's heated grips. I feel they are better than both the ones on my previous Triumph and Ducati.

Hi thanks for your reviews on the 1000XR, its a bike I'm considering. Whilst I need to get a test ride sorted, I do have a question. Can this bike cruise happily at about 60mph, approx 5-6000 rpms, without it "screaming' at you to go faster?
@ThrottleBackRubberDown
@ThrottleBackRubberDown 3 жыл бұрын
I never rode the first gen. but my understanding is that it was a bit "angrier" all the time. This bike is perfectly happy to cruise 4500-5500 or higher. You can put it in 5th at 60 and loaf along no issues and have plenty of grunt if you want. My favorite feature of this bike is the engine. If you want to rip it is happy to do so but it can be ridden easy or moderately without issue.

I just put my frist 1200 miles on a new 2019 s1000XR. I read alot abou the "angry" nature or it screaming to go faster. It is a fast bike, when you want to, it will go as fast as you ever want to go, but it will cruise at 4K to 6K and be casual if you want it to. it starts to wake up after 5k and will get a little racey sounding but it has no problem casually riding the back roads. I like that it can be a casual bike if you want it to and a crazy fast and amazing handling bike when you want it to. I have heard the 2020 is even better at this.
@koromuri97
@koromuri97 3 жыл бұрын
@@masbaoutdoors5353 Thank,you for your comment, it would seem the riders testing these bikes (that we read about) were looking for the "fast" nature of the bike, rather than the casual ride. For sure we want the option to scare ourselves silly, but in between those occasions riding sedately enjoying the ride, is just, if not more important.

The range of the keyless fob used for the S1000XR is ridiculously low, about 1 m = 3 feet. This is safe enough for me. The comfort of a keyless system is immense, therefore no keys for me. Special metal lined pouches are available to block the radio signal of the keyless fob ... for peace of mind of the nervously inclined owners.
@HippoDrones

@@marcos.1771 I still don't see it as a problem that needed solving, a key in the ignition is a good reminder that you have your key! :D Saying that, the amount of times I have got ready to ride, and gloves on to remember my key was in my pocket! :D

@marcos.1771 3 жыл бұрын
@@HippoDrones I have set my S1000XR to automatically turn on the anti theft alarm as soon as I turn off the ignition. The advantages of a keyless fob over a physical key are manifold. The button on the S1000XR used to turn the ignition on and off is also used to lock the handlebar. BTW, that keyless fob does have a physical key attached to it, but this is only necessary to unlock the seat and unlock/lock the navigation device, otherwise that fob never leaves my secret pocket.
