What is your recommendation for beginning with the worms, Where is the best place to acquire them?
@FisherFamilyFarm2 ай бұрын
We purchased ours off of Amazon. Make sure you have your worm box ready to go before you purchase your worms.

Thanks for the video! Interesting, at the moment I do worm composting but I don't typically add peppers/tomatoes because they are nightshade family and I was under the impression that the worms wouldn't eat them. Perhaps I should try adding them if yours eat them?

Hot peppers may cause harm to works. Regular bell peppers have always been been fine to my worms.

Very motivating. On the hot pile could I add chicken and Turkey manure?
@FisherFamilyFarm2 ай бұрын
Yes, that is a great way of getting more nitrogen in your compost.

@@throttle4593the more nitrogen the hotter the pile gets. Chicken and pidgione poop are great, the best you can get, especially pidgione (if available), that's why the Romans had dove coats, very saught after still.

Isn’t that a little deep for shallow plant roots like lettuce or garlic or such?
@FisherFamilyFarm2 ай бұрын
We want it that deep that way it does not fight with the root systems for the first season. This will bring microbes and worms into the area which will help improve the entire bed. If the food is left to shallow, and it becomes anaerobic, it will mess up the root systems for the first season until they are done then they will be amazing the second season

What brand of worm house is that? Also, what things can a person compost besides egg shells, produce scraps, and plant matter? Can you compost bread? Or is it best to stay away from composting any processed foods? Do you do any chicken poop composting?

I will post it in the description of the video. Yes, you can virtually compost anything. You just have to be careful of the critters that you will attract. Some people will say you cannot compost some types of products however, as long as they our food grade products, I feel comfortable putting them in my compost piles. You have to do what you feel comfortable with in your gardens. Yes, we do lots of chicken compost. I have about 20 chickens on the farm. I just haven’t done a video on them yet. Would you like me to do that?

@@FisherFamilyFarm Super helpful! Thank you! YES!! Chicken compost, please! I have no idea how to make it “safe”, or can I just use it straight from the coop?

Hi, it’s My First time doing compost, I mixed grass clipping and dry leaves plus water. For a week the pile started to heat up and I turned them 2-3 times within 10 days. But after 3 weeks it turns cold, is this normal ? Thanks
@FisherFamilyFarm14 күн бұрын
No, you might need to add more carbon would be my guess. How much carbon to nitrogen ratio have you been doing? Is the pile very wet?
@nilolee242614 күн бұрын
@@FisherFamilyFarm the pile is moist ,not very wet. I’m not sure about the ratio,probably 1:1 ,so if I add more brown like cardboard or shredded paper,if would start to heat up? Or what’s your suggestion? Thanks in advance Also, there were some worms in the pile before I add them, but now I don’t see them anymore
@Paytonslife20228 күн бұрын
Is it stinking? I would maybe consider getting a compost starter. I would probably add more carbon so yes cardboard or paper would potentially work.
@nilolee24267 күн бұрын
@@Paytonslife2022 it’s doesn’t stink, just cold… I’m gonna try to put more carbon

I get some of my best exercise flipping compost. I refuse to pay for a gym membership.
@FisherFamilyFarm2 ай бұрын
Absolutely! All you need is about three or four compost piles that you’re working every couple days each and you could develop some huge muscles :-) or just keep you in shape
