@@rochellecorlett8263 I am still having problems 14 months letter. My Dentist didn't explain anything. I had no clue. She gave me 2 options. I thought I was getting healing immediate dentures. It was and still is a nightmare. My cost was $14,000 or option 2 was $11,000. I would fill this page with all that happened.

I had to have 13 extractions. Most of them were teeth that were broken of at the gum. 5 of them were the top front teeth that were jagged. My dentist was very up front with me and made sure that I knew the pros and cons to immediate dentures and permanent dentures. I have chosen to heal completely before getting my permanent dentures. I am getting the top denture and a partial for my bottom. It's hard to have the patience but it is the best choice.

He makes a very important point. Don't be shy. 1) You must discuss your expectations in advance, as to whether you want perfectly looking dentures vs. copying old imperfections. 2) HUGE leap of faith having all your teeth pulled, then assuming your immed or regular dentures are gonna fit. 3. Buyer beware! Getting suckered into a "point of no return" by a very friendly-sounding dentist, who may eventually get sick of making adjustments, is not fun! BINGO!! that's me...fighting with the owner of the dental practice because nothing was discussed up front, with the guy featured in the friendly TV commercial.

I just had 27 teeth pulled. I’m day 5 now, and I game one super sore spot in the front bottom, otherwise I don’t have ANY pain post op, I was struggling with teeth pain for years, almost like getting teeth pulled feels better than a toothache, or wisdom teeth working themselves outs pain. I’m STOKED on the results so far.

thank you very much for explaining the process here. I have had an upper plate for more years than I can remember and am on my 3rd one. I have had it maybe 10 years and it is still perfect. I wear no adhesive at all. I also have a partial on the lower in the front and still have some molars that it connects too. I was fortunate that my dentist always has done a great job making the teeth look right, pretty and fit well. The first one I got freaked me out because it had too much product that made my lip stick out. When I went in the next day he took off all the excess and all was great. It is very traumatic for people and it helps if your dentist is aware and thoughtful when helping a patient adjusting to wearing a denture. Kindness and extra care go a long way to making a person needing a denture feel normal. I plan on keeping the teeth I have left so I won't need a lower plate. I understand they can be hard to deal with. I certainly can't afford implants

If I get tooth extracted rather than a root canal and 3 unit bridge, tooth #15 will the denture feel comfortable?
@annestep6741
@annestep6741 Жыл бұрын
@@jojosjoyfuljourney I think the goal of any good dentist is to keep what teeth you have rather than pulling them. No treatment is cheap. I would have the root canal and bridge. Bridges are permanent so there is nothing to feel uncomfortable. I may not be understanding your question but I am assuming you will only need a bridge if you have the tooth pulled? I have a cantilever bridge on my right lower. It attaches to two molars and the last molar is fake. I have had no issues at all with this for many years now. It is just like having all 3 teeth. Having a tooth pulled may be cheaper than a root canal but I don't think it is the best option since the goal should be to keep all your teeth intact until you die. The other option in my opinion would work too but not the best option unless the tooth is really damaged.

@angelaschaefer5883 The Netherlands 🇳🇱 is a social small country with good security measurements for poor people to benefit a good life. Also we are still number 5 of the richest countries in the world. We have affordable prices for Healthcare, living, food etc. Refugees everyone wants to come to Holland or Scandinavia countries like Sweden 🇸🇪. Germany 🇩🇪 our neighbors a big economic major country supports our economy growth by joining doing business import export. 40% are Arabic citizens of Türkei to work there or in Europe. If you need a Medtronic pacemaker or insuline pump... I work there ...you get it free from the low cost basic insurance about 180 euros a month paid. I got snap on dentures implants with a bar and luxury ceramic teeth for 600 euros . 11 .000 euro's was paid by the insurance. Teeth removal extractions by dentist is nocost .Noone wants normal dentures especially under because it falls out your mouth.

I'm getting my immediate dentures next week. I'm so anxious. Our teeth are not just tools, they are part of how we are perceived by the world. I won't 'just' be adjusting physically, but my self-identification will be adjusting too. I know that it will be a long process. I expect pain. But preparing with realistic expectations will help me a lot. My dentist didn't explain anything. Just did an impression, then told me I would have all my teeth pulled & go home wearing the dentures. I never heard of this method. I think that she should have told me more or given me some literature to take home with me. Thank God for UTube. I really appreciate that you made this video. I'm making a list of helpful videos to recommend. You will be at the top. Thanks.

That is the way I got my denture put in. It was a two step process where I had some teeth pulled and a partial that I wore for a while.. They made the denture and when I had the other teeth pulled they put on the denture and I went home with it in. What may happen is that there will be too much material on the gum portion of the denture that the dentist will file away so that it looks natural in your mouth. So don't freak out if it sticks out too far of you think you look weird. It can be fixed so you will be happy. You should have an appt with your dentist the day after you get your denture

@@annestep6741 she didn't see me for 2 weeks. She did adjustments, & I see her again in a week & a half. My bottom denture comes out so easily it's embarrassing, & the top is hard to remove. My mouth is still sore, which the pain level varies with everyone. I still need to take something for pain most nights. I despair of the top & bottom lining up enough to chew real food. But I guess it's all a process. I hear that it takes 3 to 6 months for most people to adjust to their dentures. As the adventure progresses... BUT I am happy that my smile looks great. That's a relief at least.

Thanks for the info Doc, I have Hyperdontia where my third set of teeth basically destroyed my second set and themselves and I am looking into getting them replaced with dentures, My dentist also advised me that it would be wise to run around without teeth for a week or two depending on how my jaw heals and the sockets close so that my Dentures would fit nicely and not fall out. I would like to see a follow up video on permanent dentures that get bolted in, I would like to have that as the end goal but would want to know the pros and cons about having teeth put into your head with a torque wrench. :)

Great information and advice! I wish I saw this before I got them. I totally didn't know what to expect. First time I heard what I had was a "temporary" denture was upon my 2nd lining. A question please doc... I am homebound, but handy. I cannot get to a dentist. My dentures are holding up well enough but they are a bit stained I think. How can I brighten them up myself at home? How is it done by a dentist? As I said I am very handy! I was a cosmetologist for 37 years and can work well with tools, including tools for acrylic nails - which look VERY similar to many denture tools. Any thoughts would be GREATLY appreciated as I want to start making great youtube videos, as you do! But about makeup, hair, crochet etc. Thank you in advance!!

Hi, to clean your denture at home I usually recommend to first brush them with dish soap and a denture brush or a soft toothbrush. Then soak them in denture cleaner. A couple of good denture cleaners are Kleenite and ValClean. You can order both on Amazon I think. If you don't want to use commercially made denture cleaners, you can soak the denture in a mix of half vinegar/half water for 15 minutes, or dilute 1 teaspoon of bleach in a glass of water and soak the denture for 5 minutes, then rinse it off. Thank you very much for watching and good luck with your KZfaq channel !

Thank you so much. I'm going thru it bad right now and don't know what to do. I smiled all the time, not so much at all. My confidence and mental state have been super jilted and knowing how much implants are but how programmed I have been to fear dentures have really made it impossible to do much but just feel stuck and almost ignore the problem, which feels ignorant and like I've given up on myself... But after watching your video, you just made me not feel so alienated and alone. Thank you so much. I never EVER comment on people's videos, I rarely even hit like buttons.... But I did both here because you really hit a nerve (no pun intended) and it was like I was having a conversation with a good friend that wasn't judgemental, and was very informative and sincere. Thank you for the explanation, it has been helpful. I have one misshaped front tooth which is now protruding, and the other is loose from a fracture awhile ago which is now infected. Unfortunately the eye tooth next to it is now loose too. I have opted to pull the two front teeth and replace them with an immediate denture. I’m thinking to save time and money to pull the third one too. The problem is the gap has widened between my teeth due to shifting and I’m worried I’ll be left with these overly big front teeth which would look ridiculous. My dentist has assured me that they won’t, but without knowing what they will look like first hand, that might not be my best option. I have bone loss too with most of my teeth, and now regular deep cleaning to try and bring my gums back to health. Should I look at implants or a bridge as another alternative?

I got a partial plate on the bottom (6 teeth stayed in including a wisdom tooth). The top teeth were pulled but at two different times. Once I got the top denture in - they look really good and I could bite chew etc for the first few days. Then it became harder to chew especially on the left side. Seem like there was more bulk on this side. I explained it several times on different visit but he did not understand. Now 6 mos later it is still no difference - have not been back. What's the use. He just looks at me like I'm mentally inclined. The adhesive I use does keep them in but it is so hard to get it out. I've asked about maybe an easy way to remove the adhesive. So I seldom use it. The suction does work pretty good on small portions of food but the meat if it' chewed on the right side first the teeth will loosen. I paid $11,000 for mine and I wish every day I still had my old raggy teeth. At least I could eat what I wanted - no pain - and maybe not as pretty but others saw them more than I!! :) I wish I had seen this last summer. Now let me go to my special place and cry. When you are a widow in your 70's and on a fixed income I think some people will squeeze the life out of you. Oh! He did say if these did not work we could do the implants. That is what I ask for first!!!

It will stay in place better than a full denture and when you eventually lose the teeth, it can be converted into a full denture. Hi, I usually go over color and tooth shape choices at the bite registration visit. I usually recommend acrylic teeth because they stay attached to the denture base better than porcelain teeth. At the wax try in visit, I have the patient take a look to see if they like the color and shape of the teeth, and I check to make sure they are in the correct position. Sometimes the bite can be off and it's easy to correct it at the wax try in stage.

Hi, if you are missing all of your teeth your options are, 1. regular dentures 2. snap in dentures on dental implants (a lot of times people will get a regular upper denture, then 2 implants on the lower jaw and a snap in denture for the lower) 3. permanent implant teeth(commonly called "All-on -4" ) usually 4 or more implants per jaw with a bridge attached to the implants. You can't remove the bridge at home.

A dentist I went to who seems to be state of the art plans to make immediate dentures that I not take out at all the first 24 hours (to help stop the bleeding?) and then they are to be relined a few months later. That is included in cost. They have an in house lab and a gal that supposedly is really good at customizing to begin with. Depending on how much the bone shrinks, can they reline sufficiently to make sure the immediately dentures fit comfortably later on? Also I am concerned about having the entire roof of my mouth covered (and the gag reflex). I didn't realize there are taste buds there. I'm told dentures reduce your ability to taste and that can turn off the brain to think you're not hungry. I'm told I have a "deep bite" where the top teeth come down almost to the bottom of my bottom teeth and they will correct that with dentures. But wouldn't that cause a TMJ problem in realigning my jaw? Dentist uses conscious sedation and says entire procedure will take at least 2 hrs. Both my MD and cardiologist think that's too long to be under sedation. Not sure what to do!
@VeryNiceSmileDental
@VeryNiceSmileDental 4 ай бұрын
Hi. I usually tell people to leave the immediate denture in for the first 24 hours too. It works like a bandage to help with the bleeding, but also if you remove it too soon, the gums will swell up and you will need to leave it out for a few days for the swelling to go down. Whether or not the reline will be successful will depend on the shape of your jawbone afterwards. I tend not to do much alveoloplasty (trimming down the jawbone) after the extractions. The denture can usually be adjusted to not trigger your gag reflex. It will affect your sense of taste to an extent. To avoid covering the roof of your mouth you would need either snap in overdentures with implants or an "all on 4" type of fixed prosthesis. They will probably be able to correct the deep bite without affecting your TMJ. Definitely have your dentist consult with your MD and your cardiologist to determine the best course of treatment for your situation. I hope I answered your questions. Let me know.

Hi, I'm not sure what you mean by "bone alignment". When you have teeth removed before getting dentures some dentists will do an "alveoloplasty" which means they will trim down the jawbone after the teeth are removed (it's done at the same time the teeth are removed).

Hi Doctor, as a patient I can’t find any information regarding the backflaw prevention requirements for saliva ejectors, is it required in USA? In Louisiana in particular? How do I see if my doctor has it? Of course I can ask directly, just not sure if the hygienist would say the truth, does a doctor usually know such things or only a hygienist? Thank you!
@VeryNiceSmileDental
@VeryNiceSmileDental Жыл бұрын
Hi, I don't know the laws in Louisiana but generally dental offices in USA have to follow the CDC guidelines for infection control. Here is what they say about backflow prevention for saliva ejectors, www.cdc.gov/oralhealth/infectioncontrol/faqs/saliva.html How does backflow occur when using a saliva ejector? Backflow occurs when previously suctioned fluids present in the suction tubing flow back into the patient’s mouth. Backflow can occur when: There is pressure in a patient’s mouth (a result of closing their lips and forming a seal around the tip of the ejector) that is less than in the saliva ejector (similar to how liquid flows back into a cup after drinking through a straw). The suction tubing attached to the ejector is positioned above the patient’s mouth. A saliva ejector is used at the same time as other evacuation (high-volume) equipment. Although no adverse health effects associated with the saliva ejector have been reported, dental health care personnel (DHCP) should be aware that backflow could occur when they use a saliva ejector. DHCP should not advise patients to close their lips tightly around the tip of the saliva ejector to evacuate oral fluids. DHCP should contact the manufacturer of the dental unit to review proper use and maintenance procedures, including appropriate cleaning and disinfection methods.

The dentist I saw two years ago refused to pull my teeth because I wouldn’t like having dentures. Not sure how he knew that since I asked for my teeth to be removed and dentures. He discussed saving my teeth and then proceeded to mansplain the preferred treatment was for the placement of upper and lower permanent bridges. That there would need to be root canals on 8 teeth for top and bottom. And I lost it. In case you don’t know, root canals remove the inside of the tooth, killing it. I asked him how killing 8 teeth is going to save my teeth when I would have 7 teeth left that would be ‘alive’. I told him he was an idiot and I left. I haven’t been back.

Hi, one of the things I look at is how much "attached gingiva" a denture patient has in their mouth. Attached gingiva is much tougher and can withstand having a denture rest on it. If a person has very little attached gingiva for the denture to sit on, implants are a better option, though ideally you want to have attached gingiva around the implants too.

I have had the temporary denture 7 years and never relined and able to eat everything including almonds, use much denture adhesive and need a permanent denture at this time. I have only a handful of solid standing teeth remaining in bottom front and have been to several dentists - spent much money consults Ct scans and last one said not eligible for implants as hip bone is needed for grafting and I will never do that at 64 years old with osteoporosis. Daughter getting married in four months and need help asap. When I talk, people can see broken off teeth front bottom side and I’m fearful to remove the remains (lost during two years of Covid) without having replacement. Latest was told no implant eligibility so what should I do ? I’m fearful to remove remaining five strong bottom teeth - should I get a temporary partial ? This is urgent. I’m also seeing yet another dentist for opinion next month. My entire bottom face is droopy wrinkly sagging from jaw bone loss both sides it’s horrible and will dentures on bottom help this problem? Also no relationship in many years as I don’t want a guy to know I have dentures it’s messed up !! If you would provide any advice, I would greatly appreciate !! Thank you! If your lower teeth are failing, you have some options that don't involve dental implants. Do you have any type of lower partial denture currently? If so, sometimes missing teeth can be added to the partial. It may not stay in well, but it would be a quick fix, usually a day or two at the lab. Other options would be a lower immediate denture, downside is that a lower denture doesn't stay in place as well as an upper full denture. Another option is a type of partial denture called a Cu-sil partial denture (also known as a Virginia partial denture). It looks like a lower full denture, but it has holes in it through which teeth can fit through. If you have one strong tooth on both sides of your lower jaw (ideal is having both lower canines) a cu-sil partial can be made and the canines will hold it in place. If in the future you lose one or all of the remaining teeth, the partial can be easily converted into a full denture. Here are three videos I made that give more detail, kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jb6dZ9VpyJyacac.html, kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qp-ei8-F1sy1pIU.html, kzfaq.info/get/bejne/r5qWfZCetZOUemQ.html. Last option would be an all acrylic temporary partial replacing the missing teeth. It would be mostly for looks, people usually can't eat well with it.

There are two types of relines, chairside and lab relines. A chairside reline can be down while you wait in the dental office. A lab reline needs to be sent out to the lab. My lab can usually do it overnight if I give them a heads up ahead of time. Lab relines have a better finish and they hold up longer than chairside relines (the material used is different). If your immediate denture is 7 years old, I would probably recommend a chairside reline or your existing denture, and a new upper denture.

The surprise of having to pay an extra $2000. is not a fun surprise. Part of the reason I made this video was because a lot of viewers told me the same thing happened to them. Thank you very much for watching!

I am going in for a full extraction soon, i was told i would walk out with a set of teeth in my mouth. Not sure how that all works but it seems common.

Sounds like you are getting a set of immediate dentures, or if you are getting dental implants, it would be an "all of 4" type of procedure. Will the teeth be removable?
@UnderTheBigOak

@@VeryNiceSmileDental It sounds like i would be wearing the full set of 'temporary' dentures for up to 6 months or longer to determine the bone loss, etc before the snap in's would be done (which is what i want). I go in for a type of ct scan tomorrow to determine how much bone i got to work with already. Maybe the titanium posts will be put in at the time of extraction, unknown yet!

I just got my permanent dentures after having healing dentures and I still cant chew much food unless its very soft. Do you have any suggestions to how to learn to eat more solid foods. Thank you
@VeryNiceSmileDental
@VeryNiceSmileDental Жыл бұрын
Hi, I usually tell people to start by eating really soft foods like scrambled eggs and small bites at first. With dentures, you also need to chew on both sides of your mouth at once to keep the denture in place. Then you try a little bit tougher foods. Keep in mind that you are relearning how to eat with dentures. It will take some time to get good at it.

My dentist says that he can't save the one upper or lower front 5 that I have left. He said that because I have an under-bite that it will be even harder for me to get a good fit at the bottom. Can you still get implants years down the line, I mean will the bone have disappeared? 🤔
@VeryNiceSmileDental
@VeryNiceSmileDental Жыл бұрын
Hi, sorry to hear about your situation. Once you have the teeth removed, the bone will shrink over time. More so initially, then the rate of shrinkage will decrease. I talk about this in more depth in this video, kzfaq.info/get/bejne/i9ufrb2Qp5zapXU.html It may still be possible to have implants placed in the future. I have a patient who wore a full upper denture and a lower partial denture (replacing her back teeth) for 40 years before she decided to get implants. The surgeon needed to perform some bone grafting before placing the implants, but they were successful. The patient ended up with 7 implants on top and 5 implants on the bottom. She still has her lower front 6 teeth (canine to canine). When you do have your teeth removed, try to avoid having alveoloplasty (jawbone removal). Some dentists remove more bone than is necessary.

How strong are denture teeth held in. If you have ocd and you push on backs of front teeth with your bottom teeth, will you just push the teeth out of your denture . If so, is there any way to make them more secure
@VeryNiceSmileDental
@VeryNiceSmileDental 3 ай бұрын
Hi, denture teeth are made out of the same material as the pink denture acrylic. The teeth are well bonded to the gums. People usually break them in half before knocking them loose from a denture.

My lower jaw has Tori inside and outer. I now have 2 teeth left in back side and wearing a bridge to chew. What happens when I loose them?
@VeryNiceSmileDental
@VeryNiceSmileDental 10 ай бұрын
Hi, once you lose all your teeth in a jaw, your options are dental implants or a denture. The tori may or may not need to be removed depending on how big they are and what replacement option you choose.

Thank you for your information it's very helpful 😊, only I wish I had watched it before I had my teeth done. 😬 I've had a rough time, I'm still having a rough time. But it's only been 2 months and I had a plate popped straight in. My dentist never informed me, how I would be affected. Taste is a big one. Kissing my loved one. And so much more, I'm just hoping it improves, Mine feel that bad I don't know if I can wait for 6 months for a reline. I don't want to deter anyone from getting this done. But please look into your options. Hopefully one day in Australia they will improve the prices of dental care. I will be saving hard and will try to get permanent dentures asap. 30.000 might cover the bottom ones 🤔? Kids Extra extra care for that gold in your mouth.

Hi, sorry to hear about your situation. Talk to your dentist, a soft reline might be helpful for you during the healing process. I don't the cost of permanent teeth on dental implants in Australia, but here in the NY metro area it's around $25k to $35k US per arch. Snap-in dentures are usually about half that cost. Thank you very much for watching!

Immediate dentures are a solution when you don't wanna go without teeth while healing before getting a permanent set. Dentists may have plans that will include both including adjustments and relines.

Yes. The point is to discuss it with the dentist before you start. Many people don't what treatment they are getting or what's included in the cost.

I had immediate put straight in top and bottoms . Top was done a year ago and they are awesome but these bottom ones are fresh as just had all bottom teeth done in June 2023 but soft line of them made them worse . So I am not wearing them I can’t cause I developed blisters plus can eat with bottoms in as I bite my jaw . So come July 31 st hopefully we get this lined out . I am lucky my insurance covers all . But I will pay out of pocket to get a bottom set that will fit if needed .

When I got my top temporary denture I loved the look, a few months later the dentist brought out the permanent, it didn't look anything like my teeth so I politely told him I wasn't happy with it and asked if I could change some things, he started scolding me, handed it to me and said no charge, don't come back. He was pissed and the nurses and assistants were obviously embarrassed. I wanted to smack the jerk. He then told my wife, 10 year old son and my brother in law they weren't welcome back. My wife's parents had been with his father and with him and taken their kids to him for years.

@@VeryNiceSmileDental I am still wearing my temporary, they're still great after 8 years, never had a problem with them. Now I'm starting on the bottom, had a tooth pulled today and my dentist made me another temporary bridge after my other broke the other day, my real bridge will be ready next week, I just didn't want to go around at work with missing teeth, he said he wouldn't make me one until I had the tooth pulled, an old tooth crumbled on one I had a root canal on 20 years ago. I'm think I'm going to get all on four on the bottom next year, just hard giving up my last 6 real teeth🤣

Hi, don't remove anything until you get an exam and treatment plan. Are your upper teeth that bad that they need to be removed?
All on 4 or Snap in dentures? Some points to consider.
